Prince William's unexpected response after wife Kate is called 'beautiful'
The Prince and Princess of Wales charmed onlookers during their recent visit to Scotland for the official naming ceremony of the HMS Glasgow.
While Princess Kate took centre stage as the ship's sponsor, there was one light-hearted exchange with a well-wisher that went viral on social media.
The royal couple were greeting members of the public who had gathered to witness the special occasion on Thursday.
As they passed by, a fan called out to Kate, "You're beautiful!" before quickly adding: "You too, William!" This prompted smiles and laughter from both Kate and William.
The Prince of Wales responded: "You don't have to say that. Don't worry."
Following his reply, Prince William affectionately placed a hand on his wife's arm as they continued on their way.
Kate, 43, looked elegant in a navy blue outfit by Suzannah London and a matching hat as she carried out her duties.
Earlier on, the royal delivered a short speech and released a bottle of whisky against the hull of the HMS Glasgow, a time-honoured tradition.
Kate pressed a button triggering an arm holding the single malt which crashed into the grey stealth-like vessel, the first of eight Type 26 anti-submarine frigates to be built in Glasgow.

The couple also had a tour of the vessel, which is being fitted out, and then met BAE staff, apprentices and members of HMS Glasgow's company in a nearby training centre.
Prince William and Kate competed to complete a pipe puzzle connecting pieces of copper piping – a secondary school Stem activity – under the watchful eye of BAE apprentices.
The Prince later complained he did not realise it was a competition, saying to laughter from Kate, "It's a race? – That's fine, then I'll race," but when his wife was declared the winner, William replied her effort was "wobbly".

James Cameron has been burined deep in the world of Pandora for years, but he's announced what his next film project will be. The filmmaker behind Aliens , Titanic , and Avatar announced on Facebook that his next movie after Avatar: Fire and Ash will be an adaptation of The Devils . The Devil's is a brand-new fantasy novel by British author Joe Abercrombie, and Cameron is producing and co-writing the script with Abercrombie himself. The director said: 'I've loved Joe's writing for years, cherishing each new read, throughout the epic cycle of the First Law books, especially Best Served Cold (LOVE IT!), and the Age of Madness trilogy. 'But the freshness of the world and the characters in The Devils finally got me off my butt to buy one of his books and partner with him to bring it to the screen. 'I can't wait to dig into this as I wind down on Avatar: Fire and Ash. It will be a joyful new challenge for me to bring these indelible characters to life.' Abercrombie has built a loyal following in the grimdark fantasy space. His First Law series redefined the genre with its morally compromised antiheroes and sharp, self-aware writing. But, The Devils , which just hit shelves last month via Tor, kicks off a new trilogy, one with a very different premise. Set in a warped version of our own world, The Devils imagines a Europe crawling with unspeakable monsters and under siege by flesh-eating elves. The story centers on Brother Diaz, a weary soldier-priest tasked with assembling a team of both men and monsters to fight back the rising tide of horror. Abercrombie seems just as excited about the team-up, saying: 'I can't think of anyone better to bring this weird and wonderful monster of a book to the screen,' he said in a statement. This isn't the only Abercrombie film adaptation in the works. Best Served Cold , one of his most beloved standalone novels, is currently being developed as a feature film with Rebecca Ferguson set to play the deadly Monza Murcatto. That project is being directed by Deadpool's Tim Miller and is currently in pre-production. Cameron, meanwhile, still has a few stops left on the Avatar train. Fire and Ash , the third installment in his sprawling sci-fi epic, is scheduled to open on December 19th. Two more sequels are planned after that, with tentative release dates in 2029 and 2031. But clearly, the filmmaker is already mapping out his next creative obsession. If The Devils lands with the scope and visual intensity we associate with Cameron, and given the source material, this could be a great new chapter for both the director and modern fantasy cinema. The Devils is available now in print, ebook, and audiobook formats.

I Live in the City Where Netflix's Thrilling New Crime Drama Is Set. I Barely Recognize It
Any well-reviewed crime drama that draws numerous comparisons to Apple TV's brilliant Slow Horses will easily earn a place on my to-watch list, but as soon as Dept. Q hit Netflix last week, I hit play without hesitation. The reason I was in such a hurry to dive in is that I live in Edinburgh -- the city where the new detective show is set. Edinburgh is often used as a filming location, but most of the time it simply provides a picturesque and/or historical backdrop for a TV show or film -- it's more about the aesthetic effect rather than playing a pivotal role in the plot. Dept. Q is different. Jaded detective Carl Morck, played by a grizzled Matthew Goode, who is recovering from a shooting that killed one police officer, nearly killed him and paralysed his partner on a call-out, has been tasked with running a new department delving into Edinburgh's cold cases. The case that Goode picks out, along with the circumstances surrounding his shooting, has complex, knotty links to Edinburgh's justice system and criminal underworld. Here, the city provides more than just a pretty skyline -- it's pulled into the foreground, with the key players moving between the grand courts on Edinburgh's famous Royal Mile and the grimier parts of the city that tourists never see. As someone who calls Edinburgh home, I'm more than familiar with the landmarks, but I don't recognize the side of the city I see in the show at all. That's not to say it's not accurate. Edinburgh Castle is obviously a familiar sight to me. Netflix Sure, Edinburgh isn't exactly a hotbed of violent crime compared with other cities in the UK and definitely compared with cities in the US. In the five years I've lived here, I can remember only one fatal shooting making the news. But I also fully acknowledge that the majority of organized crime is often hidden from the view of those not immersed in that world. Occasionally, violent incidents, police raids or trials spill over, sending ripples of anxiety through neighborhoods and cropping up in headlines. But artistic portrayals, while often exaggerated for dramatic effect, can expose us to versions of places that otherwise might remain hidden from view. As a city famed for its beauty, often thought of as genteel and rather sedate, it's interesting to see Edinburgh portrayed as a place that is so much more than the tourist ideal. Not since the 1996 film Trainspotting has a less romanticized vision of the city been seen on screen. Dept. Q even wasn't originally set in Edinburgh -- it's actually adapted from a Danish novel of the same name -- but as a resident, I appreciated the way it provided a different perspective on the place that I know and love. It was also fun to spot parts of town I'm intimately familiar with appear in a relatively high-production show -- the castle view from outside my favorite indie record store, for example. There are many flaws with Dept Q, from little niggles (what local journalist can afford to drive a Porsche?) to pacing issues -- especially in the first episode. The plot is so meaty that at times it becomes convoluted. But in spite of all of this, I found myself staying up past my bedtime to watch "just one more episode" -- as my husband and I would tell each other with a sideways glance, fully aware that we were succumbing to a full-on binge. Is it perfect? No. Am I already hankering after season 2? Absolutely. Am I hoping Edinburgh will loom even larger in future episodes? I'm asking nicely -- yes, please.
