Cooper Flagg debut: When will Dallas Mavericks rookie play during NBA's Summer League?
Flagg was the No. 1 overall pick by the Mavericks on June 25. While he's expected to be the franchise's future star, he will not have to carry the burden of taking on those primary responsibilities as a rookie on the roster that already features Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving.
Until then, Flagg will be the focal point on July 10, when he will be the featured attraction in his debut as the Mavericks take on the Los Angeles Lakers at 8 p.m. ET.

No. 17 pick Joan Beringer inks rookie-scale contract with Timberwolves
French center Joan Beringer, the 17th pick in the 2025 NBA draft, signed his rookie-scale contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday, the team announced. Beringer helped Cedevita Olimpija win the Slovenian Basketball Cup last season, averaging 5.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks on 64.4% shooting from the field. He scored in double figures 11 times, including a season-high 14 points and 10 rebounds on May 27. He will make $4,201,080 next season, according to Spotrac. The 6-foot-11 standout was highly touted entering the draft because of his versatility, athleticism and rim protection. He ranked second in the Adriatic League in blocked shots, thanks to his timing, instincts and 7-foot, 4 1/2-inch wingspan. Before signing with Cedevita Olimpija, Beringer played for the Strasbourg Saint Joseph-Basket U17 team and the U18 and U21 teams for SIG Strasbourg. He is the first player from France to be drafted by the Timberwolves and the third overall selected with the 17th pick. The 18-year-old has also represented France internationally at the 2024 FIBA U18 EuroBasket. He averaged 9.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and one assist on 70.5% shooting from the field in seven games, helping France to a fifth-place finish in Finland. Beringer will participate with the Timberwolves in the NBA Summer League, beginning Thursday against the New Orleans Pelicans (3:30 p.m. EDT, ESPN2).

New York Knicks hire Mike Brown, a two-time NBA Coach of the Year
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks hired Mike Brown on Monday, turning to the two-time NBA Coach of the Year after firing Tom Thibodeau. The Knicks offered the job to Brown last week and announced Monday that he would be taking over the team that reached the Eastern Conference finals last season for the first time in 25 years. They decided to fire Thibodeau despite that and eventually picked Brown, who wasn't out of work long after getting fired by the Sacramento Kings during last season. The Knicks liked Brown's experience working as an assistant on teams that have won four NBA championships — two more than the Knicks franchise has won. 'Mike has coached on the biggest stages in our sport and brings championship pedigree to our organization,' Knicks president Leon Rose said in a statement. 'His experience leading the bench during the NBA Finals, winning four titles as an assistant coach and his ability to grow and develop players will all help us as we aim to bring a championship to New York for our fans.' Brown had led the Kings to the postseason in 2023 — their first appearance since 2006 — and was voted the Coach of the Year. He also won the award in Cleveland, where he led the Cavaliers to the 2007 NBA Finals. He was on San Antonio's bench when the Spurs won the 2023 NBA title and was with the Golden State Warriors for their 2017, '18 and '22 championships, including going 12-0 as the acting head coach during the 2017 postseason when Steve Kerr was sidelined with a back injury. Brown is 454-304 in 11 seasons, winning at least 45 games in seven of them. He will take over a Knicks team with championship potential. The Knicks won at least 50 games in each of the last two seasons and knocked off 2024 champion Boston before falling to Indiana in six games in the East finals. ___ AP NBA:
