New Work Truck and Van Market
New vehicle pricing continued its gradual rise, with the average final price increasing by 0.4% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) and 0.3% year-over-year (YoY) to $59,842. On-lot inventory per dealer dipped slightly from Q1 (down 0.6%) but remains significantly higher year-over-year (up 14.7%).
Sales activity picked up, with units moved per dealer rising 12.5% from Q1 and 35.0% year-over-year, reflecting operational demand, as well as a likely number of pull-ahead sales due to tariff concerns. Still, Days-to-Turn (DTT) rose again—up 17.4% from last quarter and 69.7% compared to Q2 2024—revealing slower commercial vehicle inventory turns despite higher sales as pockets of inventory remain mismatched to their market demand.
Used Work Truck and Van Market
Used vehicle pricing continued to soften, falling 1.7% from Q1 and 2.9% year-over-year to an average final price of $34,456. Used inventory per dealer remained nearly flat compared to the first quarter of the year, after dipping in the final two quarters of 2024, while sales ticked upward by 4.5% QoQ and 10.5% YoY. Despite an anomalous uptick in Q1 2025, DTT, as expected, continued to decline overall, dropping 5.6% YoY.
Median mileage of used commercial trucks and vans dropped 10.8% QoQ, but is still up 5.1% YoY. The quarterly drop in mileage is likely a result of more businesses trading in fleet vehicles in general, and doing so earlier than during the 'pandemic era' when on-lot inventories were dramatically impacted by supply challenges.
Commercial BEV/HEV Market Insights
New commercial battery electric and hybrid vehicle (BEV/HEV) pricing saw a substantial uptick, with new prices rising 1.8% QoQ and 19.1% YoY to an average of $57,513. Conversely, used commercial vehicle prices in this segment fell 0.64% QoQ and 3.7% YoY.
As more alternative fuel vehicles come into the market, Work Truck Solutions will offer further insights into the commercial BEV/HEV sector.
Industry Perspective
'Although sales across most body types remain strong, the continued rise in new vehicle Days-to-Turn tells an important story,' said Aaron Johnson, CEO of Work Truck Solutions. 'While not a slowdown, there are more vehicles on the lot, more choices for buyers, and more competition among commercial vehicle dealers.'
Johnson continued, saying, 'For dealerships, this means the landscape is shifting. Success will hinge on how well they differentiate and adapt—whether through pricing strategies, inventory mix, digital merchandising, or more likely, a combination of all of these. The same tools that helped dealers thrive during leaner inventory times are at least as essential, if not more so, in an environment of increased competition. Visibility, agility, and customer engagement aren't just advantages—they're requirements.'

Axon Enterprise (AXON) Vs Palantir Technologies (PLTR): Which is the Better Investment?

Strong Q2 results have led to a further uproar in Axon Enterprise AXON and Palantir Technologies PLTR shares this week, remaining two of the hottest momentum stocks. Axon's stock has now spiked over +40% year to date, with Palantir shares surging more than +130%. More astonishing, AXON is up over +640% in the last three years with PLTR skyrocketing more than 1,700%. Considering their millionaire-maker-like gains, investors are surely wondering which of these hot stocks is the better investment at the moment. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Axon Thrives on Increased Public Safety Spending Thanks to increased global defense and public safety spending, Axon easily surpassed its Q2 expectations while posting stellar top and bottom line growth. The innovative manufacturer of weapons for the U.S. and international governments posted Q2 sales of $668.54 million, which soared nearly 33% year over year and comfortably topped estimates of $642.98 billion by 4%. Furthermore, this marked the 14th consecutive quarter of revenue growth above 25%, with CEO Rick Smith stating Axon is seeing broad demand across the company's portfolio, including for its AI services, drones, cameras, and virtual reality solutions. More impressive, Axon's Q2 earnings came in at $2.12 per share, crushing expectations of $1.54 by 37% and soaring 76% from $1.20 in the prior period. Axon has now exceeded the Zacks EPS Consensus for a remarkable 33 consecutive quarters, with a very impressive average earnings surprise of 25.87% in its last four quarterly reports. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Palantir's First Billion-Dollar Quarter Also thriving from increased defense spending, including the securement of a $10 billion contract with the U.S. Army, Palantir achieved its first-ever billion-dollar quarter, topping estimates of $938.33 million. This was a 48% spike from Q2 sales of $678.13 million a year ago, as the software provider saw strong demand for its artificial intelligence platform (AIP) outside of the intelligence communities. Pinpointing increased commercial demand for AIP, Palantir CEO Alex Karp stated that companies are using Palantir's tools not just to optimize operations, but to reshape entire business models. Palantir is also taking advantage of its expansive sales growth, with Q2 EPS of $0.16 rising from $0.09 a share in the comparative quarter and edging expectations of $0.14. Notably, Palantir has now reached of exceeded the Zacks EPS Consensus for 11 consecutive quarters with an average earnings surprise of 13.17% over the last four quarters. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Axon & Palantir Raise Their Full-Year Guidance Adding fuel to investor sentiment is that Axon and Palantir have raised their full-year revenue guidance. Optimistically, Axon now forecasts fiscal 2025 revenue at $2.65-$2.73 billion, up from $2.6-$2.7 billion. It's also noteworthy that Axon expects full-year adjusted EBITDA of $665-$685 million, raised from $650-$675 million. Pivoting to Palantir, the company raised its FY25 revenue forecast to $4.142 billion-$4.15 billion, up from previous guidance of $3.89 billion-$3.9 billion. The bump is specifically attributed to full-year commercial revenue guidance increasing to over $1 billion, reflecting at least 85% growth. Additionally, Palantir raised its adjusted income from operations guidance to between $1.912 billion-1.92 billion and increased its adjusted free cash flow guidance to $1.8 billion-$2 billion. Monitoring Axon & Palantir's Valuation While Axon is well ahead in terms of moving further past the probability line than Palantir, the price-to-sales ratio may still be a better indicator of judging the value these hot stocks offer to investors at their current levels, rather than price-to-earnings. That said, Axon is also growing into its lofty valuation more swiftly regarding the P/S ratio after a rebranding to reflect its broader mission in public safety technology. To that point, Axon trades at 25X forward sales, which is far more reasonable than Palantir's 104X. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Conclusion & Final Thoughts Although Palantir's ability to benefit from the AI boom makes it the better momentum stock at the moment, Axon appears to be the overall better investment when considering its more justifiable valuation. Axon's profitability also makes it a more sound investment, and earnings estimate revisions (EPS) have remained higher, correlating with AXON sporting a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy). On the other hand, Palantir stock lands a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), and investors may certainly be looking for better entry points given PLTR doesn't offer much fundamental value after such a monstrous year-to-date rally. Hawaii's New Tourism Tax Is Meant to Combat Climate Change Costs

As Hawaii nears the second anniversary of the devastating Maui wildfires, it's rolling out an unprecedented measure to offset climate change costs—and it's targeting tourists' wallets. Starting January 1, 2026, the Aloha State's 10 million annual visitors will face a slightly higher price tag: a new 'green fee,' raising Hawaii's tourism tax from 10.25 percent to 11 percent, Bloomberg reported. The extra charge—averaging about $2 per visitor per day—is expected to generate $100 million annually, all of which will be funneled directly into environmental restoration and climate mitigation efforts, from coral reef rehabilitation to fire-prevention projects. More from Robb Report Late Colts Owner Jim Irsay's Lavish Indiana Estate Lists for $12 Million Egypt's $1 Billion Archeological Museum Will Finally Open This Fall This $6.6 Million London Townhouse Delivers Playful Sophistication Near Hyde Park The bill, championed by Governor Josh Green, marks the first dedicated climate fee on tourism in the United States. Its passage follows years of stalled attempts in the legislature, but the 2023 fires, which caused over $5.5 billion in damages, ignited public support. 'Those fires profoundly awakened our state,' Green said, according to Bloomberg. 'The reality [is] that we have to have a mechanism to mitigate risk and prepare for future potential disasters.' Hawaii's approach contrasts with typical tourist taxes that often fund infrastructure or marketing. Instead, the new levy places sustainability at the center of travel economics, part of a growing global trend that includes destinations like Venice and Bhutan, where tourism fees are increasingly used as tools for conservation and crowd control. Green's plan also includes phasing out the Hawaii Tourism Authority, replacing it with a nonprofit Destination Stewardship Organization aimed at prioritizing local values, sustainability, and community engagement over mass-market promotion. While some tourists have resisted what they're calling a 'surf tax,' the move has received widespread support from Hawaii's hospitality sector. 'The visitor industry relies on Hawaii's natural environment, and we aren't doing enough to protect it,' University of Hawaii economist Carl Bonham told Bloomberg. 'This bill had significant support from the hotel industry, because the money is being reinvested in something that's going to protect the tourism industry.' Yet, concerns remain. Critics worry that layering new fees atop existing permits and reservations could erode local spending, a broader issue echoed in other destinations responding to rising overtourism through taxes and regulation. In certain tourist hot spots like Paris, Barcelona, and London, it's unclear if travel regulations are even accomplishing their intended goals. Still, Governor Green believes Hawaii's green fee may offer a roadmap for other U.S. states facing escalating climate costs. 'It's probably different for everyone,' he told Bloomberg, 'but I expect other places . . . to do some version of this.' If Hawaii succeeds in tying tourism to long-term environmental stewardship, it may set a new gold standard for responsible travel in the climate age.
