This Surprising Brand Is Full Of Could-Be Designer Dresses - And I Can't Stop Wearing Them

Confession: I recently pledged to dress appropriately for the great British summer, and it's been a revelation. Having spent most of my summers in the Mediterranean and the tropics, my idea of warm-weather dressing has never quite aligned with the UK's… let's say interpretation of summer. Earlier this year, I found myself obsessed, compulsively refreshing Monsoon's new-in section and making 'accidental' detours past the gorgeous Princess Street store in Edinburgh. The colourful prints, the rich colourways - they lure me in every time. Plus, I found that Monsoon dresses were versatile enough to become my go-to for whatever the British weather throws our way during summer. Mission complete. ©@annelorasscagliusi ©©@annelorasscagliusi It all started with the pink Patricia ruffle-sleeve midi dress I wore on Mother's Day. Honestly, I felt like a princess for the day. The dress caught plenty of stares, and the good kind. Those ruffles? Bold but totally wearable, with a flow that felt like it was made just for me. It's hands down the best dress in my wardrobe right now, and I've shamelessly worn it on repeat for my anniversary and any day I want to feel a little extra. Since then, Monsoon has had me hooked, a seamless mix of daily go-tos, workwear wins, and occasion-ready pieces that I keep coming back to. The prints always feel like a holiday, and the shapes somehow flatter perfectly. Whenever I'm stuck on what to wear, these dresses save the day — always on point, just like my favourite Self-Portrait pieces. They're the kind of dresses that never fail to make me look and feel flawless. ©@annelorasscagliusi ©©@annelorasscagliusi If you're not familiar with the brand, Monsoon's designs are effortlessly elegant yet approachable. Think floaty silhouettes, intricate embroidery, and rich textures that nod to bohemian romance without feeling overdone. Moving seamlessly from easy day dresses to occasion-ready styles, some pieces could easily be mistaken for designer without the eye-watering price tag. And I'd say most of the pieces I have fit true to size, so I always recommend sticking with your usual. As a petite woman, I find its dresses tend to run a bit longer than I'd like, but that hasn't bothered me. So, without further ado, and after plenty of scrolling, here are the Monsoon dresses truly worth your attention. Consider this your go-to list of pieces you'll want to wear on repeat. 1. Patricia Ruffle-Sleeve Midi Dress If I had to choose just one Monsoon dress to wear forever, it would be this. My beloved pink version is sadly sold out (for now), but thanks to its cult following, it's back in stock in a rich red and classic navy. Honestly? If I were you, I'd get both - it's the kind of dress you'll want in every colour. The exaggerated ruffle sleeves are dramatic yet totally wearable, the skirt has the dreamiest swish, and it's guaranteed to make you feel special. I reach for it on anniversaries, family occasions, or any day I want to feel extra feminine. For daytime, I pair it with mesh ballet flats; for evening, strappy heels do the trick. 2. Mae Devore Midi Dress Bow, puff sleeves, and polka dots, the timeless trio that never loses its charm. This sheer, velvet-spotted midi is finished with a collared neckline, short puff sleeves, and a statement bow at the front, making it equal parts feminine and polished. It's the kind of piece you can wear to work, a meeting, or a smart dinner without having to overthink your outfit. Just add heels, and you're set for morning-to-evening dressing. 3. Agatha Tie Front Check Midi Dress New in and already a pre-fall favourite, this dress will quietly dominate wardrobes once the leaves turn crimson. In rich burgundy check, with charming tie-front bows along the bodice, it's perfect for those "just in case" plans. Dress it down for coffee or style it up for dinner — it's a versatile winner you'll reach for on repeat. 4. Tasmin Button Denim Midi Dress If denim isn't usually your thing (it's not mine either), but you'd still like to weave a little into your wardrobe, this dress could be the one. What won me over is its perfect balance, casual thanks to the denim, yet polished with its structured shape. If you're only buying one denim dress this year, make it this one. A classic collared, button-through design with long sleeves and a swishy midi hem, it's timeless and endlessly versatile. I've worn mine to a weekend picnic, for a leisurely city stroll, and even on a quick coffee run. Pair it with boots in autumn, trainers come spring, or sandals when the sun's out. It's the definition of an effortless wardrobe workhorse. 5. Briana Tie Floral Appliqué Midi Dress Black in summer? Always. I wore this on my birthday with my Strathberry Osette Raffia bag, and it was the perfect celebration dress. The XL tie straps (totally on-trend), super flattering form-fitting bodice, and sheer A-line skirt scattered with bold embroidered florals make it effortlessly dramatic. It's the kind of dress that turns heads without trying too hard, and it's the kind of dress that makes you feel confident about your body, even if you're showing some skin. 6. Sicily Fit and Flare Midi Dress Polka dots aren't just for New Year's Eve; this print has ruled every IT-girl's feed all summer, and it's here to stay. For dressier occasions, the Sicily fit and flare midi (available in multiple prints and colourways) secures its place as a forever dress. It was the most popular dress on the internet last year, and with its fitted sleeveless bodice and swishy fit-and-flare skirt, it's easy to see why. Universally flattering, endlessly wearable and yes, it has pockets. 7. Suki Long Sleeve Ruffle Maxi Dress Another ruffle moment? Absolutely. This one is pure magic, think peak Sienna Miller in her 2000s boho-chic glory. Made for autumn days when you want to turn heads, it features romantic blouson sleeves, a smocked waistline, and cascading ruffles that flow as you move. Wear it desk-to-dinner with heeled boots and nothing else. 8. Nancy Appliqué Puff-Sleeve Midi Dress For butter-yellow lovers, this is your dream dress. This one's earned its fair share of 5-star reviews and for good reason. The fit is beautiful, the shade of yellow is spot-on for the season, and it pulls you in at all the right places. Simply put, it's a dress worth buying. Made from a cotton-linen blend in a dreamy yellow shade, it features voluminous puff sleeves, delicate appliqué swirls, and vintage-inspired buttons down the front. It feels like sunshine and nostalgia rolled into one, the ultimate pick for brunch, cruise holiday, garden parties, or any sunny occasion where you want to channel British summer vibes to the fullest. Jeff Brazier ‘makes surprising legal move' after concerns for son Freddy

Jeff Brazier has made a major move in his legal case against Jade Goody's mum Jackiey Budden. Over the years Jeff and Jackiey have repeatedly come to blows publicly, with the situation between them becoming so tense that she lost contact with her grandsons for several years. In March Jeff, 45, launched a legal bid to prevent his son Freddy, 20, from seeing his maternal grandmother. It was reported at the time that the TV presenter, who also shares son Bobby with the late Big Brother star, was taking action to 'legally block contact' between Freddy and Jackiey, 68 due to concerns over 'keeping his son safe'. Soon after Jackiey lashed out at Jeff, calling him names when asked about the legal proceedings. Not long after she was photographed 'smoking a joint' with her grandson in South London. A few months on though and Jeff has now reportedly dropped the case after 'making peace' with Jackiey. 'Effectively they've all made peace for the time being and are trying to make things better again, which is doing them the world of good,' a source told The Sun. 'It's actually the perfect outcome for everyone, and exactly what Jade would have wanted. The boys are happier for it, and the constant in-fighting has stopped… for now.' They added that Freddy 'remains devoted' to his grandmother and had been 'threatening to leave the UK to be with his grandmother abroad if Jeff carried on his legal case'. A source also told the publication that Freddy is again living with Jackiey in her flat in South London, but is also spending time with his dad and brother. Last week Jeff reunited with his sons at 101 Dalmatians: The Musical at the Eventim Apollo in London, where he made his West End debut. 'So lovely to have both the lads come along to watch me in @101dalmatiansuk I love how much it made them laugh and it was really special that they were both there to support me. Thanks for coming @freddybrazier_ @bobbybrazier,' he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo with his sons. 'What a show, loved every minute of it! Most of all I loved watching you just play and have fun. I love you Dad,' Freddy commented. On Monday night he also posted a photo of his dad on Instagram and shared a touching caption. 'Grateful for my dad's advice. Grateful that forgiveness is a thing. Grateful that I got to see someone important to me. Grateful for my boys.' Goody died aged 27 from cervical cancer in 2009, when Freddy was just four years old. During his appearance on Race Across the World with his dad last year, Freddy shared a heartbreaking insight into his grief following the death of his mum when he was so young. 'I lost my mum when I was four and that was on Mother's Day, which is really hard. I don't really like showing my emotions. I don't even speak to my dad much about my mum either. I just avoid it. I prefer to bottle it up,' he said. More Trending 'I don't want to feel like I'm a burden to them. A lot of my memories that I have of my mum have come from watching a documentary, YouTube clips, newspapers, they are not my memories. While holding back tears, he continued: 'I don't really remember being held by my mum. If I had more memories of her, it would have made it a whole lot harder for me. 'But I think I would rather that than not really remember the things that I had done with my mum. It's just life really and I've kind of accepted that.' Top gift ideas for Mother's Day

Tied with tradition and layered with meaning, the day marks the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, hence the wave of blue that sweeps across everything from clothing to gift wrapping. The colour, along with the jasmine flower (dok mali), has become synonymous with the occasion – symbols of grace and purity offered in admiration and respect by grateful offspring to mummy-dearest. In contemporary times though it's about reinterpreting iconic elements like garlands, florals and soft blues into gifts that feel personal, thoughtful and anything but basic. So instead of reaching for the usual last-minute bouquet, the following suggestions take the familiar symbols of Thai Mother's Day and give them a contemporary twist. Respectful doesn't have to mean boring – you can celebrate matriarchs this Mother's Day with myriad gifts that combine meaning and modernity. Flowers, bouquets and garlands Flowers might be the classic Mother's Day move but that doesn't mean you have to play it safe. In Thai culture, the jasmine garland (phuang malai) is a time-honoured symbol of purity, love and deep respect. It's given by the child to the mother as a powerful gesture of gratitude. Brands like Flower in Hand by P, 1000malai, Loca Flowers and Ivy & Pollen are turning tradition into art. They're crafting garlands that go beyond the usual – a mix of florals, textures and unexpected details made just for Mother's Day. Each piece is exclusive, expressive and designed to say more than words ever could. Baked goodies Now for something sweet. We're talking confections made with precision so fine they're almost too pretty to eat: they're the kind of gift that speaks for you. It only takes a bit of thought to turn something beautiful into something personal. After all, just knowing your mother's favourite flavours shows that you've been paying attention, and that's the part she'll love most. Thai pastries bring more than flavour to the table though – they bring feeling. At Summer Forest that sentiment shines through in custom cakes with edible photo prints paired with a Mother's Day-ready set that includes a floral garland. Meanwhile, Little Hideout Patisserie leans into French classics, presenting desserts adorned with lace-like floral decorations – delicate touches that feel just right for celebrating Mum. Scented essentials Thailand's scented scene offers plenty of ways to bottle up affection. Long associated with Thai motherhood, jasmine often takes centre stage – its gentle notes stirring calm and quiet nostalgia with every inhalation. And when it comes to packaging, the same care is applied: each item is thoughtfully wrapped and often looks just as striking as the scent inside. From artisanal candles to perfume oils and room sprays, these fragrant essentials feel like love letters in a bottle. Thai brands have captured the signature scent of jasmine in their own distinct ways. Panpuri's Siamese Water pairs jasmine with crisp mint and citrus for a clean and enervating modern take. Garland by Journal channels the soft femininity of a traditional Thai offering, while Bath & Bloom's Thai Jasmine stays rooted in purity, delivering a timeless floral profile. Each interpretation sets a different mood but all honour jasmine's deep ties to love and tradition. For something that lasts beyond the day and prolongs the personal vibe, look to pieces that carry a story, a sense of craft or a touch of everyday charm. Thai designers continue to turn heritage into keepsakes. Scarves take on new life through brands like Jim Thompson and Naraya, where classic Thai silk is reinterpreted in elegant, enduring designs. Tote bags from Slowstitch studio and Marionsiam offer a more earth-conscious perspective, celebrating natural dyes, handwoven textures and traditional techniques through a modern, sustainable lens. On the jewellery front, Sarran leans into soft femininity, transforming floral details into sculptural pieces. Rooted in themes of motherhood and womanhood, the brand honours the quiet strength and beauty of maternal love, making its creations especially meaningful for the occasion. Shependence, by contrast, embraces a minimalist ethos with clean-lined gold and silver pieces that empower through simplicity. Their photo lockets, designed to hold tiny family portraits, offer a deeply intimate sentimental touch.
