Bodh Gaya Buddhists slam China's ‘control tactics'

Patna: The sacred land of
Bodh Gaya
is seething with anger. Members of the Buddhist community have expressed deep outrage over China's attempt to dictate terms on the succession of the 14th Dalai Lama, considered both a spiritual and political leader by Tibetans.
The controversy erupted after Beijing rejected the Dalai Lama's declaration that his reincarnation would be recognised solely by the trust he founded. China insisted any future Dalai Lama must be chosen through its own state-sanctioned processes, including the archaic "Golden Urn" method.
Bhante Priyapal, chief priest of Chakma Temple and a member of the International Buddhist Council, described China's actions as "totally unfair" and an extension of its expansionist policy.
"Only the Dalai Lama should have the authority to name his successor," he said.
Bhante Anand, general secretary of the Bhartiya Sangharaj Bhikkuu Mahasabha, voiced unanimous support. "The Dalai Lama is not just a spiritual leader but the King of Tibet. Only he has the right to choose his successor," he said.
Tibetan Lama Tashi Guruji added, "We will only go by the Dalai Lama's decision. China must not meddle in our spiritual affairs."

Bhante Prajanasheel, chief advisor of the All India Buddhist Forum, said most Buddhists don't believe in reincarnation as Buddha preached liberation from the cycle of birth and death. "Still, the community stands firmly with the Dalai Lama," he said.
China affairs expert Ajay Jha cautioned that the issue could further strain Sino-Indian relations. "India must tread carefully," he added.

CM: Won't tolerate hooliganism in the name of Marathi

Mumbai: Hooliganism under the guise of Marathi pride will not be tolerated in the state, CM Fadnavis warned on Friday. He said police had registered an FIR and taken action in the Mira Road incident where a businessman was beaten up by MNS workers for not knowing Marathi. Speaking to the media, Fadnavis said beating up someone over language was wrong. "We are Marathi and are proud of the language. Insisting that a person speak in Marathi is not wrong, but beating up a businessman because he does not know it is wrong. Our Marathi-speaking people are doing business in different states, and if they do not know the local language, should they get similar treatment? Such behaviour and hooliganism are not correct. Action will be taken against such violent behaviour," he said. CM Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday, "We are proud of Marathi, but no injustice can be done to any other Indian language. Sometimes I am amazed they embrace English but create disputes over Hindi. What kind of thinking is this, and what kind of action is this?" "Should businessmen not do business? If a Marathi-speaking businessman goes to Assam and does business there and takes time to learn Assamese, should he be meted out similar treatment? Should the people of Assam beat him up? If you genuinely take pride in Marathi, then serve the language, start classes to teach Marathi, teach your children Marathi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Why have you set up schools where it is clearly mentioned that Marathi is the third language?" he asked. On the Thackeray cousins holding a "victory rally" over state govt's withdrawal of two GRs about Hindi being taught as a third language from Class 1, Fadnavis said they (Thackerays) seem to be happy about the decision taken by govt. "Let them hold the victory rally. The committee to make recommendations was set up by them, they put their aide on the committee, the committee recommended that Hindi and English should be made compulsory from Class 1 to 12, the recommendations were accepted by them in the cabinet, the minutes were signed by them. .. the Marathi manoos knows they are double-faced," he said. This was a reiteration of his earlier statement that Uddhav Thackery as CM had accepted the report of the Mashelkar panel recommending that Hindi be the third language from Class 1.

'Indian diaspora in Africa identifies as African because...': Woman's post supporting Zohran Mamdani goes viral

Woman's post explaining why Mamdani is not wrong to identify himself as an African went viral. Amid the controversy over New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani 's race, a woman supported Mamdani identifying himself as an African though not by blood and said the entire Indian diaspora in Africa identifies as African. "...because we are! From! Africa!" the woman, Sophia Babai, wrote on BlueSky. The woman explained that her parents are from the same diaspora as Zohran's father Mahmood Mamdani and they will always introduce themselves as African, and there is nothing wrong in it. Sophia explained that Americans don't understand the extent to which the Indian diaspora in East Africa is a separate culture in itself. She said that compared to Indians, they eat different food, follow a different branch of Islam and have a culture of their own, which is not Indian. Their language is stuffed with Swahili and they look different from Indians. Woman's post on Gujarati African diaspora in connection with Mamdani went viral Indian diaspora in Africa identify as Africans, the woman said. "It is also just incredibly funny seeing white Americans claim that Zohran can't identify as African because he isn't Black, like sir ma'am where do you think white people came from," the woman said explaining how a group called Lohana who are believed to be from Lahore ended up in Guajarat and Punjab and later converted -- tracing the roots of Mamdani's family. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "Every Gujarati African I have ever met identifies as African first, and probably Indian second but possibly not Indian at all. Indians certainly consider us African, to a point where more traditional Indians will not intermarry with us, even if they are ethnically and religiously identical," the woman explained. The post came in reaction to a major row over Zohran Mamdani claiming himself to be African-American or Black in the application for Columbia University. Though he did not get into Columbia, the revelation that he attempted at a faulty racial identity triggered a political storm, though Mamdani said he was not aiming to gain anything but was trying to capture his diverse background as he was born in Uganda.
