Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett's close bond also made the top 15 alongside Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks.
Yet it was 78-year-old Elton 's connection with US rapper Eminem, 52, which came out top, after the Rocket Man singer forged a connection with the chart star when he became his AA sponsor.
The Detroit born rapper and actor reached out to pop legend Elton who came to his rescue.
"As a fellow musical superstar with nearly 30 years of sobriety under his belt, Elton John was the perfect mentor to help guide Marshall," wrote author Anthony Bozza in his book Not Afraid: The Evolution of Eminem.
"The two started on a program of weekly check-ins and grew very close."
The popularity of Elton's friendship with the Stan rapper, real name Marshall Mathers, comes after he made amends with Madonna, ending their years-long feud.
While looking at the list of the nation's traditional favourite duos, the survey also stated how Laurel and Hardy (42 per cent), Ant and Dec (31 per cent) and Paul McCartney and John Lennon (29 per cent) came out on top.
The research was commissioned by Twix, which has partnered with TV personality Pete Wicks, 37, featuring his famous friendly other half, Sam Thompson, 32, to celebrate its campaign Two is more than one.
The pair emulate the likes of 'Spiedi, 'Brangelina' and 'Bennifer' as they announce their own duo nickname 'Sam and Pete Twix' - merging their surnames to take their duo status up a new notch.
Pete said: 'We couldn't be any more different, and that just works, so we (or more so Sam) jumped at the chance of combining our names.
Elton John wows fans with 'incredible' Saturday Night Live performance amid health battle and losing his sight
'He's gutted he didn't think of it first, though jokes aside, the best thing about our duo is we always have each other's backs – and you can't ask for more than that.'
The research also found other iconic duos included comedians French and Saunders (25 per cent), rock legends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (16 per cent), as well as Noel and Liam Gallagher (12 per cent).
When quizzed on what makes a pairing iconic, 56 per cent say it's about bringing out the best in each other.
Meanwhile, 24 per cent believe it's because they are total opposite, but it works - and another 24 per cent reckon a key sign is everyone talking about them.

Miley Cyrus shades ex-husband Liam Hemsworth with snide move

The pop singer threw some subtle shade at her ex-husband and Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, while signing her brand new album for fans at a meet and greet event Miley Cyrus married her long-time partner, Liam Hemsworth, in a secret ceremony back in 2018 after meeting on a movie set almost 10 years prior, but their marriage quickly came to an end within a year. Their breakup helped to inspire Miley's biggest hit yet, with the Grammy-winning song Flowers, but the references don't stop there, as she makes a cheeky comment while promoting her new album. After tying the knot in December of 2018, Hemsworth made a public statement on his Instagram, writing: "Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated, and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward." That same month, the Aussie actor filed for divorce, and by February 2020, the couple were officially, and legally, single. ‌ ‌ Despite their long split, Miley recently threw some subtle shade at her ex during an interaction with a dedicated fan at an album signing. The fan shared the same name as her ex-husband (Liam), and when signing their 'Something Beautiful' album, she made an illusive comment. displayed their autographed album, clearly addressed to 'The best Liam,' along with the pop star's signature. Her tongue-in-cheek remark made the fan's day, and they captioned the photo: "Me when I'm 'The Best Liam.'" Since going their separate ways, Miley has moved on with fellow musician and drummer Maxx Morando, with whom she has been loved up since 2021 and even features as a collaborator on her latest album. While Hemsworth has been in a relationship since 2019 with model Gabriella Brooks. ‌ Five years on from their short-lived marriage, not only has Miley had huge success in her singing career, but similarly, in her personal life. In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, she opened up about her journey to sobriety and the impact it's had on her life and relationships. Cyrus explained: "I've learned this about myself over the years: sobriety is, like, that's like my God." Adding that she "needs it" and how it has changed her "entire life." While the pop star hasn't opened up much about their relationship outside of her music, she recently reflected on it when remembering the house fire that destroyed their shared home in 2018. At a preview performance of her latest record in New York, Cyrus drew close connections between losing their home and the breakdown of their relationship. ‌ "I guess for me, when my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down, and that again just led me to such magic and to have so much gratitude," the singer shared. She went on to explain: "Losing everything and being able to rebuild, and to be able to be purposeful and choose every piece that I'm going to collect, or also just about the people in my life. "I think what I would have told my younger self is to appreciate those darker times because, like I said, they are only leading you into the light." That light could just be Something Beautiful, her new visual album, which first released on May 30 and follows in the footsteps of Endless Summer Vacation, packed full with Hemsworth references.

ADRIAN THRILLS: Beyoncé turned damp Tottenham Hotspur into a giant nightclub (and didn't let the rain stop her!)... the night was a masterpiece!

LIVE: BEYONCÉ (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London) Verdict: Queen Bey earns her Spurs The stetsons and sequins were out in force last night as Beyonce 's Cowboy Carter tour rolled into London amid a blizzard of pyrotechnics. Opening her six-night residency at a damp Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Texan superstar was in her element. Two years ago, on her Renaissance tour, she turned stadiums into giant nightclubs. Last night, she converted one into the world's most high-tech rodeo, complete with a chrome-coated mechanical bucking bronco. As the singer's first UK concert since 2024's country-leaning Cowboy Carter album, this was a case of Queen Bey, 43, giving a predominantly female crowd her soulful take on Nashville while not forgetting to keep fans dancing with her biggest pop hits, most of which were sung straight back at her. Opening her six-night residency at a damp Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Texan superstar was in her element Split into a series of different acts, plus an encore, the night was a masterpiece of tightly-choreographed theatrics and LED effects, with Beyonce's supple, fiery voice and stagecraft front and centre. The show centred on last year's Grammy-winning album, which itself felt like the recorded version of a Western-themed stage musical. 'We won't let the rain stop us,' said Beyonce, who arrived onstage in cowgirl chaps, accompanied by an energetic dance troupe. She sang a folky version of The Beatles' Blackbird before turning The Star-Spangled Banner into a power ballad. Other Cowboy Carter highlights included country-soul number Levii's Jeans (her spelling), the fiddle-led hoedown Texas Hold 'Em, a cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene and slinky country-rocker Bodyguard. She sang power ballad 16 Carriages while suspended in mid-air at the wheel of a moving pink Cadillac. Reflecting the scope of her 'musical gumbo', she also dug into 2022's Renaissance LP, a more familiar mix of disco, funk and house, and sung the older hits Crazy In Love and Single Ladies as a roof-raising dance-pop medley. There had been talk beforehand of sluggish ticket sales – and some seats for this 62,000-capacity gig were still available online yesterday afternoon, sparking speculation that high prices were keeping fans away. I spotted a few empty seats, but reports of the demise of Beyonce's pulling power seem to have been greatly exaggerated. With the evening broken up by video interludes to allow for costume changes, momentum was sometimes lost. Such a tightly-scripted show also left little room for looseness, but there were still plenty of moments when she ad-libbed magnificently and let her vocals soar operatically. The Cowboy Carter tour has gone down well in the singer's homeland. But impressing US fans at Chicago's Soldier Field is one thing. Could Beyonce cut it on a chilly Thursday night in London? On this exuberant showing in Tottenham, she's earned her Spurs. Beyonce's London residency continues until June 16
