Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett's close bond also made the top 15 alongside Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks.
Yet it was 78-year-old Elton 's connection with US rapper Eminem, 52, which came out top, after the Rocket Man singer forged a connection with the chart star when he became his AA sponsor.
The Detroit born rapper and actor reached out to pop legend Elton who came to his rescue.
"As a fellow musical superstar with nearly 30 years of sobriety under his belt, Elton John was the perfect mentor to help guide Marshall," wrote author Anthony Bozza in his book Not Afraid: The Evolution of Eminem.
"The two started on a program of weekly check-ins and grew very close."
The popularity of Elton's friendship with the Stan rapper, real name Marshall Mathers, comes after he made amends with Madonna, ending their years-long feud.
While looking at the list of the nation's traditional favourite duos, the survey also stated how Laurel and Hardy (42 per cent), Ant and Dec (31 per cent) and Paul McCartney and John Lennon (29 per cent) came out on top.
The research was commissioned by Twix, which has partnered with TV personality Pete Wicks, 37, featuring his famous friendly other half, Sam Thompson, 32, to celebrate its campaign Two is more than one.
The pair emulate the likes of 'Spiedi, 'Brangelina' and 'Bennifer' as they announce their own duo nickname 'Sam and Pete Twix' - merging their surnames to take their duo status up a new notch.
Pete said: 'We couldn't be any more different, and that just works, so we (or more so Sam) jumped at the chance of combining our names.
Elton John wows fans with 'incredible' Saturday Night Live performance amid health battle and losing his sight
'He's gutted he didn't think of it first, though jokes aside, the best thing about our duo is we always have each other's backs – and you can't ask for more than that.'
The research also found other iconic duos included comedians French and Saunders (25 per cent), rock legends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (16 per cent), as well as Noel and Liam Gallagher (12 per cent).
When quizzed on what makes a pairing iconic, 56 per cent say it's about bringing out the best in each other.
Meanwhile, 24 per cent believe it's because they are total opposite, but it works - and another 24 per cent reckon a key sign is everyone talking about them.

Why Taylor Swift's belly button is trending again after The Life Of A Showgirl album announcement
Taylor Swift 's belly button is trending once again, years after bizarre theories that the pop star didn't have one first emerged. Last week, the 35-year-old Grammy winner announced her upcoming 12th studio album The Life Of A Showgirl, which is set to be released later this year on October 3. She excitedly shared the big news as she joined her boyfriend Travis Kelce on his New Heights podcast. Swift also took to social media to unveil the sexy album cover and accompanying photos as she embraced the showgirl theme, including one photo in which she posed in a bedazzled bralette top and matching bottoms, exposing her toned midriff. Fans have since taken to X to repost the image and recalled when there was speculation that Swift didn't have a belly button over a decade earlier — until she proved that she did have one in a bikini snap in 2015. One wrote, 'OG swifties look at this in shock that taylor is revealing her belly button, reminiscing on the days we joked that she didn't have one.' One wrote, 'OG swifties look at this in shock that taylor is revealing her belly button, reminiscing on the days we joked that she didn't have one' 'Honestly such a funny memory from back in the day!' another wrote, while an X user added, 'Such a long running joke and then when she finally got in on it and posted that photo proving she had one! iconic.' The fan appeared to be referencing the 2015 image of Swift as she posed with close pals on a Hawaiian vacation. The star — who was 25 at the time — struck a pose on the side of boat while sporting a striped bikini alongside the members of the band Haim. 'I literally cannot believe my eyes lol,' one also wrote about the latest album photos, and another commented, 'No literally that was my first thought after seeing this. "Belly button confirmed." A fan typed, 'no 'cause every time i stumble upon this picture i stare at a bit 'cause I can't believe we're seeing her belly button.' Another shared, 'I'll never forget the belly button reveal. She was with HAIM! Was it 2014?' and one penned, '2014 me would be in a septic shock after seeing this.' 'Every time I see taylor swift's belly button i feel like a victorian man seeing ankles for the first time,' an X user humorously added. Another said, 'one of my first thoughts was how wrong it feels to see her belly button,' and one joked, 'I think it's photoshopped tbh.' 'Honestly such a funny memory from back in the day!' another wrote, while an X user added, 'Such a long running joke and then when she finally got in on it and posted that photo proving she had one! iconic' The fan appeared to be referencing the 2015 image of Swift as she posed with close pals on a Hawaiian vacation 'I've been so over the moon about everything else that I had completely forgotten about the fact that we used to think that she didn't have a bellybutton lmao,' a Swiftie wrote. Swift previously opened up about the belly button speculation during an interview with the now defunct Lucky Magazine in 2014, shortly before she shared the bikini snap, per Entertainment Tonight. 'I don't like showing my belly button. When you start showing your belly button then you're really committing to the midriff thing.' The Love Story songstress added, 'I only partially commit to the midriff thing — you're only seeing lower rib cage.' Swift also expressed, 'As far as anyone knows based on my public appearances, they haven't seen evidence of a belly button. It could be pierced. They have no idea. 'If I'm going to get some sort of massive tattoo, it's going to be right next to my belly button because no one's ever going to see that.' In the picture that has recently sent fans into a frenzy, the singer could be seen wearing a sparkling bralette top with a high neck as well as matching bottoms. A bedazzled shawl with fuzzy pieces was draped over her arms as she struck a pose underneath a bright spotlight. Her blonde locks flowed down effortlessly passed her shoulders while a glittering headpiece was placed on top. And on the New Heights podcast last week on Wednesday, Swift also unveiled the cover art for The Life Of A Showgirl, which has 12 songs. On the cover, the songstress could be seen partially immersed in water while donning a bedazzled bodysuit. She gazed toward the camera in the photo, which was taken by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, whom she previously collaborated with in 2017 for her Reputation album. 'I loved what they did with those photos, so I called them up for [this album]. I am so happy with the way the photos came out with this one,' the singer explained on the podcast episode. The star said she is 'so proud' of the LP while adding, 'This is a full send. I care about this record more than I can even overstate.' Swift said that the cover art was meant to show what the 'end of [her] night' looks like after performing on tour. 'My day ends with me in a bathtub — not usually in a bedazzled dress — but we try to keep it decent,' she humorously said, with Kelce sitting next to her. 'I wanted to glamorize all the different aspects of how [the Eras Tour] felt and [the The Life Of A Showgirl cover] is how that felt at the end of the night.' Sabrina Carpenter is featured on the titular track, while other song titles include The Fate Of Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor, Opalite, Father Figure, Eldest Daughter, Ruin The Friendship, Actually Romantic, Wi$h Li$t, Wood, CANCELLED!, and Honey. Swift opted to not work with her previous collaborator Jack Antonoff, but instead co-produced the upcoming album with Max Martin and Shellback. The Grammy winner recalled bringing the album to life and recording tracks amidst her Eras Tour from 2023 through 2024. During brief breaks from touring, she would whisk herself to Sweden where she would work closely with Martin. 'I would do like three shows in a row. I'd have three days off. I'd fly to Sweden, go back to the tour, and was actually working on this. 'I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating,' Swift expressed.

Teddi Mellencamp explains why Brandon Blackstock's death 'really hit me hard' amid her skin cancer battle
For Teddi Mellencamp, the death of Brandon Blackstock from melanoma has hit close to home. The talent manager, who was the ex-husband of Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson, died on August 7, some three years after being diagnosed with the dangerous skin cancer. Mellencamp, 44, opened up about her feelings in the most recent episode of her Two Ts in a Pod podcast with Tamra Judge on Wednesday. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum said Blackstock's death at age 48 'really hit me hard.' 'I wish I would have missed that little detail in the World Wide Web because then I started doing research and they were so quiet about [his diagnosis],' she told listeners. 'I mean, we know he passed from melanoma. They announced that.' 'We're assuming that it had metastasized,' Judge, 57, said to her pal. 'I was wondering, when did it metastasize?,' Mellencamp, who was first diagnosed in March 2022 wondered aloud, adding, 'like this is just where my head goes from being in the situation, did he decline treatment?' 'There's so many different ways that this could have happened,' she explained, adding, 'and like I have one million [percent] respect their choice to keep it private.' Judge suggested the dedicated equestrian could reach out to Clarkson for some more details to be shared privately. Clarkson, who shared children River, 11, and Remington, nine, with Blackstock has not made any public comment regarding his death. Wondering about what kinds of treatment Blackstock received, Mellencamp queried, 'Maybe he did immunotherapy? Maybe he did chemotherapy? We don't know.' 'I don't know, but those kind of stories hit you hard, when it directly sounds similar to something that you're going through,' she said. Mellencamp, who has undergone 16 surgeries since her diagnosis, including the removal of four brain tumors earlier this year. The reality star had four brain tumors removed earlier this year. In an appareance on The Breakfast Club, Pete discussed how the pregnancy had become headline news and how he "felt bad" that Elsie will have to deal with many things publically as a result of being attached to him. Pete was previously engaged to Ariana Grande in 2018 and was Kim Kardashian's first boyfriend after her messy split from long-time husband, Kanye West. Speaking to The Breakfast Club's hosts, Pete said: "I feel bad for my girl because I bring a lot of s***. "Anything I do or she does now is gonna be a thing. "She's a very private person and she's the one doing all the work. It's supposed to be a beautiful experience." Pete went on to say: "She's never made me feel this way or said anything but I feel so guilty and horrible that I could not allow her to have the ideal pregnancy that almost every woman gets to have and enjoy." Pete and Elsie were first linked in March of this year after they were spotted together in Miami. They could be seen packing on the PDA and were quick to make their relationship Instagram official just a week later - three months before confirming their pregnancy to the world. Pete Davidson admits 'I need to get out of my head' after Elsie Hewitt debuts bump ahead of stars welcoming baby Elsie has previously gushed over her love for Pete to People magazine in May when they made their red carpet debut with one another. She told the publication at the time: "He's so incredible. "Honestly, best person I've ever met, and I'm so grateful that he's here tonight." Elsie, 29, first announced the news on Instagram, cheekily captioning the post with "welp, now everyone knows we had sex." She included a sweet video of herself getting an ultrasound, with an accompanying ultrasound image, along with several loved up snaps of herself with the Saturday Night Live alum. A source close to Pete told The U.S. Sun that Elsie is due this winter. As an insider previously revealed to The U.S. Sun, the funnyman and the model/ foodie had both hoped to start a family together. "They've been living together for several months now, and while things seem to be moving fast from an outside perspective, Elsie sees a future with Pete and wants to take things with him to the next level," the insider said at the time. "She very much sees herself having a family with Pete. She loves the way their relationship is going and she envisions bringing children into that equation," the source claimed. They moved in together in a Brooklyn apartment just months after meeting. Pete was engaged to Ariana Grande for six months in 2018 before they split. He went on to enjoy brief romances with Kate Beckinsale, model Kaia Gerber and Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor, the daughter of Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor. Pete was then with Kim Kardashian for ten months between October 2021 and August 2022.
