Marc Marquez seeks elusive first win in Austria
Despite turning up with five consecutive wins he knows he must do something this weekend that he has failed to achieve before in his storied career - win in Spielberg.
"I've been super close many years in Austria," he said.
"I lose always against red (Ducati) bikes but now I'm riding that red bike so let's see if we can fight for that victory" he added.
Since joining Ducati's factory team at the start of the season, Marquez has been almost uncatchable - notching up his fifth straight perfect weekend of sprint and race victories in Brno last month.
He goes into this 13th round of the 22-race campaign a massive 120 points clear of the pack led by his younger brother Alex of Ducati's satellite Gresini team.
Alex is realistically destined for second behind his trailblazing brother.
The younger Marquez is 48 points clear of Francesco Bagnaia on the other Ducati factory bike, who is seeking a fourth straight Spielberg win.
Alex Marquez will have his work cut out because he must serve a long-lap penalty in Sunday's main race after wiping out Honda's Joan Mir in an accident last time at the Czech MotoGP.
"A bigger challenge for us will be to do a perfect weekend to lose the minimum time on the long lap on Sunday," the 29-year-old said.
"You know, trying to be on the front row; trying to make some ground before doing the long lap, all that. So it will be a little bit of strategy."
Marc Marquez bossed practice, topping the first session by three-tenths of a second from Bagnaia, and by two-tenths from Pedro Acosta (KTM) in the afternoon run.
Saturday's qualifying is followed by the 14-lap sprint with the main event 24 hours later.
One rider forced to miss out on the weekend action and the next race in Hungary is Honda LCR' Somkiat Chantra.
The Thai rider is recovering from surgery after sustaining ligament damage in his right knee in training after the Dutch MotoGP, which has already forced him out of races in Germany and Brno.

Kane lauds Diaz's 'perfect start' at Bayern
Kane opened the scoring and Diaz scored Bayern's second in a 2-1 win in the traditional curtain raiser between last season's league and cup champions. Diaz joined Bayern from English champions Liverpool in the summer in a deal which could rise to 75 million euros ($87.8 million). "I think you can see what he brings 1v1," Kane said, saying the Colombia winger was "really sharp, really agile". "I think it's important, especially in this modern football, for the winners to be scoring hopefully 15-20 goals a season. "The goal was a great run, a great finish. "Scoring your first competitive game for a new club is great and for it to be the winning goal is a perfect start for him." After scoring, Diaz ran to the corner flag and replicated Diogo Jota's video game celebration in tribute to his former teammate, who died in July. "Luis obviously played with him and knew him well. I think the whole football world comes together in moments like that. "It was a nice tribute to him and his family and his brother. That whole situation obviously is a sad situation. "The more we can come together and show our love, I think the better." Bayern open the Bundesliga season on Friday at home against RB Leipzig.

Kane and Diaz strike as Bayern beat Stuttgart in German Super Cup
The match, which opens the German season with the league and cup winners facing off, was held for the first time since it was renamed for football legend Franz Beckenbauer, who died in 2024. A year into their attacking partnership, Michael Olise and Kane were again Bayern's most dangerous, combining for the opener with 18 minutes played. Off balance and falling, Kane collected Olise's pass and hit a low shot across the grass and into the bottom corner for his 86th goal in his 97th Bayern appearance. Pushed on by a 60,000-strong home crowd, Stuttgart went looking for an equaliser late in the second half but Bayern broke through on the counter, Diaz heading in from close range with 13 minutes left. Diaz ran to the corner post and sat on the grass, mimicking former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota's video-game celebration. It was the latest tribute for Portugal winger Jota, who died in a car accident in July. Stuttgart pulled a goal back through Jamie Leweling in stoppage time. The win netted Kane a second team trophy of his career after the 32-year-old broke his duck to win the Bundesliga last season. Praising his charges for a "deserved win", Bayern captain Joshua Kimmich said the victory would set the tone for the season. 'To show we're here' "We wanted to show everyone that we're here. Wins and titles are not a given -- we have to appreciate them," Kimmich told Germany's Sat 1 network. The lead-up was dominated by transfer speculation around freshly-minted Germany striker Nick Woltemade, with Stuttgart reportedly rebuffing several Bayern offers. While Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle ruled out a possible transfer moments before the match, on the field Bayern stuck to Woltemade, keeping a lid on the home side's most dangerous attacking threat. Olise created the opener, curling a dangerous chip between Stuttgart's two central defenders. Centre-back Luca Jaquez stuck out his leg only to knock the ball into Kane's path and the England captain expertly hammered home. Olise headed over the bar with 38 minutes played and Kane forced a superb save from Fabian Bredlow midway through the second half. Stuttgart sensed an equaliser with 15 minutes remaining and Woltemade went close, but the 1.98-metre tall striker headed over the bar. Moments later Bayern's veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer saved spectacularly, getting an outstretched arm to a Lewelling shot which took a wicked late deflection. Bayern put the match to bed in the 77th minute, Diaz leaping to head a Gnabry cross past the helpless Bredlow. Leweling headed in a goal in stoppage time but it was not enough as Bayern lifted the Super Cup for a record 10th time. Bayern open the Bundesliga season on Friday at home against Leipzig while Stuttgart face Union Berlin in the German capital a day later.

Barcelona open Liga title defence strolling past nine-man Mallorca
Two of Barcelona's Ballon d'Or nominees combined to put the visitors ahead after seven minutes, Lamine Yamal crossing for Raphinha to head in. Yamal played a key role in the second goal after 23 minutes. Mallorca defender Antonio Raillo headed away the teenager's shot and then fell to the ground. As the referee waved play on and Mallorca failed to clear, the ball fell to Ferran Torres. He fired home from the edge of the box. Manu Morlanes was one of two Mallorca players booked for dissent as they told the referee he should have stopped the game. Ten minutes later, Morlanes received a second yellow for a challenge on the rampant Yamal and was sent off. In the 39th minute, as Barcelona's debutant goalkeeper Joan Garcia jumped to head a ball clear, Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi challenged with his boot so high he planted his studs on Garcia's cheek. Muriqi also saw red. Barcelona strolled through the second half. Coach Hansi Flick brought on summer loan signing Marcus Rashford, whose league registration only cleared on Saturday morning, for his Liga debut. Deep into injury time Yamal sliced through the home defence and curled in the third goal with the final kick of the game.
