Mecole Hardman drops the ball in Packers debut
Hardman, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, made three critical errors and finished with zero catches and zero return yards during the 30-10 loss to the New York Jets.
The mistakes snowballed and directly hurt the Packers in the first half. On his first return, Hardman caught a punt in heavy traffic at the 5-yard line, pinning the Packers' second-team offense deep in its own territory. Two plays later, he dropped a pass on an out route near the sideline, setting up third-and-long and a strip-sack of Malik Willis that resulted in a Jets defensive touchdown. Later in the second quarter, Hardman tried to field a bouncing punt and muffed the catch, resulting in a turnover and three more points for the Jets.
"I have to go back and take a peek at it," coach Matt LaFleur said post-game. "It seems like a pretty routine play that happens more often than not where you can scoop that (bouncing) punt up. I was disappointed with that, but we also can't field a punt at the 5-yard line. Those were obviously two bad decisions."
Hardman's final stat line: one target, zero catches, two punt returns, zero yards.
"I was expecting a better bounce, and it bounced the wrong way and unfortunately it didn't go my way," Hardman said, via Packers.com. "There's nothing really too much to harp on. It's preseason. It's good to get it out of the way now. Could have just let it bounce and let it (the ball) do what it was going to do."
Hardman, who signed a one-year deal this offseason, is competing to be a backup receiver and the primary returner for LaFleur to start the 2025 season. Considering Jayden Reed (foot), Dontayvion Wicks (calf) and Christian Watson (ACL) are recovering from injuries, the Packers could use Hardman's experience at the receiver position. And the team likely doesn't want key starters like Reed and Keisean Nixon handling returns all season. Saturday night's debut wasn't a good start, but Hardman will have two joint practices and two preseason games over the next two weeks to rebound and state his case for a roster spot.

NFL will continue featuring social justice messages including 'End Racism' in end zones
The social justice messages stenciled at the back of NFL end zones appeared as if they might be on their way out after the league did not use "End Racism" on the back line during last season's Super Bowl. However, the NFL will feature these messages again this season including "End Racism," along with 'Stop Hate,' 'Choose Love,' or 'Inspire Change" on one of the back lines. The opposite end zone in every NFL game will have the message "It Takes All of Us." Before Super Bowl LIX in February, the NFL's decision fueled speculation that removing the "End Racism" slogan from the rotation of messages was intended to appease President Donald Trump and his initiatives against diversity, equity and inclusion programs and policies in the federal government and higher education. Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to watch a Super Bowl in person, invited as a guest of New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson. Last season's Super Bowl featured "Choose Love" at the back of one end zone and "It Takes All of Us" in the other. Leading up to the game, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy denied that the decision had anything to do with Trump. And when the story about the end zone stencils was originally reported by The Athletic, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he was "proud" of the league's efforts to promote diversity. 'We got into diversity efforts because we felt it was the right thing for the National Football League,' Goodell told The Athletic's Michael Silver. 'And we're going to continue those efforts, because we've not only convinced ourselves we've proven it to ourselves — it does make the NFL better.' "End Racism" will be on the back of one end zone for every one of the NFL's international games this season, with "It Takes All of Us" on the other back line. The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will have "Choose Love" on one of their end zones when they open the season versus the Dallas Cowboys, the AP reports. However, the team will rotate all four of the social justice messages during the season. "End Racism" has been stenciled on NFL end zones since 2020 as part of the league's "Inspire Change" initiative, in which the four social justice messages (which initially included "Vote" in place of "Inspire Change") were featured in response to the protests throughout the country following the murder of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis. "Choose Love" was added in 2022, resonating especially with the Buffalo Bills and their fans after a mass shooting at a Buffalo supermarket. In addition to the social justice messages along the end zone back lines, the NFL will also promote charitable campaigns including Salute to Service to honor the military community and Crucial Catch for cancer research in its end zones during select weeks through the season.

Packers' Josh Jacobs ranks No. 33 on NFL's 'Top 100' list
Another group of the NFL's "Top 100" players has been released as the regular season rushes closer and Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is ranked the 33rd best player in the league. Is he rated high enough? His 1,671 total yards from scrimmage last season suggest he may not be getting enough credit from his peers in the NFL players' vote for both his versatility and workload. Jacobs ran for 1,329 yards last season and 15 of his 16 touchdowns were on the ground. However, he also had a career-high 36 catches for 342 yards, averaging 9.5 yards a reception. Those numbers show elite playmaking ability. More than half of Jacobs' rushing yards last season were after contact. He was the fourth Packer to rush for at least 13,000 yards in a season. The others are Ahman Green, Jim Taylor and Dorsey Levens. Jacobs did not appear among the top 100 players prior to the 2024 season, but was ranked the 13th best player in prior to 2023. He joins fellow Packers Jordan Love and Rashan Gary in the 2025 top 100. This article originally appeared on Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Packers' Josh Jacobs ranked No. 33 on NFL's 'Top 100' list

Kareem Hunt fires back on savage Patrick Mahomes gesture
The post Kareem Hunt fires back on savage Patrick Mahomes gesture appeared first on ClutchPoints. During a Kansas City Chiefs practice, QB Patrick Mahomes attempted to dunk over RB Kareem Hunt playfully. It was some light-hearted teasing amid a highly charged practice in preparation for the season. Afterward, Hunt responded to Mahomes on social media in the most playful way imaginable. Essentially, Hunt called out Mahomes' jumping abilities. 'There's a reason we have on football jersey you don't have that in you!' Hunt said. Some jovial banter to contrast the recent skirmish during training camp, Travis Kelce had to break up. Much like Kelce, Hunt is eyeing another shot at the Super Bowl. The Chiefs are looking to redeem themselves after their blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. Altogether, the Chiefs are still one of the best teams in the NFL. The core group of Mahomes, Kelce, and Hunt remains intact and has much to look forward to. As for Hunt, he rushed for 728 yards and had seven touchdowns on 200 carries in 13 games. He's been in the NFL for eight years. In 2017, Hunt was drafted by the Chiefs and had a brief stint with the Cleveland Browns from 2019 to 2023, before returning to the Chiefs in 2024. The Chiefs' offensive dynamic duo In many ways, Mahomes and Hunt feed well off one another. Upon Hunt's return to the Chiefs, Mahomes saw it as an opportunity for him to get back to form. Furthermore, Mahomes, along with coach Andy Reid, celebrated it as an example of redemption. In 2018, Hunt was cut from the team due to domestic violence. Over time, both have developed a strong friendship, with Hunt even attending Mahomes' wedding to Brittney Matthews in 2022. It's safe to say that their friendship has only gotten stronger since Hunt came back to Kansas City. If all goes well, that bond will translate into on-field success.
