Indian tablet PC market grows 20% in Q2; Apple leads with 30% share

According to the CyberMedia Research (CMR) Tablet PC India Market latest report, Apple's iPad supplies in the Indian market grew 10 per cent year-on-year in the June 2025 quarter Press Trust of India New Delhi India tablet PC market grew 20 per cent year-on-year in the June 2025 quarter, with Apple cornering almost one-third market share, CyberMedia Research said in a report. According to the CyberMedia Research (CMR) Tablet PC India Market latest report, Apple's iPad supplies in the Indian market grew 10 per cent year-on-year in the June 2025 quarter. "Apple maintained the leading position in India's tablet market in Q2 2025, with a market share of 30 per cent supported by a 78 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 10 per cent year-on-year growth. "This performance was driven by strong demand for the newly launched iPad 11 Series, which accounted for 70 per cent of Apple's total shipments during the quarter, alongside improved availability across both online and offline channels," the report said. Samsung followed Apple as its supplies grew by 15 per cent year-on-year, clocking 27 per cent market share during the reported quarter. "The company's broad portfolio enabled it to sustain performance across both affordable and enterprise segments. The Galaxy Tab A9 Plus 5G was the primary contributor, representing 81 per cent of Samsung's tablet shipments during the quarter," the report said. Lenovo's market share remained flat at 16 per cent year-on-year, despite an 18 per cent growth in tablet PC supplies to the Indian market. Xiaomi and OnePlus registered high growth of 81 per cent and 95 per cent, clocking 15 per cent and 6 per cent market share, respectively. "The strong double-digit growth in the value-for-money segment highlights robust demand from students, gig workers, and value-conscious users seeking reliable performance, and new compelling Android value-for-money tablets from brands, such as Xiaomi and OnePlus. "Meanwhile, the premium segment, led by Apple and Samsung, is seeing heightened traction from professionals and ecosystem loyalists, who prioritise seamless integration, security, and superior experience," CMR Senior Analyst, Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), Menka Kumari said. CMR projected a steady 10-15 per cent growth for the tablet market in 2025. "India's tablet market momentum is clearly shifting toward 5G-enabled premium and value-for-money Android tablets, delivering enhanced productivity and entertainment. As we move into the festive quarter, a traditionally strong period for consumer electronics, CMR's analysis points to a sustained momentum and consistent growth, driven by demand from both urban centres and the expanding base of aspirational India," Kumari said. BSNL joins Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea, soft launches eSIM services in Tamil Nadu circle

NEW DELHI: State-controlled telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Friday soft-launched its eSIM services in the Tamil Nadu circle, joining the league of its private sector rivals Reliance Jio , Bharti Airtel , and Vodafone Idea (Vi) that already commercially offer these services nationwide. BSNL said the eSIM service will enable customers to activate mobile connections without a physical SIM on compatible smartphones and wearables, adding that it will be rolled out nationwide in a phased manner. The telecom PSU has nearly 9 crore mobile users. The eSIM will enable remote provisioning via secure QR code, while digital know-your-customer (KYC) at BSNL customer service centres will facilitate quick onboarding. The eSIM can be used alongside a physical SIM in supported devices, said BSNL, adding that the service works in leading devices, including recent models from major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). BSNL CMD Robert J Ravi said the eSIM launch underscores BSNL's commitment to secure, future-ready connectivity and Digital India, bringing customers instant, SIM-less activation, dual-SIM flexibility, and improved security versus plastic SIMs. During the soft-launch phase, customers can visit the nearest BSNL customer service centre with an eSIM-capable device and a valid ID; BSNL staff will complete digital KYC and issue a one-time QR code to download the eSIM profile. Existing users may migrate from physical SIM to eSIM, and new customers can opt in directly. Earlier, Gopal Vittal, vice-chairman and managing director, Bharti Airtel, had urged the telco's subscribers to use eSIM, citing that its eSIM can enable seamless connectivity on all devices, and also make it easier for users to track their stolen smartphones. 'We at Airtel want to do everything we can to ensure that you have as convenient and efficient a connectivity experience as possible,' Vittal had said. London-based telco group GSMA, in a whitepaper, earlier said that eSIMs enable telcos to expand their business into emerging markets, such as automotive, wearables, and consumer electronics, while eliminating SIM card distribution costs and creating new distribution models for devices and for marketing of subscriptions. The adoption of eSIMs has, however, been limited to some high-end Android smartphones and Apple devices, and premium smartwatches with the ecosystem being largely fragmented.

Google's Find Hub Feature Will Soon Work Without Wi-Fi Or Mobile Network: Here's How

Google's location tracking for Android devices could soon work beyond the network regions and help people avoid getting stranded. Google is going to make its Find device network work better with a new upgrade coming in the next few months. The company rebranded the tool to Find Hub earlier this year and soon it will work even without any Wi-Fi or network in the region. Yes, Google is highly expected to offer satellite support for its device location tracking feature and it should be rolling out for everyone in the near future. But the details about the upgraded tool have been spotted recently and highlighted in a report as well. Satellite tracking makes these features extremely useful, especially when people head over to no-network areas. Find Hub is essentially the same Find my device network in a rebranded fashion from Google. The satellite upgrade has been mentioned by Android Authority that has found some clues about its usability and purpose. It does seem like Google could have it available for everyone soon. Find Hub via satellite is going to help you in remote places and allow others to know your position, especially if you get stranded somewhere without a mobile network. Google had recently made Find My work offline and this will also be equally useful for many users. The report says the satellite feature will not give you immediate position but ping the point of the device every 15 minutes. It also is going to work when the user enables it from the settings and the feature will work in the background, so that others don't know how the tracking is still active to keep their location private. Satellite-based services are not cheap. We are keen to see if Google plans to limit its support to the premium devices (or just Pixels for now) and eventually make it a paid feature. The Pixel 10 series is launching next week and it does seem quite premature to assume Google could share something about the new updates at the event, but going by the tests being done at the code level on the Find Hub app, its public availability might be not far away now. view comments First Published: August 15, 2025, 15:23 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
