Del Toro stays in pink at Giro d'Italia after first of two massive mountain showdowns

CHAMPOLUC, Italy (AP) — One down, one to go.
Isaac Del Toro maintained his tight grip on the Giro d'Italia pink jersey on Friday, the first of two massive alpine days.
Del Toro even managed to increase his advantage slightly as the Mexican rider edged closest challenger Richard Carapaz to claim second place on the 19th stage and precious bonus seconds.
The duo crossed the line 58 seconds behind Nicolas Prodhomme, who claimed the biggest victory of his career on the Queen stage.
Del Toro inched to 43 seconds ahead of Carapaz overall. Simon Yates remained third but slipped to one minutes, 22 seconds behind Del Toro.
The stage featured 5,000 meters of elevation across five climbs — three of which were of the highest classification — on a 166-kilometer (103-mile) route from Biella to Champoluc.
Prodhomme was part of a large breakaway right at the start of the stage, and he pulled clear of the remaining escapees on the penultimate climb up the Col de Joux to solo to victory.
The French cyclist had a broad smile on his face as he approached the finish and he then sat up and stretched out his arms before putting his hands over his face, in disbelief, as he crossed the line.
The winner of the Giro will almost certainly be decided in another mountain showdown on Saturday before the mostly ceremonial finish in Rome the following day.
The penultimate stage is a 205-kilometer (127-mile) leg from Verres to Sestriere that features the beyond-category climb on a gravel road to Colle delle Finestre, where Chris Froome's audacious attack in 2018 earned him the title.

Federico Chiesa insists he is at happy at Liverpool despite frustrating season

Federico Chiesa insists he would be happy to stay at Liverpool despite a frustrating first season at the club. The Italian forward moved to Merseyside from Juventus in a £10million deal last summer but found first-team opportunities limited. He scored two goals in 14 appearances and made just one Premier League start in the penultimate game of the season, when the title was already won. Advertisement Chiesa, 27, was used as the sixth-choice attacking option by Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, with the club planning to bolster their forward line this summer. Despite that, Chiesa believes there will be an opportunity for him to impress next season. In an interview with Corriere dello Sport he said: 'The year is over. But it's an experience I would do again. Soon I will sit down at the table with the club, Fali (Ramadani, his agent) and my family to find the best solution. I wouldn't mind staying in Liverpool at all.' Chiesa admits he experienced 'many difficulties' when he first arrived at Anfield, including injury issues that restricted his availability shortly after joining. In the interview, he referenced the difficulty of trying to dislodge the Premier league's top goalscorer, Mohamed Salah, and break into a side in top form. 'In the autumn Liverpool were going three times as fast as the others, an incredible intensity,' he said. 'At the beginning I felt the frustration… The desire to play was there, I put it aside, I understood the situation.' Chiesa added that Slot has always been respectful and played down suggestions that a move to Napoli — or any other Italian club — is close, despite reports linking him with a return to Serie A. 'I read that they placed me everywhere, but I had no direct contact with anyone,' he said. Liverpool have already signed Jeremie Frimpong and are in discussions to bring in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. (Robbie Jay Barratt – AMA/Getty Images)

Antonio Marras Resort 2026 Collection

What makes Antonio Marras a unique presence in fashion is his ability to tell stories imbued with visceral authenticity.'Flying over Porto Conte with Antoine and Consuelo' is a journey that begins and ends in Alghero, the Sardinian city where the Marras family has its roots. 'This land is an inexhaustible source of richness, always offering stories we can draw from,' the designer said. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry—the famous French writer and aviator—spent the final months of his life in Alghero, and Marras's resort collection was born from imagining that his beloved wife Consuelo Suncín-Sandoval Zeceña de Gómez joined him there by air, flying the very same aircraft her husband used during his missions. A Salvadoran writer, painter, sculptor, and artist, she studied art in San Francisco. In Mexico, she met Diego Rivera; in Paris, she spent time with André Breton, Marcel Duchamp, Balthus, Max Ernst, and Picasso. Salvador Dalí was one of her dearest friends. In the United States, she opened her home to Ingrid Bergman, Jean Gabin, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, and Jean Renoir. She was the inspiration for The Little Prince, and in this collection, Marras imagined the wardrobe she would have packed for a journey to an island where the wind tousles your hair. Embodying the romanticism of a vaguely dandyish femininity, the collection takes shape through embroidered pinstripes, damask fabrics, and plaid cottons; rubberized flowers and aged-effect leathers; sculpted silhouettes, hidden pleats, and balloon volumes; faded denim, kimonos, and sheer fabrics. Faux furs are made of silk, knitwear is adorned with appliqués evoking a starry sky or worked in jacquard depicting a postcard of the dome of San Michele in Alghero, while patchworks of floral prints recall the island's wild flora. The colors reflect a landscape seen from above, where nature spreads across the warm tones of the earth and the airy blues of the sky; a bordeaux shade stitches it all together.
