
PH, Lao PDR discuss cooperation in defense, economy, education
KUALA LUMPUR - President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday tackled defense, economic, and education cooperation with Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
The two leaders had a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Malaysia, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a briefing before the Philippine media delegation.
They also discussed the contribution of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Lao PDR, particularly in the field of architecture and language training. —RF, GMA Integrated News

At a meeting with Cebu mayors on Tuesday, Garcia questioned the recently concluded May polls, saying the results of the Cebu gubernatorial race 'did not reflect the honest will of the people.' 'We filed an electoral protest,' said Garcia. 'We hope that the Comelec will act with dispatch on this electoral protest and we have, as a sign of good faith to all of you mayors, we have decided to contest all of the clustered precincts and that's over 4,100. Why? Because as I said, I truly believe that the results for the gubernatorial election here in Cebu did not reflect the honest will of the people,' she added. Garcia, who served as Cebu governor from 2004, lost in the recent gubernatorial race, lagging behind closest rival Pam Baricuatro, who won with 1,107,728 votes. The outgoing official garnered 764,884 votes. Independent bet Valeriano Gingco garnered 33,545 votes. Meanwhile, Garcia's running mate Glenn Soco won as Cebu vice-governor with 1,089,957 votes. Robin Padilla wants Freddie Aguilar declared as national artist
Senator Robinhood Padilla has filed a proposed resolution seeking to declare late musician Freddie Aguilar as a national artist. In filing proposed Senate Resolution (SR) No. 1364, Padilla cited Aguilar's significant contributions to the Philippine music and culture and said he should be honored in accordance with Sec. 15, Art. XIV of the Constitution, as well as Presidential Proclamation 1001. "Ferdinand Pascual Aguilar, also known as Freddie Aguilar, who was born on Feb. 5, 1953, rose to fame in the late 1970s for his powerful and heartfelt compositions using folk rhythms and kundiman music," Padilla said in his resolution. "Given his achievements and contributions, Freddie Aguilar must be considered by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) for recommendation to the President as one of the country's national artists," he added. Freddie Aguilar succumbed to multiple organ failure. He was 72. The Filipino singer and songwriter was survived by Jovie, and his four children from his previous marriage: Maegan, Jonan, Isabella and Jeriko. Regarded as one of the pillars and icons of OPM (Original Pilipino Music), Aguilar is best known for his hit song 'Anak' which became an international hit and was translated into 51 languages. Marcos creates task force for PH hosting of Asia-Pacific scout jamboree
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has ordered the creation of an Inter-Agency Task Force, which will support the country's preparation, organization, and hosting of the 33rd Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree (APRSJ). The Philippines, through the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, is set to host the 33rd APRSJ from December 14 to 21, 2025 at Kainomayan Scout Camp in Botolan, Zambales. The theme of the event is "Be Prepared: Scouts for Peace and Sustainable Development.'' Marcos' Administrative Order No. 33 states that the Task Force shall support the BSP in the formulation and implementation of programs, activities and projects, as well as in the organization and management of the requirements for the hosting of the 33rd APRSJ. It will also ensure coordination and collaboration with other departments, bureaus, offices, agencies and instrumentalities of the government, including GOCCs and SUCs, regarding programs, activities and projects for the preparation, organization and hosting of the 33rd APRSJ. The AO indicates that the amounts necessary for the implementation of the said order shall be charged against available appropriations of concerned agencies, subject to existing budgeting, accounting, and auditing laws, rules and regulations. The APRSJ is a major scouting event in the Asia-Pacific region, which seeks to provide opportunity for scouts aged 12 to 17 to experience fellowship of world scouting in a fun and learning environment. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
