Parents of 18-year-old killed in car crash earlier this week speak out about loss and road safety
UTAH () —An 18-year-old tragically lost his life earlier this week in a car crash, and his loss is felt by many, including his parents. July 8th is a date that changed everything for Austin and Starling Knight. Utah Highway Patrol says their son, 18-year-old Bo Knight, died after losing control while driving north on state Route 68 near mile marker 14 in southern Utah County. 'He got too fast, he's not making the corner and gets too far and goes across the line and is now on the other shoulder of the road, he has his seat belt on and there's a big power pole he just missed as he tried to bring it back over,' Austin Knight said. Starling Knight says she is doing whatever she can to feel close to him again. 'His room is right across from ours, and I've slept in it the last couple of nights, and just he's not there, and so to see that empty room, you miss just seeing your child,' Knight said. Bo was gearing up to go to Mountainland Technical College to pursue a career in the medical field. His parents said he was spunky, had a heart of gold, and was passionate about dancing and gymnastics. His mom said he was a peacemaker in the household and that he had a giving heart. His dad said he was a friend to all, and he would be the first to stick up for anyone who was being unfairly judged His parents are using their unimaginable loss to encourage others to be safe on the roads, saying speed and distraction are killers. While Bo's parents continue to grieve, his dad said one thing will always remain true, 'We just love him, and we hope he knows how much he was loved'. ‘Magic mushrooms' and over 10 firearms seized from house in Iron County
CEDAR CITY, Utah () — Agents with a southern Utah narcotics task force seized a number of firearms and drugs from an alleged 'clandestine laboratory' in Iron County Wednesday morning. Matthew Joseph Metcalf, 45, was booked in the Iron County Jail on 13 charges felonies ranging from drug distribution, operation of a clandestine laboratory, dangerous weapon conduct, and endangering a child. Agents with the Iron-Garfield-Beaver Narcotics Task Force began investigating Metcalf after seizing a cell phone that was used to arrange a number of psilocybin mushroom sales over the past few months, charging documents say. One specialty license plate earned nearly 30% of Utah's license plate revenue in two years — Can you guess which one? Also known as 'magic mushrooms,' psilocybin mushrooms have been known to cause users to experience distorted sights and sounds while also causing them to lose their sense of time and space, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Before executing a search warrant at Metcalf's residence, agents requested assistance from the Iron Metro SWAT team. During the search, agents say they found a small, hidden dark room which was being used to grow psilocybin mushrooms. Agents also reported having found jars with mushroom spores. Police say two juveniles under the age of 10 were present in the home. One of which was found sleeping in the bedroom next to the laboratory. During the search, court documents say agents also recovered 10 rifles and one pistol that were located in a shed. It's unclear exactly where the seizure took place. However, records obtained by indicate Metcalf has a Post Office box in Parowan, Utah. He is currently being held without bail in the Iron County Jail.
