Singapore has ordered Facebook parent Meta to block Singaporeans' access to posts made by three foreigners accused of trying to influence a national election early next month on racial and religious lines. Two of the people whose posts were blocked rejected the accusations. The Infocomm Media Development Authority issued the orders after some posts by the foreigners were deemed as "intended to promote or prejudice the electoral success or standing of a political party or candidate", the Elections Department and Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement on Friday. The Southeast Asian city-state's election on May 3, the first under the social media rules put in place by the government in 2023, is almost certain to be dominated by the People's Action Party , which has won the most seats in every vote since independence in 1965.The rules bar foreigners from publishing online election advertising, which it defines as online materials that could help or hurt any political parties or candidates.Friday's statement identified the foreigners as Iskandar Abdul Samad, national treasurer of the Islamist party Parti Islam Se-Malaysia; Mohamed Sukri Omar, the party's youth chief in the Malaysian state of Selangor; and Facebook user "Zai Nal", identified as Zulfikar bin Mohamad Shariff, an Australian who renounced his Singapore citizenship in 2020.Iskandar had expressed support for the opposition Workers' Party 's Faisal Manap in a social media post. The authorities found that Zulfikar had accused Malay-Muslim members of parliament of failing to represent Muslim interests, saying Singapore did not need another Malay MP who did not represent their views. Sukri had reposted Zulfikar's post. The government said their posts interfered with domestic politics and influenced citizens to vote on racial and religious lines. In a Facebook post on Saturday about the takedowns, Sukri stated that he never intended to interfere with Singapore's elections."My calls and concerns were never aimed at intervening in the electoral affairs, but rather stem from my moral responsibility as a Muslim and as a person deeply concerned for the plight of the Malay-Muslim community in Singapore, a community increasingly marginalized in various aspects, whether in education, economy, or cultural freedom," he said.Zulfikar, responding to the takedown request, posted on Facebook that the action shows the ruling PAP and its supporters were "scared" and that "desperation reeks". He said he was creating a WhatsApp channel and another website to advocate for issues. The opposition Workers' Party said in a statement on Saturday that it does not have control over foreign parties who express support for its candidates. It said Faisal has spoken about how religion needs to be "kept aside, or apart from politics, so that religion will not be used to gain personal benefit or to benefit any political party".The PAP did not immediately offer a comment. Meta, Iskandar, and the Parti Islam Se-Malaysia did not respond to requests for comment.

'Go after them and their families': Islamist terror leader calls for assassination of Donald Trump, JD Vance in 30-minute rant; watch video

(Photo: X) An Islamist terror group leader has released a disturbing video calling for the assassination of US President Donald Trump , Vice President JD Vance, and several top advisers. He said their strong support for Israel was the reason behind the threat, according to the New York Post. The Yemen-based figure is Sa'ad bin Atef al-Awlaki, who is the leader of al-Qa'ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). In a disturbing 34‑minute video titled 'Inciting the Believers', released on Sunday, the terror leader urged American Muslims to 'take revenge' and strike at those he called 'infidel Americans'. He named Trump, Vance, as well as figures like Secretary of State Marco Rubio , Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and billionaire Elon Musk . 'Go after them and their families and all those who have any ties or are close to the politicians of the White House,' al‑Awlaki said. He further said, 'There are no red lines after what has been happening to our people in Gaza,' and endorsed recent antisemitic attacks and prior assassination attempts on Trump, according to security sources. The video also includes a broader incitement of violence against Jewish people in the US. 'Do not leave a single safe place for Jews — just as they have not left any homes, shelters, or respite for the Palestinians,' al‑Awlaki said. 'Even hospitals are being bombed … Take revenge.' Al‑Awlaki became head of AQAP in March 2024 and has a $6 million US bounty on his head offered by the State Department. AQAP is officially designated a foreign terrorist organisation by the US government. The Associated Press reported that al‑Awlaki's video was his first since assuming leadership and also urged lone‑wolf attacks targeting leaders in Egypt, Jordan and Gulf states over the Gaza conflict. According to analysts, AQAP appears to be trying to regain prominence amid growing tensions in Gaza and rising influence of the Iran‑backed Houthi movement in Yemen.

‘Named After Most-Wanted Criminal': BJP MP Urges Railway Minister To Rename Station In Aligarh

Last Updated: He also pointed out that the station was established in 1894 and questioned the rationale for its current name, emphasising that no nearby Muslim settlement supports it The demand to rename the Daud Khan Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh district is gaining momentum. BJP MP Satish Gautam has written a letter to the Railway Minister urging that the station be renamed after Maharana Pratap. In his letter, Gautam stated that Daud Khan has no historical connection to Aligarh and is known as a most-wanted criminal in the country. He argued that it is inappropriate for a railway station to bear the name of someone considered an enemy of the nation. According to a report in TOI, in his letter to the a letter to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, a copy of which was accessed by The Times of India, BJP MP Satish Gautam argued that the Daud Khan railway station holds no historical or geographical relevance to the region. He noted that there is neither a village by that name in the vicinity nor any known historical connection. Citing public sentiment, Gautam urged that the station be renamed after Maharana Pratap Singh, whom he described as a revered national figure with significant contributions to Indian history. He also pointed out that, as per local accounts, the station was established in 1894 and questioned the rationale for its current name, emphasising that no nearby Muslim settlement supports it. Justifying his demand, Gautam said the name 'Daud' is linked to a terrorist responsible for the deaths of many innocent people. First Published: June 11, 2025, 09:13 IST
