Serbian sharpshooter commits to Indiana basketball

The Indiana basketball team picked up an intriguing commitment on Monday as Serbian guard Aleksa Ristic announced that he will come to the United States to play for the Hoosiers. Ristic was born in 2005, so his freshman year would've been back in 2023 if he started college at 18 like most college basketball players. Ristic has been playing professionally in Serbia in the Serbian KLS league, but he is now making the move to college basketball. This is a big get for new head coach Darian DeVries.

'NEWS: Serbian 6-foot-4 guard Aleksa Ristic has committed to Indiana, @Agency55NIL tells @On3Recruits,' Joe Tipton said in a post. 'The 19-year-old will join the Hoosiers for the upcoming season. An elite shooter, Ristic most recently played for KK Dynamic, a top professional club in Serbia, where he averaged 13.8 PPG on nearly 39% from three.'
This is such an important pickup for Darian DeVries and the Indiana basketball team because of the experience that Aleksa Ristic brings to the table. This isn't like a typical high schooler coming in for a freshman season, this is a player with professional experience, and Ristic has excelled during his time playing in Serbia. He is the kind of player that can come in and make an immediate impact, and his three-point shooting ability will especially be big.
The pressure is going to be on DeVries during his first season at Indiana as this fan base is desperate to see some success. So far, he is having a good offseason as he has brought in some good experienced talent like Aleksa Ristic. Players like him should help alleviate some of the pressure that he will feel during year one.
Indiana didn't experience a lot of success under head coach Mike Woodson, and it was disappointing as the Hoosiers were always expected to be one of the best teams in the Big Ten. Now, a new era is underway for the program, and Indiana fans are hoping that it goes a lot better.

Caitlin Clark breaks own record with one-of-a-kind rookie card auction sell

Caitlin Clark continued her record-setting ways this week. As the Indiana Fever star guard continues to navigate back from a right groin injury, Clark had reason to smile on Thursday night. In the latest illustration of her superstardom, Clark reset her own off-the-court record. On Thursday, one of Clark's rookie cards sold for $660,000 on the Fanatics Collect auction site. It's by far the most ever paid for a women's sports card and it's nearly twice the amount garnered by the previous record holder, which was similarly a Clark rookie card. The new top seller is the 2024 Panini Instant Rookie Royalty WNBA Flawless Platinum Caitlin Clark Logowoman. It features a photo of Clark and a game-worn patch from her Fever uniform. The 1-of-1 numbered, autographed rookie card also has the written message "769 points and counting," referencing Clark's WNBA rookie record number of points scored. This record-setting card garnered 26 bids after extended bidding began at $336,000. It resets the record books after Clark's autographed 2024 Panini Prizm WNBA Gold Vinyl 1/1 was auctioned by Goldin for a then-record $366,000. Before that, the record amount garnered by a women's sports card was the $266,400 paid three years ago for a signed 2003 Serena Williams card. Indiana Fever update Caitlin Clark injury status, availability vs New York Liberty

With the 2025 WNBA All-Star break concluded, the Indiana Fever provided an injury status update to star Caitlin Clark ahead of their Tuesday night game against the New York Liberty from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Clark, who suffered a right groin injury late in the Fever's July 15 victory over the Connecticut Sun, missed Indiana's blowout loss against the Liberty last Wednesday and opted out of All-Star weekend to focus on her recovery. According to coach Stephanie White, the Fever do not anticipate Clark being available when they take the floor in Brooklyn on Tuesday. "I haven't seen C (Clark) since the game last night, but I think she's progressing. I think that we're continuing to address everything that needs to be addressed. She's going to see some doctors and get some more tests done early in the week. "I don't expect her to be available on Tuesday, so we're just going to continue to take it one day at a time and let her get her evaluation early this week. Once we've done that, hopefully we'll have more of a clear mind of what it looks like," White said of Clark's status. With Clark most likely unavailable for Indiana, the team will need to rely heavily on Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston to bear the load on offense and get contributions off the bench. Indiana's Tuesday night clash with New York will tip off at 7 p.m. CT and will be carried on ESPN. Caitlin Clark comments on injury treatment during All-Star Game weekend

In a joint press conference alongside fellow 2025 WNBA All-Star Game team captain Napheesa Collier, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark discussed how she has dealt with her right groin injury amid the midseason event. Clark's recent setback occurred late in Indiana's 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun on July 15, four games after returning from a left groin injury that had kept the guard out of the lineup from June 24 to July 9. While Clark was voted as an All-Star team captain by the fans and later named a participant in the 3-point contest, the former Hawkeye announced on Thursday that she would skip both events to focus on her injury recovery. When asked how the two-time WNBA All-Star has been dealing with her injury recovery during her now extended break, Clark said she has been trying to balance treatment with social events with fellow All-Stars this weekend. "Yeah, I mean, certainly unfortunate and I feel like there's been quite a few injuries over the course of the beginning of the season for quite a few people. So, a lot of people in the same boat as myself and even my (All-Star Game) team has dealt with some injuries tonight, so some people will be on just a couple minutes here and there and we'll make do with what we have. Hopefully, to beat Phee. "I mean, I'm not going to say I've just been getting around-the-clock treatment. I've been still trying to enjoy this weekend, having a balance of that at the same time, and soaking all of this in. Once tomorrow comes around, we'll completely shift my focus to getting as healthy as possible. Just prioritizing that (recovery), but also having a good time has been important for myself too," Clark said. While Indiana has been able to find a sense of consistency by winning three of their last four games before the All-Star break, the Fever are still significantly different without Clark on the floor, with more scoring needed from stars like Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard. Although the Clark and the Fever have revealed very little information on the specifics of the groin injury, Indiana hopes she can make strides through injury treatment over the weekend and into next week to have the former Hawkeye back on the floor soon. Entering the All-Star break, Indiana resides in third place in the Eastern Conference with a 12-11 record. Their next game is Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT the Barclays Center in Brooklyn against the New York Liberty.
