RUBEN AMORIM is ready to get tough with his Manchester United flops as he chases a flying start next season.
The Red Devils boss wants to take a hardline pre-season approach in his quest to turn his 'chokers' into Champions League material, with jobs — including his own — on the line.

Ruben Amorim is preparing for a complete reset at Manchester United
And the Portuguese is determined that a lack of fitness will not be an excuse for his squad, in the wake of a disastrous campaign last time out — the club's worst since the relegation season of 1973-74.
SunSport understands Amorim has delivered a list of instructions to ensure United are in top shape for the new Prem season, which starts on the weekend of August 16.
It is believed non-international players could return to the club's Carrington HQ earlier than normal, with a suggestion some may be back training by the end of THIS month.
Amorim wants fitness levels to be sky high, demanding that players hit personal bests by mid-July.

And if they fail to achieve those targets then they face being sidelined from his United revolution.
Boss Amorim has also told his squad they need to be fitter than ever because he wants them to be all over their opponents 'like white on rice' from day one next season.
It is understood Amorim has even quizzed his players on where they are going on holiday as he looks to shake up his failing squad and leave nothing to chance.
United finished 15th in the Prem and also lost in the Europa League final to Tottenham — meaning there will be no European football at Old Trafford next season.

Amorim — who initially did not want to join United from Sporting last November as he feared mid- season turbulence — needs an upturn in results and performance quickly, so he is focusing on an intense pre-season programme to get his men up to speed from the kick-off.
He is also keen to capitalise on rivals Manchester City and Chelsea having a disrupted start to the new Prem season should they go deep into the revamped Club World Cup this summer, with the final on July 13.
Ruben Amorim vows 'good days are coming' after 'disaster season' as Man Utd flops give him daggers during public apology
A club source said: 'Amorim needs a good pre-season. He's not shied away from the pressure he's under.
'He would have always preferred to have arrived at United ahead of a new season rather than in the middle of it.
'He has to get this right. He's told the players there are no more excuses. His job is on the line — and so too is theirs.
'The club can't accept any more failures.'
Amorim is well aware of the pressure building and the scrutiny on his own position, never mind his players.
His side suffered an embarrassing 1-0 loss to the ASEAN All-Stars before a 3-1 win over Hong Kong on their two-game post-season tour to Asia.
Amorim slammed his players after the first game as "chokers" after they were booed off by Far East fans.

United face a big summer of transfer activity
Following the second game on Friday, Amorim was asked if he had a summer message for his players — and hinted he feared for the condition of his stars during their time away from the club.
He replied: 'I was a player and you can disconnect. They know that we under-performed badly this season.
'The important thing for me is the body composition, the weight and the training — they need to be ready.
'We have to use every minute in every week of the pre-season. So we need to arrive in shape.
'These small things, they have all the measures. We had a briefing about that. It's the only way to take action to be better next season.
'They know, everyone knows that the next year is going to be massive for everybody.
'I have been sending messages every week and they know next year, it is clear that we need to be so much better.'
United face a big summer of transfer activity.

Bruno Fernandes could leave for Saudi Arabia this summer
Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans have all left on free transfers, while the future of captain Bruno Fernandes hangs in the balance.
Amorim is closing in on a £62.5million deal for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, while he has lined up Sporting's Pedro Goncalves as a potential replacement for Fernandes if he takes the £100m offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho is not in Amorim's plans next season and is free to leave.
United begin their preparations with a friendly against Prem new boys Leeds in Stockholm on July 19.
Then the Red Devils are heading over to the USA for matches against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton, before finishing a punishing pre-season schedule against Italian side Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9.

Chelsea's Conference League prize money shows cost of Villa and Forest failure
Chelsea were named Europa Conference League champions this season after dominating the competition, but the prize money they earned exposes the true profitability of the Champions League Chelsea's prize for winning the Europa Conference League has been exposed by the much more lucrative Champions League purse. The revelation rubs salt into the wounds of those who just missed out on qualifying for UEFA's elite club competition this campaign: Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest. The final day of the Premier League season was defined by the battle for Champions League football, with Manchester City, Newcastle, Chelsea, Villa and Forest all in with a shout of nabbing one of three spots up for grabs. Pep Guardiola's side had the simplest job, only realistically needing a draw to stamp their ticket. They did just that after a 2-0 away win against Fulham. With both the Blues and Nuno Espirito Santo's men facing one another on the final day, the winner would be guaranteed Champions League football. A 50th-minute Levi Colwill tap-in meant that the visitors returned from their trip to the Midlands happy, and finish in fourth thanks to a 1-0 win, starving the home side of an elite European return. In light of the Villans' 2-0 loss to Manchester United, which came under controversial circumstances after the decision to disallow a Morgan Rogers strike saw a complaint written to the PGMOL, Newcastle took the final place despite losing to Everton. The lucrative prize money associated with playing in the Champions League, which both Forest and Villa narrowly missed out on, has now been highlighted via a statistic involving the Europa Conference League winners and Slovan Bratislava, the team that finished just one place above the bottom of the elite competition's table this time around. Chelsea were rewarded with a reported £18.5million for their European efforts this term. In contrast, the Slovakian champions, despite losing all eight of their Champions League group phase matches, astonishingly earned an almost similar amount. They bagged £15.5m just for qualifying for the competition, and additional sums were earned for finishing in a specific league position, and from broadcast revenue based on a ten-year club coefficient ranking. A total of £18.46m was amassed by the team who finished 35th in the Champions League table, a figure akin to that earned by the winners of the Conference League, reports Birmingham Live. The Villans and Nuno's Forest, still smarting from their losses, will feel this stark disparity in prize money, although they will be showcasing their skills in both the Europa League and Conference League next season, respectively. Elsewhere, Tottenham – this season's Europa League winners – pocketed £3.6m when they qualified for the competition and earned performance-related amounts and their coefficient share of broadcast revenue on their journey to the final. All told, for winning the tournament, Ange Postecoglou's Spurs raked in roughly £35m, plus an additional £3m for reaching the UEFA Super Cup. This is not even considering the amounts tied to subsequent Champions League qualification. However, this sum is still dwarfed by the earnings of eventual Champions League victors PSG, who pocketed approximately £130m for their success in Munich. Barcelona chief Deco drops hint on when Man Utd can expect Marcus Rashford bid
Marcus Rashford's agent was recently spotted in Barcelona for transfer talks but the Manchester United star will have to be patient if he wants to get his dream move Barcelona sporting director Deco says that his club will focus on the futures of their own players before making moves for targets such as Marcus Rashford. Barca are in the process of tying down a number of key players, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal recently putting pen to paper on new deals. Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny also has an offer on the table while Barcelona are in negotiations with defenders Inigo Martinez and Eric Garcia to secure their long-term futures. But they still expect to make 'two, three or four signings', Deco has confirmed. One of those could be Rashford, whose agent and brother, Dwaine Maynard, was seen meeting with Deco in Catalunya last week. The England international has been put up for sale by Manchester United, who loaned him out to Aston Villa for the second half of the season. Villa negotiated the option to sign him permanently for £40million but they're now unlikely to trigger that clause. It leaves Rashford, who's set to lose his shirt number at United, searching for pastures new and Barcelona are understood to be his dream club. But the 27-year-old will have to be patient and hope that they pursue a move for him instead of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, as Deco outlined Barca's priorities. "We have been focusing on renewing contracts, after that, we'll discuss players to come," the former midfielder told BBC Sport. "Of course, these two players, like you mentioned, they are good but have contracts in their clubs, so we won't speak because it's not fair. But when you decide to go to the market, for sure, we find some names. In my opinion, we don't need to bring many players. "When I speak with the agents of the players, everyone wants to come or stay. So this is important. The image of the club is still good. We are proud because Barcelona is still such a big club, and the way we are playing football makes players want to come." Should Barcelona sign Marcus Rashford? Have your say in the comments section. Deco also confirmed that Barca will 'not sell their best players', despite their precarious financial position. The newly-crowned La Liga champions dominated Spanish football in Hansi Flick's first season in charge and were minutes away from reaching the Champions League final. Flick described both Rashford and Diaz as a 'fantastic players' when asked about the attacking duo last month. "I don't want to talk about players who aren't part of my team, but they're both fantastic players and I like them," the German said. "We'll see what happens."

Jeremie Frimpong's response to career ambitions shows reason he joined Liverpool
Jeremie Frimpong completed his £29.5million move to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen last week, with the Dutchman now on his way to fulfilling his dreams of reaching the pinnacle of football Jeremie Frimpong once voiced his career ambitions as a teenager, showing why he chose to join Liverpool and how he has become a top player in recent years. The Reds completed their signing of the wing-back from Bayer Leverkusen last week after activating his £29.5million buyout clause. The Netherlands international penned a five-year contract with the newly-crowned Premier League champions. He is seen as the successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was unveiled as a Real Madrid player just hours before Frimpong's announcement, while also providing competition at right-back for Conor Bradley. Under the guidance of fellow countryman Arne Slot, the 24-year-old will look to reach new heights after being named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season twice. Frimpong became a standout player while playing a pivotal role in Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen team, achieving an unbeaten domestic double in 2023/24 where he scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 matches. His move to Anfield marks a return to English football after leaving Manchester City six years ago, having joined the Etihad side at the age of 10 but failed to break into the first team. He then signed for Celtic in September 2019, enjoying an 18-month spell before switching to Leverkusen in January 2021. During his spell in Scotland, Frimpong didn't shy away from expressing his lofty ambitions, which have taken him to where he is today. Aged only 19, he announced to the world that he wanted to win football's biggest individual and team accolades, a testament to the character Liverpool have added to their ranks. In a 2019 interview with the Mail, Frimpong boldly stated: 'I want to be the best player there is. I want to play for the biggest team ever. I want to win the Champions League. I want to hold the World Cup. I want to win as many trophies as I can.' With Scottish Premiership and Bundesliga titles already under his belt, helping Liverpool retain their Premier League title and conquering Europe would certainly edge Frimpong closer to his dreams. The Dutch contingent at Liverpool, which includes Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch, is expected to ease Frimpong's transition to life on Merseyside. He even acknowledged looking up to Van Dijk, his compatriot and Liverpool captain, during his time at Celtic. Frimpong said at the time: 'Look at Virgil van Dijk. There's the example. Played for Celtic; four years later, he nearly wins the Ballon d'Or at Liverpool. He was so close. So can I be the best player there is? Yeah, I think I can be.' Upon joining Liverpool, Frimpong told 'It (the transfer) went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer. 'For me, it was like, 'Whatever you guys do, just get this done.' [Speaking to] my agents, 'Just get this done.' Liverpool fans, I'm going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate. "Hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together. I'm just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won't let you guys down, and I'll give you the energy that you guys want.'
