LONDON (AP) — Veronika Kudermetova secured her first Grand Slam title by teaming up with Elise Mertens to win the women's doubles final at Wimbledon on Sunday, rallying to beat Hsieh Su-Wei and Jelena Ostapenko 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 on Centre Court.
Kudermetova and Mertens were on opposite sides in the final in 2021 but were playing at Wimbledon together for the first time this year. They trailed 4-2 in the third set but won the last four games to seal the comeback.

It is Mertens' fifth Grand Slam doubles title, and second at Wimbledon. In 2021, she teamed up with Hsieh to win a marathon final where they saved two match points against Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina.
'I lost that final and it was so painful," Kudermetova said. "Today I said to myself, I really want it. And it's mine now."
Hsieh has won the Wimbledon doubles title four times with three different partners.
Ostapenko won the 2017 French Open singles title and was looking for a second major doubles title after winning the U.S. Open last year with Lyudmyla Kichenok.

Nico O'Reilly also didn't take part in Manchester City's open training session. Simon Bajkowski has reported for Manchester Evening News that O'Reilly wasn't deemed fit enough to train with his teammates. But there was a good vibe to City training in front of a packed Joie Stadium. It was no surprise to see Kalvin Phillips and Mateo Kovacic fail to train today. Both players are continuing their rehabilitation from injury. Vitor Reis looks poised to complete a loan move to Girona in the coming days so his absence is understandable. It is hoped that Nico O'Reilly's fitness issue isn't serious ahead of Manchester City's upcoming friendly against Palermo this weekend.

Forest confirm new front-of-shirt sponsor

Nottingham Forest have announced Bally's Corporation, an American gambling, betting and interactive entertainment company, as the new front-of-shirt sponsor for the 2025-26 season. It comes despite Premier League clubs collectively agreeing in 2023 to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of their matchday shirts by the end of the 2025-26 season. Clubs have been allowed to secure new shirt-front deals before the deadline and will still be able to continue featuring gambling brands in areas such as shirt sleeves and LED advertising afterwards. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis said: "We are on a special journey - we are determined to keep achieving incredible things and strengthening our global partnerships is an important part of this. "As our club continues to thrive both on and off the pitch, we're looking forward to working with Bally's on a number of exciting initiatives, helping us to engage with our growing fanbase within Nottinghamshire and around the world." Home shirts with the new sponsor will be worn for the first time in Tuesday's friendly against Serie A side Fiorentina at the City Ground. In the 2024-25 campaign, 11 top-flight teams had a gambling sponsor on the front of their shirts, an increase of three from the previous campaign. The ban from next season follows a consultation between the league, its clubs and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as part of the government's ongoing review of current gambling legislation.

Report – Liverpool Looking To Hijack Inter Milan Pursuit Of Parma Defender

Liverpool could reportedly try to overtake Inter Milan in the race to sign highly-rated Parma center-back Giovanni Leoni. According to British newspaper The Times via FCInterNews, the Reds could hijack Inter's long-term pursuit of the 18-year-old. It's no secret that the Nerazzurri view Giovanni Leoni as a concrete target despite the current lack of funds. However, Cristian Chivu has requested the youngster's signing, having previously worked with him at Ennio Tardini. (Photo by) With Inter focusing on adding Ademola Lookman to Chivu's attacking options, their pursuit of Leoni has taken a back seat. Meanwhile, Liverpool have seemingly spotted a window of opportunity and are keen to take advantage. Despite boasting a star-studded backline, the reigning Premier League holders are in the market for a new defender. Indeed, Virgil van Dijk is entering the autumn of his playing career. Therefore, Ibrahima Konate remains the only dependable center-back option for the future. That rings particularly true when factoring in Jarell Quansah's transfer to Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
