Amazon
Web Services (
AWS
), an Amazon.com company, today opened its first 8,000-square-foot AWS Innovation Hub in Asia Pacific (APAC), located at the AWS corporate office in downtown Singapore. This new innovation facility offers an immersive experience for CEOs and business leaders in APAC to interact with AWS and Amazon-wide technologies, and over 30 partner solutions across 50 real-world customer use cases for cloud technology. The experience culminates in AWS customers receiving a practical roadmap for accelerating their digital transformation, designed by Vision Builder, a proprietary AWS road-mapping solution powered by Amazon Nova.
* Multi-million-dollar facility brings together cutting-edge technologies from AWS, Amazon, and partners around the world
* AWS will host over 1,000 C-Suite leaders from across the region and 200 students from local tertiary education institutions at the Hub each year
The AWS Innovation Hub aims to fast-track digital and artificial intelligence (AI) transformation and innovation for public and private sector organizations across APAC. The multi-million-dollar facility is an additional investment on top of AWS's commitment to invest US$9 billion into cloud infrastructure in Singapore by 2028. Each year, AWS plans to engage over 1,000 C-Suite leaders and business decision makers at the Hub on cloud and Gen AI technology-led innovation, and will provide 200 students from Singapore's tertiary education institutions an exclusive learning experience at the facility. The virtual and physical demos of existing and new technology solutions are co-built with AWS partners and customers to address top business challenges and can already be adopted by companies in the region.
The AWS Innovation Hub builds on AWS's existing innovation offerings around the world such as the AWS Builders Studio in Melbourne where customers connect with AWS technologists to build, experiment, validate, and test prototypes before scaling. AWS also supports customers to accelerate their generative AI innovation through global initiatives, such as the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center, where AWS's expert AI scientists and strategists bring deep industry and AI expertise to guide customers across the full AI lifecycle from ideation to enterprise-wide scale. Additionally, AWS brings startups, developers, investors, and industry experts together at the AWS Gen AI Lofts that are pop-up collaborative spaces and immersive experiences aiming to foster innovation. The AWS Gen AI Lofts visited Bengaluru and Seoul in 2024 and will be coming to Bengaluru and Osaka in 2025.
"Technological innovation is critical to the growth of Asia, and we need innovation to transform customer experiences while also delivering real business value," said Jaime Valles, Vice President, AWS Asia Pacific & Japan. "The AWS Innovation Hub empowers our customers to convert big ideas into real business outcomes by combining our comprehensive cloud and AI technology, proven expertise from our network of over 140,000 partners worldwide, and Amazon's unique culture of innovation. Here at the Hub, our customers can build practical roadmaps to solve the region's most pressing challenges and opportunities in collaboration with AWS. From smart farming and personalized retail to emergency response and digitalized citizen services - the opportunities are endless, and we are excited to help accelerate the pace of digital innovation for the region."
Experiencing cutting-edge technology that accelerates innovation
At the Hub, a first-of-its-kind globally, AWS will curate bespoke innovation experiences for C-Suite leaders depending on their business needs and challenges. Guests will walk through three zones - Aspiration, Acceleration, and Action, ending with a clear digital transformation roadmap to be executed in collaboration with AWS and its partners. In the Aspiration Zone, executives can experience how the latest technologies such as generative AI, quantum computing, and virtual reality can transform APAC businesses and communities.

Amazon share price rises after Prime, non-prime members get never-before grocery delivery options

Amazon share price rose 1 per cent on Wednesday after Amazon is now rolling out a service where its Prime members can now order their blueberries and milk at the same time as basic items like batteries and T-shirts and get them within hours. The online juggernaut said Wednesday that customers in more than 1,000 cities and towns including Raleigh, North Carolina, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Columbus, Ohio, now have access to fresh groceries with its free same-day delivery service on orders over $25 for Prime members, with plans to reach over 2,300 cities and towns by the end of the year. Amazon called the move 'one of the most significant grocery expansions' for the online retailer as it introduces thousands of perishable items into its existing logistics network. The expansion is expected to put more pressure on grocery delivery services offered by such rivals as Walmart, Kroger and Target, which all saw their shares take a hit in early trading Wednesday. India to be key driver of our long-term growth: Amazon's Samir Kumar

India is expected to become one of the largest contributors to Amazon's long-term growth, its country head Samir Kumar said on Wednesday, adding that the e-commerce giant is doubling down on its focus in the market, where it is investing billions of dollars. India is still not as deeply penetrated in terms of online consumption and therefore, presents a "very large opportunity" for Amazon, Kumar, who is now helming operations here as the Country Manager of Amazon India, told PTI in an interview. It is pertinent to mention that Amazon has committed to significant investment in its India infrastructure, about ₹ 2,000 crore for 2025 alone. It has previously outlined a broader investment pledge of $ 26 billion by 2030, with close to $ 15 billion between 2023 and 2030. Kumar said India is among the fastest-growing markets for the company. "And we are a big believer that in the long run, India will be one of the biggest contributors to our growth," Kumar said, but did not give a timeframe. India is still not deeply penetrated in terms of consumption, he said, adding that while users are online, buying products and watching videos, there is a huge headroom for growth when it comes to online shoppers. "...not everyone is shopping online. If you look at just mobile phone penetration, maybe it is close to a billion people, who have mobile phones, but only 100 million plus of them are shopping online. So, the next 200 million (that the company is aspiring to reach) are going to be part of that," he pointed out. As the economy grows, and so does consumption, and as GDP per capita rises, India is poised to have "many more consumers who will value the convenience of shopping online", Kumar noted. "We have seen this phenomenon around the world. So, we have a very large opportunity still remaining in India. We have 1.4 billion people," he said. The company has set its sights on what Kumar describes as a broader 'Bharat', living in tier 2, 3 cities and beyond. "Let's take a good chunk of that and make sure that they are able to come online, shop online, get the best value, and get the fastest delivery possible. And with that, I believe there's a big opportunity. So, beyond the tier one cities, there's a huge opportunity in 'Bharat', which is like tier 2, 3 cities, where we are seeing very deep penetration now starting to happen," he said. For Amazon, part of that optimism also comes from Prime Day sales indicators. "In fact, if you look at the Prime Day performance that we just concluded, almost 70 per cent of new Prime customers or Prime members came from these smaller cities. If you look at our sellers who participated in Prime Day, almost 60 to 75 per cent of them got a sale from the smallest town and city. So, I think India is growing," he said. Kumar declined to give a breakdown of India numbers, but said it is "definitely one of our fastest growing markets, continues to be". "And we continue to see the growth of India," he said. Amazon is "happy" with the progress that it has made so far, but believes "there's so much to be done". "We are very, very long-term focused," he asserted. Asked how macroeconomic realities, and the trade and tariffs tensions between India and the US are impacting exporters on its platform, Kumar refused to comment on specifics, saying "I am not an expert on tariffs". "...what we building a frictionless and really smooth experience for our sellers, whether it's building the middle mile or the global mile capability for people to take their item and be able to distribute it around the world. "So, we are building that capability. Making it easier for sellers to list their products in one place and go through the regulatory and compliance requirements in each of the marketplaces that we run. So, we are enabling that," he said. US markets today: Wall Street climbs on global rally and Fed rate-cut hopes, Asia and Europe join upswing

US stocks climbed on Wednesday, lifted by a global equity rally and growing expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates in September. The S&P 500 rose 0.4% to a new all-time high, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 259 points or 0.6%, and the Nasdaq Composite added 0.5% to extend its own record from a day earlier, AP reported. Easing Treasury yields supported the advance as investors bet on the Fed delivering its first rate cut of the year next month. Lower borrowing costs can boost asset prices and economic activity, though policymakers remain wary of reigniting inflation. 'Chili's is officially back, baby back!' Brinker International CEO Kevin Hochman said after the restaurant operator reported stronger-than-expected quarterly results, sending its shares up 7.5%. The upbeat mood followed a surge in Asian markets, their first chance to react to Tuesday's better-than-expected US inflation data. Hong Kong's Hang Seng jumped 2.6%, Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 1.3% and South Korea's Kospi advanced 1.1%. European stocks also rose, with Germany's DAX up 0.7% and France's CAC 40 adding 0.5%. On Wall Street, HanesBrands climbed 4.2% after agreeing to be acquired by Canada's Gildan Activewear in a $2.2 billion cash-and-stock deal. Gildan's US-listed shares surged 10.1%. Grocery chains fell after Amazon announced plans to offer same-day fresh grocery delivery in over 1,000 US cities and towns; Kroger dropped 4.5% while Amazon gained 1.2%. Cava Group slumped 16.8% after missing revenue expectations, trimming its 2025 sales outlook, and reporting flat guest traffic at established outlets. CoreWeave tumbled 13.2% after a wider-than-expected quarterly loss. The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 4.24% from 4.29% on Tuesday and 4.50% in mid-July, marking a significant retreat for the bond market. President Donald Trump has continued pressing for rate cuts to aid the economy, often criticising the Fed chair personally. However, Fed officials remain cautious, citing concerns that Trump's tariffs could exacerbate inflation. A key US wholesale inflation report due Thursday is expected to show a slight pickup to 2.4% in July from 2.3% in June.
