CM Yogi Directs Officials To Grant Land Ownership Rights To Bangladesh Refugees
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath directed officials to grant legal land ownership to Bangladesh refugees, emphasizing moral responsibility and historic significance.
In a significant move, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday directed state officials to take swift action in granting legal land ownership rights to around 10,000 families displaced from Bangladesh who have been resettled across various districts in the state.
Calling it a moral responsibility of the government, Chief Minister Adityanath said, 'This is an opportunity to honour the decades-long struggle of thousands of families who took refuge in India and have waited for rightful rehabilitation. These families must be treated with both sensitivity and dignity."
'This is not just a policy decision; it is a sensitive and historic step toward delivering justice to those displaced families who have lived in uncertainty for decades," CM Yogi said.
'This effort must be viewed through the lens of social justice, humanity, and national responsibility. It is a chance to restore dignity to lives long overlooked," added.
Officials reported, post partition, between 1960 and 1975, thousands of displaced families from East Pakistan resettled in Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bijnor, and Rampur districts.
Initially settled through transit camps and provided agricultural land, most of these families have still not received legal ownership due to discrepancies in records and administrative delays.
The CM was informed that although land has been allotted in several villages, various issues, including land being recorded under the Forest Department, incomplete transfer procedures, and a lack of physical possession, have acted as a hindrance in the process to grant them formal land rights.
In some areas, families from other states have also been resettled but continue to remain without legal ownership.
Recent assessments revealed that in many villages, those families have been cultivating land for years and have even constructed permanent homes still their names are missing from official land records.
It has also come to light that some of the original allottees no longer live in those areas. Further, in some areas, people have taken possession of land without even completing the legal formalities which has further complicated the matter.
In the wake of persistent challenges, CM Adityanath stressed on the need to explore alternative legal mechanisms in light of the repeal of the Government Grant Act in 2018. He has directed the officials to explore new provisions within the existing legal framework to resolve these issues.

‘Some Were Swimming When Indian Missiles Hit…': PM Modi's Jibe At Shehbaz Sharif
Last Updated: PM Narendra Modi mocked Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif for admitting he was swimming while India launched precision strikes under 'Operation Sindoor', praising India's response. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a jibe at his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif on admitting that he was swimming while India launched precision strikes on his country under 'Operation Sindoor'. While participating in a special three-day discussion in the Lok Sabha on 'India's strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam", the Prime Minister said, 'India's army gave a decisive response when Pakistan chose to brazenly back terrorists. Our missiles reached the corners of Pakistan- something they did not even imagine. We forced them to stoop to their knees." The PM said that after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Pakistan Forces had an idea that India would indeed take major action. They started making nuclear threats. 'On the intervening night of 6-7 May, India took action just as decided. Pakistan could not do anything. Our armed forces avenged 22nd April within 22 minutes with precision attacks." PM Modi further said that after India's action on May 10, Pakistan begged for a ceasefire. 'Pakistan said, 'Bahut maara, ab jyada maar jhelne ki takat nahi hai." They asked us to stop the war," said the PM. He further said that after the attack, the armed forces were given free hand to take action against the terrorists. 'Armed Forces were given a free hand. They were told to decide the when, where and how…We are proud that terrorists were punished, and it was such a punishment that the terrorist masterminds have sleepless nights even to this day." The Pakistani Prime Minister had brazenly admitted that he was swimming while India launched precision strikes on his country under 'Operation Sindoor'. During his address to an event held at the Pakistan Monument in May, he had also admitted that India's ballistic missiles hit Nur Khan Airbase and other sites on May 10, in a rare gesture that contradicted Pakistan's usual denial when it comes to Indian military action. 'At around 2:30 am on May 10, General Syed Asim Munir called me on a secure line and informed me that India's ballistic missiles had hit Nur Khan Airbase and other areas. Our Air Force used homegrown technology to save our country, and they even used modern gadgets and technology on Chinese jets," he said. 'After Fajr (Namaz), I went for a swim, carrying my secure phone with me. The phone rang for the second time—it was General Asim Munir on the line. He informed me that Pakistan had retaliated against India," he added while neglecting to mention to the audience that India had intercepted all the missiles and drones launched by Pakistan. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Democrats press Trump officials for large-scale effort on Gaza starvation
Washington, Jul 29 (AP) Senate Democrats are imploring the Trump administration to address the suffering and starvation in Gaza. More than three dozen senators signed a letter Tuesday urging the resumption of ceasefire talks and sharply criticising an Israeli-backed American organisation created to distribute food. Their letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff says the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation created with backing from the Trump administration has 'failed to address the deepening humanitarian crisis and contributed to an unacceptable and mounting civilian death toll around the organisation's sites". Trump on Monday expressed concern about the worsening humanitarian situation and broke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's claim that people are not starving in the Gaza Strip. But it is unclear how Trump will proceed. (AP) SCY Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Naxal killed, three security personnel injured in Chhattisgarh encounter
Sukma, July 29 (PTI) A Naxalite was killed and three security personnel were injured in an IED blast during an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Tuesday, a police officer said. He said a joint team of security personnel on an anti-Naxal operation and Maoists exchanged fire in the forest along the Sukma-Dantewada inter-district border. The operation, involving personnel of the Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was launched on Monday based on inputs about the presence of Maoists in the area, said Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan. During the search of the encounter site, security personnel found the body of a male Naxalite along with a huge cache of arms, ammunition, and explosive materials. 'Three personnel belonging to DRG sustained injuries in a pressure IED blast during the operation. All injured personnel have been safely evacuated and are being referred to higher medical centres for advanced treatment. Their condition is currently stable and out of danger," Chavan said. He said that as the operation is still underway, other details cannot be discussed. With the latest gunfight, 226 Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year. Of them, 208 were eliminated in the Bastar division, which includes districts of Bijapur, Bastar, Kanker, Konadagaon, Narayanpur, Sukma, and Dantewada.
