Housefull 5 Is Akshay Kumar's First Hit In A While. It Took 17 Other Actors To Do It
Sixteen flop films and almost four years. This was perhaps the distance that Bollywood star Akshay Kumar had to travel from 2021's blockbuster Sooryavanshi to reach Housefull 5, his latest release, which is on its way to becoming a hit at the box office within days of its release. Housefull 5, the newest chapter in the comedy film franchise Housefull, crossed the Rs 100 crore-mark at the domestic box office on Tuesday. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani of Dostana fame, the thriller comedy released in theatres on June 6. Countless laughs. One Housefull heart. Thank you for showering so much love, cheering loud, and cruising with us! ♥️🙏🏻 #Housefull5 In Cinemas NOW! Book your tickets today! 🎟️ #SajidNadiadwala 's #Housefull5 Directed by… — Nadiadwala Grandson (@NGEMovies) June 10, 2025 After all, it is all about numbers. It took 18 actors, including Akshay Kumar himself, two alternate endings of Housefull 5 (Housefull 5A, Housefull 5B) and a reported budget of Rs 300 crore for the actor to finally become lucky in 2025, almost four years after the release of Sooryavanshi. Housefull 5 also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Chitrangda Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Panday, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Nikitin Dheer, Dino Morea, Soundarya Sharma, and Ranjeet. Housefull 5 is also his third release this year after period dramas Kesari Chapter 2 and Sky Force, which fell just a bit short from becoming box office successes. According to reports, Sky Force was made on a budget of Rs 150 crore and earned Rs 142 crore. Kesari Chapter 2 raised between Rs 144-168 crore while it was made on a budget of Rs 120 crore. Housefull 5 is around Rs 200 crore away from being called a bona fide hit. Bankrolled by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the film was reportedly mounted on a budget of more than Rs 300 crore. It's the fifth film in the comedy franchise and it marks the 10 years of the first Housefull film too. And, so the makers left no stone unturned in their efforts to make this film a hit. Mediapersons were distributed BookMyShow codes worth Rs 500 to watch Housefull 5A along with a companion for a show on the release day (June 6) at a cinema hall of their choice. Then, multiplex chain PVR INOX said viewers can watch the film at just Rs 149 on June 10 (Tuesday). Book… — Nadiadwala Grandson (@NGEMovies) June 9, 2025 In terms of advance bookings for the release day, Housefull (both versions combined) had earned Rs 14 crore, with the figures from block (reserved) seats amounting to approximately Rs 5 crore, according to trade website Sacnilk. The movie's reported earnings come as a much-needed respite for Akshay Kumar. After the highs of his Sooryavanshi in 2021, one of the biggest hit Hindi films in the post-COVID-19 world grossing over Rs 290 crore, came Atrangi Re the same year which fell flat at the box office. The coming four years were marred by a long list of duds, including big-ticket titles across genres such as Samrat Prithviraj, Ram Setu, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The only exceptions were 2023's OMG 2, in which Akshay Kumar featured in an extended guest appearance, as well as Stree 2 and Singham Again, both 2024 releases, which starred him in a cameo. These 16 movies also don't include Cutputtli, which got a direct-to-digital release on JioHotstar (then Disney+ Hotstar). The name of Akshay Kumar once bore the promise of a hit film, an idea that has come under scanner and intense media scrutiny after the actor's consecutive movies bombed at the box office in the last four years. The films being poorly reviewed by critics also didn't help. During the trailer launch of Sky Force earlier this year, Akshay Kumar candidly spoke about his career slump. "It's not that it has happened for the first time. The best part is you keep on working hard. That is what I tell myself. If anyone talks to me about it, I say the same thing that you have to keep working hard," the actor had said. Akshay also said many people have started advising him to do "one film or maximum two films" in a year. "... But I say if I can work, then why not? I have based my entire career on that. Many people have told me not to do content-based films, but I don't want to leave that. I want to keep working on different kinds of films," he had said at the time.

Wamiqa Gabbi says she has ‘seen enough in life to not be affected' by the release fiasco of Bhool Chuk Maaf
Bhool Chuk Maaf, the Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi-starrer time loop comedy, was ironically stuck in its own time loop of release. The makers had initially decided to skip its theatrical release and get a digital release. However, multiplex chain PVRINOX had moved the court challenging its producers' decision. Subsequently, the film was released in theatres on May 23. (Also read: Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi-starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf will now release in theatres on May 23, say makers) Now, in an interaction with Just Too Filmy, Wamiqa opened up about whether she learned anything about the entire issue of the film and the weight of holding on to such a film. Wamiqa said, 'It did nothing to me. I have seen enough in life to not be affected by this! It was a very big moment for me. I could have been crushed. I could have gone through multiple feelings. But I did not, because I have seen enough.' She explained, 'I have been rejected too many times. I have seen things being promised and then not happening. I have put all my faith into projects where I thought that this would just change my career or change my life, and it did not. I understood that it is not in my control. In all of that, my growth was still happening. Slow and steady.' It began when Maddock Films initially stated that the movie would skip its theatrical release on May 9 and get a digital release on Prime Video on May 16 due to the recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation following Operation Sindoor. The multiplex chain PVRINOX had moved the court challenging its producers' decision to release it on Prime Video directly. PVRINOX Limited (PVRINOX), Maddock Films Pvt. Ltd. (Maddock), and Amazon MGM Studios have reached an understanding and now the movie will be released in theatres on May 23. Bhool Chuk Maaf revolved around a soon-to-be-married man who realises that he is stuck in a time loop and keeps reliving the day before his wedding. It is available to watch on Prime Video.

EXCLUSIVE: Aamir Khan to release of Sitaare Zameen Par on 1200 screens; Set for a platform release
Over the years, Aamir Khan has come up with the most unique ideas to release his feature films on the big screen. Come June 20, and the actor is all set to introduce another innovation. According to sources close to the development, Aamir Khan along with his national distribution PVRInox are all set to give a platform release to Sitaare Zameen Par, with the idea to increase the show on a real-time basis through the day of release, leading to the opening weekend. According to reliable sources, Sitaare Zameen Par will see an all-India release on about 1000 to 1500 screens on the opening day. 'The makers were exploring several release ideas, and the plan at the moment is to bring the film on approx. 1250 screens. Aamir Khan is confident of the film, and is well aware about the change in audience dynamics, which is the reason why he is looking at a longer game than a shorter one,' revealed a source close to the development. The source further informed that Aamir is confident to evoke a collective emotion among the cine-goers, in a packed auditorium. 'The release will be more concentrated towards the high-performing cinema halls in the respective areas, before slowly transitioning to the mass belts on demand. Given that the film isn't arriving on any OTT platform, Aamir and the team have enough time to adopt the strategy based on word of mouth,' the source added. Sitaare Zameen Par is scheduled to release only on the big screen on June 20, and Aamir is looking to aggressively promote the film post the release too, as he believes that the film has the legs to perform well at the box office in the long run. 'Internationally too, it's a strategic release, though the exact plans would be known closer to the release,' the source concluded. Interestingly, the platform release strategy has been used by Rajshri and YRF in the past on films like Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, and Uunchai among others. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
