KCAU 9 News headed to Sheldon for Hometown Proud

KCAU 9 News is shining a spotlight on another Siouxland community on Thursday in the latest edition of 'Hometown Proud.'
This Thursday, KCAU 9 will be in Sheldon, Iowa and featuring stories on the town's industry, history, and culture.
There will be stories about the last remaining Ben Franklin store, how a daughter embezzled millions from her father's bank, what exactly an 'Orab' is, and more.
Hometown Proud will feature in both the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts on March 27.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The headliner for the Main Stage at the 35th Saturday in the Park has been announced! The performers for this year's Saturday in the Park Main Stage will officially be announced Tuesday at 10 a.m. For now, here are the two headliners for the Main Stage. This year, the Main Stage will be headlined by Teddy Swims. Teddy Swims' career began when he would release song covers on YouTube. This eventually led to his popularity skyrocketing in 2023 with the release of his single 'Lose Control.' Teddy Swims is known for blending soul, country, and pop into sound all his own. Joining Teddy Swims on the Main Stage is Mavis Staples. Mavis Staples is a prolific rhythm and blues and gospel singer. Her rise to fame began when she was a part of her family's band, The Staples Singers. Staples has gone on to win three Grammy Awards, including one for Album of the Year. She is also a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. She has also been inducted into multiple music halls of fame as part of The Staples Band and for her solo work. KCAU 9 will be live Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Hard Rock, where officials will officially be making the announcement. They may even drop a few new names during the announcement! KCAU 9'S Remarkable Woman reflects on her trip to L.A.

SPENCER, Iowa (KCAU) — A woman that has helped her community recover from devastating floods was amazed by the other nominees for Nexstar Media's 2025 Remarkable Woman. Terri Batschelet is KCAU 9's Remarkable Woman, and you can find more of her story here. In April, she flew to Los Angeles and met with more than 100 women from across the country to celebrate their contributions to their communities and learn who will be named the 2025 Remarkable Woman. Batchelet enjoyed the trip and made great connections with the other nominees. 'They treated us like stars,' Batschelet said. 'We were treated very well, wonderful food, wonderful time of gathering with other women that I can learn so much from.' She got to learn about the top 5 nominees for the 2025 Remarkable Woman on the night of the awards. 'It was actually very emotional for me because I was amazed to see the amount of talent and passion of women in that room, that were doing things for their community that were pretty remarkable.' Batschelet said she's staying in touch with several of the women she met while in L.A. The one-hour Remarkable Woman Special airs Saturday, May 17, at 6:00 p.m. on KCAU 9 News.
