Wrexham's Joanne smashes her best times at British event
The event was held at the national pool, in Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
Joanne, who trains and competes for Ellesmere College Swimming Academy and has been a member of the Welsh development squad for two years, pushed on from her early season success at the North Wales regional championships, where she won nine gold medals and two silvers in her 15-16 age group individual events, after just turning 15 a few days earlier.
Joanne qualified for no fewer than six events at the British championships by ranking in the top-24 fastest times in the UK for her 15 year age group.
Just 28 female swimmers any age qualified for more events.
Ranking fourth, 17th, 24th, ninth, 18th and 24th, expectations were for two possible finals and a chance of a medal.
However, Joanne completely blew this out of the water by taking a combined 21.68 seconds off her personal best times for the 6 events to qualify for five finals, achieving one silver and one bronze medal.
The silver came in the 200m butterfly, where she amazingly took more than three seconds off her pb.
Meanwhile, a bronze medal was secured in the 400m individual medley.
Here, Joanne took an astonishing nine seconds off her personal best.
Further medals almost arrived in 100m butterfly and 200m breaststroke.
In the butterfly, she touched in fourth place, just 0.05 seconds from bronze.
An hour earlier saw the breaststroke final and a near five-second personal best saw her fourth.
Taking more than three seconds off her personal best, Joanne finished fifth in the 200m individual medley.
She was 14th in the 50m butterfly, taking 0.7 seconds off her personal best.
As well as having a number of top-10 UK rankings for her age group, Joanne's times see her ranked number three in Wales any age for 400m individual medley, and, remarkably, 23rd on the all-time Welsh rankings list.
She is also ranked sixth in Wales for 200m butterfly and eighth for 200m breaststroke.
In her 15 year old age group, she is ranked first in Wales for five events - 400m individual medley, 200m individual medley, 200m and 100m butterfly, and 200m breaststroke.
Joanne has been a student and swimmer at Ellesmere College for the past few months and with their coaching team, she has improved significantly in this time.

But the Old Trafford hierarchy remain unfazed by Brighton's refusal and are currently figuring out how to construct a payment package. According to The Independent, United are considering an initial £80million fee with the rest made up of add-ons. There would be a will to send a player such as Roma-linked Jadon Sancho the other way, but it's unlikely that Brighton will go for that. But it's also understood that Baleba is priced above what United would be prepared to pay this summer. READ MORE ON MAN UTD Roo what? Fans questioned how the club could afford to splash £200million on three new signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. But it's become clear that the PSR scare stories were perhaps a overblown, with United operating within the guidelines after spreading out contracts instalments. However, splashing another 100-odd million on a player might be too big an ask. He is another example of Brighton's impressive scouting system, signed as a replacement for British record transfer Moises Caicedo - who, in turn, took the place of Yves Bissouma after a big money move to Tottenham. This is a tried-and-tested formula for Brighton as they've lost key players in the past, such as Alexis Mac Allister, only for others to step up and fill in. Baleba previously told The Sun that praise from players like Declan Rice, Cunha and Joelinton, as well as watching Man City star Rodri lift the Ballon D'or, has encouraged him to set his sights on the most prestigious individual award in football. Baleba missed Brighton's last three pre-season games, having not played since mid-July with a reported knee injury.

Lerone Murphy's mission to become Britain's next UFC champion by the end of 2025
Anything less than a title shot against Alexander Volkanovski will not satisfy British featherweight Lerone Murphy should he dispatch hot property Aaron Pico in the co-main event of UFC 319 this weekend, as he sets his sights on ruling the division by the year's end. Murphy, 34, does not know what it's like to lose as a pro and is finally beginning to put the fighting world on notice following his climb through the ranks. Undefeated at 16-0-1, 'The Miracle' has stacked up his resume, with impressive scalps against Edson Barboza, Dan Ige, and most recently Josh Emmett - the formidable hard-hitter of 145lbs - in his last three fights. The Manchester fighter returns to action in the precursor to Dricus Du Plessis vs Khamzat Chimaev in Chicago, taking the risk of a short-notice fight against debutant Pico, who arrives with a bundle of hype following his acrimonious departure from PFL. Pico (13-4-0) has seemed destined to fight in the UFC ever since signing with Bellator at the age of just 17, with the once blue-chip prospect, now 28, beginning to enter his prime years. But with risk comes opportunity for Murphy, now posed with the chance to spoil Pico's party and ramp up his own momentum towards reaching his mountain top: becoming UFC champion. In his mind, victory on Saturday could mean that journey culminates in just a few months, with Murphy still harbouring dreams of a homecoming title fight. 'I'll tell you how my perfect scenario would be,' Murphy told The Independent, who missed out on the opportunity to fight at UFC London in March this year. 'I win this fight, I challenge Volk in maybe October or November. I win, obviously, and then I defend it in Manchester in March. That would be perfect scenario for me.' To reach dreamland, however, Murphy will need to deal with the challenge of Pico, who the Brit recognises as his toughest stylistic challenge to date. 'He's championship calibre,' Murphy admits. The American freestyle wrestler has won eight of his last nine bouts, making his name during a devastating run in Bellator. Pico was initially meant to fight top-ranked Movsar Evloev in Abu Dhabi last month, with Dana White insisting that the bout was a number one contender's match for Volkanovski's gold before the Russian was forced to withdraw. Despite being a late switch, Murphy insists the stakes should not change last-minute - and would take it as a slight if they were. ' Of course I would,' he said. 'And that would just show the way the sport's going if I didn't (get a title shot). 'I deserve it. I believe I'll be the only guy in the top of the division that's beaten four solid guys that are ranked and fought two main events, two five rounders. They know I can fight five rounders. I'm ready for that title. 'With a win, I get to take that spot and push in front of the queue. I'm sure if I win, Dana will be in the changing rooms and we'll be talking about what's next.' Murphy's self-belief is hardly unfounded. He has the backing of the champion, with Volkanovski tipping 'The Miracle' to get his arm raised on Saturday and become his next challenger, despite going into the fight as the odds-on underdog. 'He's almost in a position where he deserves it anyway. Surely he gets it, I think it's well deserved,' Volkanovski said on his YouTube channel. Conversely, the Aussie believes he would 'mop the floor' with Pico. 'That's good for him to be saying that,' Murphy responded. 'It's good for the champion to be one, praising my skillset and two, seeing that if I win, that fight's next. That would make sense.' While the target remains on the champ's back, there is a mutual respect between Volkanovski and Murphy ahead of what could be a barnburner featherweight title fight to come. 'Volk's a legend, man,' he added. 'He's still got it. You saw in the fight against Diego Lopes, he looked great and he's one of the greatest of all time, if not the (greatest). 'I'd love to test my skillset against Volkanovski and I've always dreamed of fighting him since he's been champion. What a name it would be to have on my resume.'

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac handed popularity reality check as fans don't hold back
A new poll shows most Premier League fans don't want Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac owning their clubs, despite Wrexham continuing to thrive under their celebrity stewardship Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have been handed a reality check on the extent of their popularity. The two actors have taken the football world by storm since buying the Welsh club in February 2021. The Red Dragons have registered three promotions in a row, lifting them from the National League to the Championship. Wrexham have also attracted a global fanbase after their achievements were highlighted on the Welcome to Wrexham documentary. However, while supporters in the North Wales city are more than happy to have the A-list pair on board, a new poll shows not every fanbase would be. Betfair's annual 'Nation Predicts' survey shows 66 per cent of more than 2,000 football lovers questioned wouldn't be interested in Reynolds and Mac owning their club. Liverpool and Newcastle supporters were most against the idea of Hollywood ownership. The findings of the poll conducted by YouGov Sport are perhaps unsurprising given the two clubs' relative satisfaction with their current owners, who are also far richer than the Wrexham pair. The Reds lifted the Premier League title last season and a summer of big spending has followed under owners Fenway Sports Group. Meanwhile, Newcastle, backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, clinched their first piece of major silverware since 1969 by winning the Carabao Cup. Manchester United fans were the most receptive to the idea of Reynolds and Mac taking the helm, with 27 per cent supportive of the prospect, compared to 56 per cent against. That could potentially be down to significant discontent with the Glazer family's ownership and, more recently, the partial takeover by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Surprisingly, 69 per cent of Tottenham supporters were against the notion of the Hollywood duo taking charge, with only 21 per cent in favour. That's despite Spurs fans often voicing their anger at chairman Daniel Levy over the club's fortunes in recent years. While supporters of Premier League sides might turn their noses up at Reynolds and Mac, who recently filed to legally change his surname from McElhenney, their stock in Wrexham remains as high as ever. And former England goalkeeper Nigel Martyn also believes that celebrity ownership can provide a net benefit for football after highlighting the progress enjoyed by Wrexham and Birmingham City, who are part-owned by NFL legend Tom Brady. Speaking to Parimatch, Martyn said: "I think it's been a breath of fresh air if I'm totally honest. Seeing things like the Wrexham documentary on television and how open they've been with everything is great for the game. "They're popular people and while Ryan Reynolds is somebody that most people think, 'Yeah, he looks like he's a nice guy and he's funny,' both he and Rob McElhenney are serious about how they run the football club as well. "You won't hear anyone in Wrexham say a bad thing about them, I wouldn't imagine, because they've turned them around from a team that had been out of the Football League to one which I expect to see pushing into the higher echelons and the Premier League. It's been tremendous. "Anything that boosts the club and the standing of your club in a positive way is a good thing. To have Tom Brady at Birmingham City, for Birmingham fans, it makes them stick their chest out a little bit further and say, 'Look who we've got now.'" He added: "So far, Wrexham have done it tremendously well and Birmingham appear to be making progress. In all honesty, it doesn't matter how much money you throw at it, there is no guarantee that you're going to win the league. But, so far, both teams have bounced up the leagues pretty well. "Fair play to them, it's going to be interesting but I think it's a positive thing, definitely, and celebrity ownership, with people trying to copy Wrexham and Birmingham, is probably something we'll see more and more and more of."
