Rory McIlroy looking to 'get out' of disaster US Open
Rory McIlroy has defended himself for not speaking to media during the US Open as he admitted he has stopped caring about his tournament performance for the rest of the weekend.
The Northern Ireland golfer completed a career Grand Slam when he was victorious at The Masters in Augusta earlier in the year, but has admitted struggles in getting his motivation back following the career highlight.
The world number two became just the sixth player to achieve the career Grand Slam. Rory McIlroy has defended himself for not speaking to media during the US Open as he admitted he has stopped caring about his tournament performance for the rest of the weekend. Pic:With the US Open kicking off earlier in the week at Oakmont, the father-of-one refused media on a number of occasions later revealing he was avoiding the microphones 'a little more often.'
He explained: 'I feel like I've earned the right to do whatever I want to do. I hope they don't change it [PGA Tour's non-enforcement of speaking to media] because it's a nice luxury to have.
'I'm just pointing out the fact that we have the ability to do it.' He explained that his game plan was to stay patient and 'try to do a good job' but admitted the golf courses being used can result in a 'pretty quick' loss of patience. The champion golfer finished the last two US Opens as the runner up, and has never finished worse than ninth place in the championship.

He said: 'I've driven the ball better. I've driven the ball as good as I have in a long time, so that's at least a positive this week. I was hoping to play better, but I didn't.'
Asked how he hoped to see out the US Open campaign, Rory answered: 'Hopefully a round in under four and a half hours and get out of here.'
