US Open Prize Money: JJ Spaun cashes cheque bigger than McIlroy Masters pay day

JJ Spaun earned the biggest payday of his career as he hung tough to win a dramatic US Open on Sunday. The American had been a mainstay at the top of the leaderboard all week, but a string of bogeys to start the day coupled with some horrible luck early on, caused him to slip down the leaderboard. A rain delay caused a major disruption and tough conditions saw leaders Adam Scott and Sam Burns struggle while Scotland's Robert MacIntyre carded a remarkable two-under-par round to sit at one-over-par and clubhouse leader in a day where everyone faltered. Spaun would come up clutch, however, with a timely birdie on the short 17th followed by a major moment as he holed a mammoth putt on 18 to win the tournament. For his efforts, Spaun will cash a cheque of $4.3m, bigger than Rory McIlroy's $4.2m he earned for winning the Masters earlier this year. McIlroy has been out of form since that Masters win but did show some signs of life with a three-under-par final round and earned a cool $243,070 for his efforts. Here is the full breakdown of prize money. 1. JJ Spaun (-1) – $4,300,0002. Robert MacIntyre (+1) – $2,322,0003. Viktor Hovland (+2) – $1,445,062T4. Promising jockey Harry Davies kicked off huge ride on eve of Royal Ascot as punters warn ‘karma will come'

A PROMISING young jockey has been kicked off a huge Royal Ascot ride - as punters warned 'karma will come' for the horse's owners. He timed his ride on the Triumph Hurdle third to perfection when scoring on the Roodee. But he won't get the chance to repeat the feat at Ascot after being jocked off the four-year-old gelding in favour of James Doyle. Wathnan's No1 rider has stacks of experience at the Royal track so it's no surprise to see a switch-up ahead of the 2m4f Ascot Stakes on day one. And owners the Gredley family certainly aren't afraid of a late jockey switch. They famously Racing commentator Mike Cattermole was one of those surprised to see Davies lose the ride on the 4-1 second-favourite. He wrote on X: "Harry gave East India Dock a copybook ride around Chester, of all the tricky tracks! Most read in Horse Racing "He is a lovely lad and must be gutted. What an odd and pointless decision." And a punter replied: "That's really not very nice at all. Feel sorry for Harry… karma will come." Tim Gredley spoke sense when he explained the decision, though, highlighting course form counts for everything. He told the "It's nothing more than that. "Harry Davies did nothing wrong at Chester and he'll still ride for us." Willie Mullins will look to kick off a Royal party at Ascot when he saddles the King and Queen's Reaching High. Ryan Moore gets the ride on the 7-2 fav, who was bred by the late Queen Elizabeth and is out of Estimate, her beloved Gold Cup winner. Major champion ‘destroys US Open locker room' as picture of wreckage emerges and fans demand ban

A MAJOR champion was accused of destroying the US Open locker room. And fans demanded he is slapped with a ban for his outburst. 4 Wyndham Clark missed the cut for the 2025 US Open by one shot - after bogeying the 18th Credit: Getty 4 The 2023 champ reportedly damaged the locker room at Oakmont as his frustration boiled over Credit: X @TronCarterNLU Wyndham Clark, 31, won the 2023 US Open at LA Country Club, pipping Rory McIlroy by one shot. However, aside from his super weekend in California, Clark has endured a wretched run in the majors. His next-best result was a T33 at The Open a month after his US Open victory. But from his 15 appearances, he has failed to make the cut eight times - including last week at Oakmont for the 2025 US Open. READ MORE ON US OPEN His score of +8 saw him finish one shot outside of the cut line after bogeying the 18th hole in his second round. And it appears his frustration boiled over behind the scenes. According to Most read in Golf CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS He wrote: "Multiple sources confirming that the Blow Pig really got after it in the Oakmont locker room. "Super classy, desecrating one of the most historic spots in golf AND on the heels of his behavior at Quail Hollow. Eagle-eyed fans spot Rory McIlroy's 'unrepeatable' magic trick in furious fit of rage at US Open "Probably time to put him in the cooler for a few months." An accompanying photo appeared to show two panels of the locker doors damaged. Furious golf supporters were quick to lambast Clark for his reported behaviour. One said: "That's a historical locker room too id ban him from ever playing there again tbh." Another replied: "This is unacceptable anywhere. He's a guest of Oakmont. You don't do this ever." A third added: "Not even close to acceptable, for a pro or amateur. He should be suspended. Imagine being a guest at a club and doing that after the round." A fourth typed: "He should be suspended. This is ridiculous. The tour and the USGA should make statements strongly condemning the club throwing, profanity, and all the other antics that have become the norm in the professional game." 'COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE' A fifth responded: "Wyndham Clark should be banned from next year's US Open. Completely unacceptable behaviour." 2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell, though, defended Clark. He posted on X: 'This is minimal [in] regards [to] what I've seen other players do. Players you would never expect. "Oakmont will test any player's mental fortitude. Seen it in person.' At last month's PGA Championship, Clark came under fire for mashing an advertising board by launching his driver in anger - breaking his club and only narrowly avoiding a marshal. A further social media user commented: "I've long supported Wyndham Clark, I gave him the benefit of the doubt at PGA Championship when he smashed the sign. "But this is unacceptable. This is a suspension and fine at minimum." And a final person tweeted: "If I did what @Wyndham_Clark did yesterday, I would get arrested. He shouldn't get out of this with some ChatGPT apology. Should be suspended and fined." He sunk birdies on the final two holes - including a 65-foot monster putt - to deny Robert MacIntyre in dramatic fashion. 4 Clark broke his driver and the advertising board by launching his driver at the PGA Championship Credit: Sky Sports Golf 4 JJ Spaun lifted the trophy at Oakmont after a dramatic final day Credit: EPA
