Twitch is adding 1440p and vertical streaming
Twitch is getting more TikTok-ified with vertical game streaming. Also, "2K" (1440p) video will let you watch that League of Legends stream in a higher resolution. The ability to rewind streams is coming, too. CEO Dan Clancy made the announcements on Saturday at TwitchCon Europe.
Portrait-mode streaming makes it a little easier to watch gameplay on your phone. Until now, Twitch only supported the orientation for clips and IRL streams. Clips are short highlights that creators can share after a stream ends. And "In Real Life" content shows everyday activities rather than gameplay.
But some screens work much better in a landscape view. Fortunately, Twitch is also rolling out a dual-format mode. Creators can go live in vertical and horizontal orientations at once. You can watch the version that works best for your device. The company will begin testing "with a small number of channels" this summer. It will expand access later this year.
Twitch's 1440p streams should be a welcome addition. (Who doesn't like a sharper-looking video?) On the back end, it uses a newer HEVC codec that produces a better picture with a lower bitrate. And the platform's Enhanced Broadcasting tech automatically tweaks the viewer's resolution.
The 1440p streaming begins rolling out today to all partners and affiliates. But it's in an open beta, so creators may need to wait for access.
Finally, Twitch is rolling out a rewind feature. If you miss part of a stream, you can scrub back to catch up on what you missed. That feature isn't quite here yet, either. Twitch will test it with "a small number of viewers" this summer.

How to watch the Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025
Summer Game Fest 2025 kicks off on June 6, and if there's one event from the weekend that everyone's sure to be talking about, it's the Xbox Games Showcase. The livestream is scheduled for Sunday, June 8 at 1:00PM ET (10:00AM PT), and you can tune into it on the Xbox YouTube channel or Twitch, where ASL interpretation will be provided. Immediately after the Xbox showcase, there will be a separate presentation dedicated entirely to The Outer Worlds 2. You can watch both the Xbox Games Showcase and The Outer Worlds 2 Direct using the embedded stream below when it goes live. Last year's showcase brought us news about the upcoming Fable reboot (since delayed until 2026), the next entry in the Gears of War series, Gears of War: E-Day, the recently released Doom: The Dark Ages and much more. Caitlin Trask created a "man catalog" to better understand her potential matches across the United States Once she compiles all her data, she will go to the city with the most potential matches and meet them in person Her TikTok video of her "man catalog" went viral, amassing 530,000 viewsCaitlin Trask is putting together a dating science experience. Trask, 32, keeps a spreadsheet of all the men she's matched with on Hinge, tracking things like their age, height, job, and any interesting information shared on their dating profiles. Trask tells PEOPLE exclusively it's a way to figure out what city has the highest percentage of people she would be compatible with. The idea was inspired by one of her coworkers, who found her fiancé by going to different states and different countries for a month at a time. She would set her dating apps to that location and go on dates with different men there. Trask decided to give it a shot after struggling to find romantic connections in Denver, where she lives. Now, Trask sets her dating apps to different cities to see who she can match with, and catalogs them in her spreadsheet. Along with general information about each person, such as their religion and political affiliation, she also indicates whether or not she finds them attractive and their communication style. 'Most guys that I am finding are my usual type, which means they have curly hair, good smiles and interesting prompts in their profile," she says. "Someone who it seems like I could have a fun conversation with is what I'm generally finding.' As an 'analytical person,' Trask says it's interesting seeing different patterns pop up in her data. One, most notably, is that she's matched with only men over 6 feet 2 inches in Boston, despite her online peers joking that they haven't found any tall men in Massachusetts. Trask shared her man catalog on TikTok, and the video went viral, amassing over 530,00 views. Most of the reactions to her video have been positive, with many asking her to share her template.
