Liam Payne fans heartbroken as late One Direction singer's Netflix show gets release date

Daily Maila day ago

Liam Payne fans have been brought to tears as Netflix has confirmed the release date of the late singer's new music competition series, Building the Band.
Filmed before the One Direction star's death in October 2024, the new 10-part series will see talented singers vie for a chance to form the next great band sight unseen.
Payne serves as a guest judge on the series – which is hosted by Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean - alongside Destiny's Child star Kelly Rowland, while Nicole Scherzinger serves as a mentor and judge.
Together, the trio bring their 'unparalleled expertise and personal band experience to the competition.'
Netflix finished filming the show prior to the former One Direction star's sudden death and has since confirmed that his family reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion.
The streaming giant announced on Wednesday that the show's first four episodes will launch on July 9.
New episodes will roll out every Wednesday over the course of 10 episodes.
Payne's fans expressed their devastation as they reacted to the announcement news.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one said: 'Oh it's gonna be so hard... Liam.'
'Heartbreaking to see Liam Payne in this poster,' another wrote. 'It's going to be his final project forever. I'm going to be crying my eyes out watching this show.'
A third continued: 'Oh Liam... you should've been here. Your post sharing this poster, full of excitement and passion should've been the one where I saw it first.
'I know you're screaming about this wherever you are.'
'Not prepared,' another said. 'Idk if I'll be able to watch.'
A fifth confessed: 'I'll be sobbing in my room while I watch.'
'Building the Band brings together talented singers for a truly unique competition show where building the perfect band is all about chemistry,' the show's official synopsis reads.
'The singers are in complete control as they seek to form their very own bands in individual "booths" without ever seeing each other.
'All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit. What will happen when the bands finally meet, and looks, choreography, and style come into play?
'With incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal — to find the next great music band —t he stage is set for an unforgettable experience.'
Payne died aged 31 on October 16 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after falling from a hotel.
Fans across the world were stunned by his passing and an outpouring of grief culminated in a touching funeral attended by musical royalty and all of his former bandmates.
His medical cause of death was announced to be 'polytrauma,' a term which means a person has multiple traumatic injuries to their body.
Payne was one of five members of hit boyband One Direction alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan.
The band were formed on Simon Cowell's The X Factor before becoming an international sensation.
They split in 2016 after Zayn decided to leave the band.

Bridgerton star describes horrific 'life and death' moment she fought off thief

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Bridgerton actress Genevieve Chenneour has shared insight into her horrific experience as she bravely defended herself from a prolific thief. The 27-year-old star's real-life drama was thoroughly modern as she fought off a phone thief in Joe & the Juice. Chenneour, who plays Clara Livingston in Netflix's beloved show, revealed on This Morning the moment which turned into a 'life and death' situation. She shared: 'I had a bit of a sixth sense that something wasn't quite right, as woman you have that kind of intuition, and I could feel people moving around me in a different way but I only became aware of it once the incident had happened.' Chenneour was waiting for her order at the chain cafe on Kensington High Street, London when the thief, who the Daily Mail identified as Zacariah Boulares, 18, quietly snuck up behind her and grabbed her phone, which was placed on the counter. Immediately, the actress sprang into action as she spun around and grabbed his arm while another man came to her aid. 'I did feel they were going back and forth trying to find a target, so they chose me,' she explained CCTV footage showed her freeing her phone from his grasp as she pushed him to the ground and fought back against the hooded criminal. 'I don't know if I would advise anybody else to do it,' Chenneour warned. 'I think I have very quick reactions, thanks to having three brothers growing up and I'm an aviated carded boxer. 'I think it just was an instinct, I also do a lot of fight training for work and acting… I thought that was a normal reaction and I read all the comments [from the CCTV footage] and realised, actually a lot of people would just let them take the phone.' At one point another man threatened to stab Chenneour, turning the incident into 'a real matter' which was 'life and death'. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video She continued: 'So, I did things like, I remember kicking him back with my leg to create space in case he had a weapon on him… It was just a life changing, crazy moment.' In court on May 29, Boulares pleaded guilty to stealing her phone as well as assaulting another customer. The actress previously told the Mail: 'They didn't expect me to stand up for myself – but I did.' 'I was left with a concussion just before the Screen Actors Guild Awards and since then, I've felt constantly on edge,' she shared. 'Even my dog was traumatised – now, if anyone touches me, he panics and tries to protect me. Getting a coffee shouldn't be something you need your wits about you for.' Chenneour added that she was thankful to the staff in store who were 'incredible' during the incident, and she has returned to see since. She retrained as an actress after winning an Olympic scholarship to train for Team GB's artistic swimming team at the age of 15. Unfortunately, an injury prevented her from going pro but after being a stunt double for underwater scenes in Gateway To The West she landed a role on Bridgerton. Boulares reportedly also threatened Aled Jones with a machete 18 months prior, as he stole the star's £17,000 Rolex watch while in West London. He was jailed for 14 months in a young offenders centre after the incident in October 2023, getting released 10 months early. At the hearing regarding Chenneour's case, he also admitted to stealing a handbag at a pizza restaurant in London's West End in January this year. In a message on her Instagram, the Bridgerton debutante thanked fans for their support after the attack. 'I'm okay and incredibly grateful he won't be able to harm anyone else,' she said. 'I am, however, finding it difficult to feel safe going out – especially after being repeatedly threatened with being stabbed in the face.' This second man has been released due to a lack of evidence and won't be going to court, according to the star. A spokesman for the Met Police said: 'Police were called to a restaurant on Kensington High Street on Saturday, 8 February following reports of a theft and an assault. 'CCTV showed the suspect stealing a phone from the table and then assaulting a separate member of the public who confronted him. More Trending 'The victim of the assault was kicked and punched before the suspect left the premises. 'CCTV enquiries identified Zacariah Boulares as the suspect and he was arrested. Boulares, 18, was charged with common assault and theft.' View More » He will be sentenced later this month. Got a story? Miami World Cup officials play down travel concerns a year from kick-off

June 12 (Reuters) - As a gleaming clock began ticking towards the 2026 World Cup, Miami officials launched the city's one-year countdown seeking to allay fears that America's stricter immigration stance could deter the overseas fans that it hopes to attract. The celebratory unveiling on Wednesday, featuring singer Marc Anthony, came just days after unrest in Los Angeles and amid the implementation of stricter border controls under President Donald Trump's administration. "I don't think anybody has anything to be afraid of. Miami is an incredibly welcoming place, and we're very excited to welcome the world," Alina T. Hudak, president of the 2026 Miami Host Committee, said at the countdown event. The digital clock, soon to greet travellers at Miami International Airport, marks 365 days until the start of the biggest World Cup in history — 48 teams playing 104 matches across three North American nations. However, security arrangements have drawn particular scrutiny, especially regarding the involvement of immigration enforcement agencies. Rodney Barreto, co-chair of the Miami Host Committee, confirmed that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be involved in security operations. "They will be there to support us with security, but not to capture people," he said. At Fiorito, an Argentine restaurant in Miami's Little Haiti neighbourhood, fans of the South American nation's defending champions expressed confidence that their countrymen would travel regardless of restrictions. "Wherever the World Cup is, it's great ... We're excited about being world champions and we can do much more," Argentina supporter Nicolas Lomazzi told Reuters. "What matters here is money, and they're going to make a lot with the World Cup, so they'll open the door for us all," added Emmanuel, an Argentina supporter hopeful of witnessing what could be captain Lionel Messi's final World Cup appearance. For Miami, a city shaped by successive waves of immigration, hosting the tournament represents a delicate balancing act — showcasing its multicultural identity while navigating an increasingly complex immigration landscape that threatens the smooth running of the biggest World Cup yet.

Identity of mystery rapper dominates 22nd day of Diddy's trial as jury hears he watched male escort sex show with wife and flirted with Diddy's ex 'Jane'

A mystery rapper dominated the 22nd day of Diddy 's trial, even though he was never identified in court. The jury was told about the ultra-famous hip hop artist and his wife watching a male escort have sex in front of their friends and Diddy's ex-girlfriend, referred to only as 'Jane'. The rapper, described in court as an 'icon' of the music industry, flirted with Jane while watching the sexual performance at a hotel in Las Vegas in January 2024. The unnamed individual said he was part of 'the lifestyle' meaning that he liked having more than one sexual partner - and even asked for a recommendation of a porn star for future shows. Speculation about the rapper's identity overshadowed the cross examination of Jane, who claims she was forced to take part in Freak Offs - where she had sex with male escorts for Diddy's pleasure - during their three-year relationship, which ended with his arrest in September in 2024. Diddy, 55, whose real name is Sean Combs, denies sex trafficking, racketeering and other charges. Jane has previously testified to taking a trip to Las Vegas in January 2024 while on a break from Diddy. She said she flew on the mystery rapper's private plane with several others and went to a play, dinner and then a strip club. Jane described the rapper as an 'icon' in the music industry and recounted one time where he allegedly said was a part of 'the lifestyle' meaning that he liked having more than one sexual partner - and even asked for a recommendation of a porn star for future shows The trip was to celebrate the rapper's wife's birthday, the court has heard. Among the group out for the night was a porn star called Anton who had previously been hired by Diddy to have sex with Jane for Freak Offs. Later that night, Jane went to a hotel room with the rapper and his wife and saw Anton having sex with another woman while they all watched. In court on Thursday, Diddy's lawyer Teny Geragos asked Jane if the rapper in question is 'very close to Mr. Combs'. Jane said: 'Yes.' After showing Jane a picture of the rapper – it was not shown to the public gallery – Geragos asked: 'Is it fair to say Mr. Combs and this individual were really close to one another?' Jane replied: 'Yes.' Jane confirmed that Diddy and the rapper had recorded music together and had what Geragos called an 'ongoing professional and personal relationship? Asked if the rapper was an 'icon in the music industry', Jane said yes. Jane admitted that she knew Anton had a relationship with the rapper and that he would travel with him and his wife. Turning to the hotel room, Jane said: 'Anton was having sex with a woman and everyone was watching.' Jane said that Anton and the woman were on the bed and there were seven or eight people watching. While Jane admitted to 'flirting' with the rapper, she said nothing else happened. She confirmed that she flashed her breasts as she felt like doing it 'in the moment'. Jane said: 'He (the rapper) said he thought I was beautiful, and he always wanted to blank me', meaning have sex. Geragos asked: 'The rapper told you he'd always had a crush on you?' Jane said: 'Yes.' The jury heard that the subject of Kabrale came up, referring to another porn star that Jane and Diddy used for Freak Offs. Jane said: 'They were asking me if I knew anybody else in the lifestyle and they were looking for someone, this is why I (texted) Kabrale. If I was to recommend somebody, I would recommend somebody I knew for a while.' According to Jane, the rapper and his wife had 'picked up the energy from me' that she had sex with other men. 'Or they assumed they'd got an inclination that me and Sean had been doing similar things,' Jane said. Five months later, Jane finally told Diddy about the episode, and he was furious. In texts Diddy complained about Jane 'disrespecting me with my friends'. Jane said she was in Las Vegas 'with (the rapper), not for a Freak Off, I was with my friend'. Geragos asked Jane if Diddy told her during a violent argument: 'How could you go to another man's Freak Off?' Jane said yes. Jane confirmed that Diddy felt that Anton had 'something over him'. Earlier in her testimony, Jane recounted Diddy's reaction in more detail. She told the court that Diddy said: 'I can't believe you cheated on me. I can't believe you went outside of us.' Jane said: 'I understood that he was trying to reference that we were part of some sort of lifestyle and that I betrayed him by being a part of someone else's lifestyle moment, this porn type of thing.' Diddy went on for around two hours about his sense of betrayal and that Jane was a 'whore' and a 'cheater'. Jane said: 'He just kept saying all those same things over and over and over again, just kept saying that I was just, like, terrible.' In court Diddy's lawyer Marc Agnifilo tried to persuade the judge to amend his order granting Jane anonymity so that the names of other people on the Las Vegas trip could be read out in court. Doing so would allow members of the public to 'come forward' if they had information that might help the case, Agnifilo said, adding that using the names was 'important'. Prosecutor Maurene Comey said that making the names public would be a 'pretext to harass and intimidate this witness' and that enough had been revealed already so that anyone who had information about that event could come forward. District Judge Arun Subramanian agreed and said he wouldn't modify the order to allow the names from this episode to be used. The episode in Las Vegas was a 'collateral issue' and not related to the sex trafficking charges, the judge said.
