Vicious attack on Indian man a 'possible hate crime'
The victim, aged in his 40s, was seriously assaulted and suffered cuts to his head, just above his eyes, and to his hands, at around 6pm on Saturday.
The man appears to have been stripped of his trousers in the incident and purported photographs on him show bleeding and injuries on his face, arms and legs.
The incident happened along Parkhill Road, in Kilnamanagh, Tallaght.
It is understood hate motivation is one line of inquiry gardaí are investigating.
A woman, who posted a message on social media, said she was one of a number of people who came to his aid and called the emergency services.
She estimated the teenagers suspected of being involved in the attack were aged around 15 or 16.
She said there were older adults there who were claiming the victim had been engaged in lewd behaviour at a nearby playground and alleged that that was why he was attacked.
Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances behind the incident but sources have expressed serious doubt at these allegations.
A garda statement said: 'Gardaí in Tallaght were alerted to an incident at Parkhill Road, Tallaght, on the evening of Saturday at approximately 6pm. Gardaí attended the scene and a male, aged in his 40s, was taken to Tallaght University Hospital with injuries.
'Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda Station 01 666 6000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.'
Local People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy said 'The local community is in shock at this appalling attack. This appears to be the latest in a series of recent racially motivated attacks by a gang in the area. Those responsible must be found and stopped.'

Outrage after child filmed violently attacking Dublin Bus passenger
The National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) is now renewing calls 'urgently' for transport police as tide of violence and anti-social behaviour rises The NBRU said incidents like the child attacking the passenger are a regular occurrence. Stock image. Photo: PA The National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) is 'urgently' calling for transport police to be introduced, after a video of a minor assaulting a man on Dublin Bus caused outrage. Tom O'Connor, assistant general secretary of the NBRU, labelled public transport 'unsafe' after the clip showed a hooded child repeatedly hitting the man in the back of the head. In the video, the attacker is so small, he has to stand up on the seat behind the victim, who is a person of colour. The violence intensifies as the clip goes on, as the minor hits the man in the face with a succession of rapid punches. This leads the victim to hold his nose while he makes his way downstairs. It seems that no one tried to intervene in the attack, which came just days after an Indian man, in his 40s, was stripped and assaulted in Kilnamanagh, Tallaght, south Dublin. Mr O'Connor said that anti-social behaviour and violence on public transport 'is getting worse'. 'It's not just racism, it's sexism and homophobia too,' he said. 'People are carrying out these awful attacks on public transport with absolutely no regard for social norms. They just don't care. 'We urgently need a transport police to deal with these incidents. We can't wait. 'Right now, there's just no deterrent there to stop attacks on the public and on drivers. 'Our public transport is unsafe. These kids are wearing masks, hoods, but their actions are serious and it's anti-social behaviour that's just getting worse. 'The system is a joke. We need transport police with powers to arrest, detain and pursue. 'Five ministers have spoken about transport police and we still haven't got any.' It is understood the incident took place on a bus in north Dublin bus two weeks ago. The boy in the video appears to be aged around 11 to 13. The clip was widely shared on social media. Mr O'Connor said that on Dublin Bus routes and also on the Dart, there are problem areas where violence and anti-social behaviour are regular occurrences. He said rolling out transport police in these areas would be a huge step forward. Gardaí said they have not received any reports about the incident two weeks ago. Dublin Bus said it is aware of the violent clip and it is carrying out an investigation. The NBRU said incidents like the child attacking the passenger are a regular occurrence. Stock image. Indian Embassy in Ireland issues warning to citizens over physical attacks
A WARNING has been issued by the Indian Embassy in Ireland over the risk of physical attacks on Indian citizens in the country. The advisory also urged people to take 'reasonable precautions' when out and about in the country. The move follows a racially-motivated attack on an Indian man in Tallaght last month. Organisers of a protest march held in Dublin last weekend in the wake of the attack said such incidents are growing in frequency but are under-reported. 'Avoid deserted areas' The warning from the embassy was posted on its social media accounts on Friday, as well as appearing as a pop-up on its website. It was also shared on twitter/X by Akhilesh Mishra, the Indian Ambassador to Ireland. "There has been an increase in the instances of physical attacks reported against Indian citizens in Ireland recently," it reads. "The Embassy is in touch with the authorities concerned of Ireland in this regard. #MEAIndia @MEAIndia — India in Ireland (Embassy of India, Dublin) (@IndiainIreland) August 1, 2025 "At the same time, all Indian citizens in Ireland are advised to take reasonable precautions for their personal security and avoid deserted areas, especially in odd hours." The alert also provided emergency contact details for the embassy for anyone affected. A statement from the embassy last week said it was in touch with the victim of the Tallaght attack and his family, adding: "All the requisite assistances are being offered." Attack The victim of the Tallaght attack, who had only been in Ireland for a week, was reportedly beaten and striped from the waist down after being set upon by a gang of teenagers in the Kilnamanagh area in the early evening of Saturday, July 19. Footage of the bloodied victim was shared online, alongside false claims that he had been acting inappropriately with children prior to the attack. "We are aware of misinformation and disinformation in circulation regarding the circumstances prior to this assault — this baseless speculation is completely false," read a statement from gardaí. "An Garda Síochána has recorded this incident as racially-motivated and it is being investigated as such." Last Saturday's protest march to the Dáil was supported by numerous organisations including United Against Racism, Migrant Rights Centre Ireland, Migrant Nurses Ireland and Unite the Union. The previous day, a silent protest was held at the Department of members of the Indian community in Ireland, while an anti-racism vigil took place later that evening in Tallaght.
