Sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson arrested for incident at Washington airport involving boyfriend
Richardson was charged Sunday with fourth degree domestic violence, according to the police report obtained by The Associated Press. On Thursday, she ran in the opening round the women's 100 meters at U.S. track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon. She has an automatic bye to the world championships in September in Tokyo as the defending champion.
'USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter,' USA Track and Field said in a statement.
Richardson's agent did not immediately reply to an email request for comment.
The police report said an officer at the airport was notified by a Transportation Security Administration supervisor of a disturbance between the 25-year-old Richardson and her boyfriend, sprinter Christian Coleman.
The officer reviewed camera footage and observed Richardson reach out with her left arm and grab Coleman's backpack and yank it away. Richardson then appeared to get in Coleman's way with Coleman trying to step around her. Coleman was shoved into a wall.
The report later said that Richardson appeared to throw an item at Coleman, which the TSA indicated may have been headphones.
In the police report, the officer said: 'I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim.'
Richardson won the 100 at the 2023 world championships in Budapest and finished with the silver at the Paris Games last summer.
She had a positive positive marijuana test at the 2021 U.S. Olympic trials and didn't compete at the Tokyo Olympics.

SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Storm acquired All-Star guard Brittney Sykes from the Washington Mystics on Tuesday for Alysha Clark, Zia Cooke and a first-round pick in the 2026 draft. Sykes averaged 15.4 points, 4.3 assists and 1.2 steals for the Mystics this season to earn her first All-Star selection. She'll join a strong lineup that features Skylar Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike, Gabby Williams and Ezi Magbegor. Seattle (16-13) is currently in sixth place in the standings. Clark has played more than 300 games for the Storm in two stints with the team and helped the franchise win two WNBA championships in 2018 and 2020. Clark has been impactful off the court over the years in the city starting the organization's annual toy drive benefiting Seattle Children's Hospital. Cooke averaged just over 10 minutes a game this season and has shot a career-best 38.2% from behind the 3-point arc. She was the No. 10 pick in the 2023 draft by Los Angeles. Nigerian customs seize over 1,600 parrots and canaries in major wildlife trafficking bust
LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — Nigerian customs said they seized more than 1,600 parrots and canaries that were being transported from Lagos international airport to Kuwait without a permit, in one the biggest wildlife trafficking seizures in years. The seizure is a sign of positive change in the fight against illegal wildlife trade, as Nigeria is a major hub in the global trade in protected species, Mark Ofua, West Africa spokesperson for the international non-governmental organization Wild Africa, told The Associated Press on Tuesday. Customs agents seized ring-necked parakeets and green and yellow fronted canaries, two protected species, at the airport on July 31, the agency said in a statement late Monday. Nigeria is a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, or CITES. The statement by the customs agency said the shipment were not accompanied by a CITES permit and other documents required to prove the birds were legally obtained. Nigerian customs said an investigation to find those responsible for the illicit cargo is ongoing, and that the birds will be handed to the National Parks Service for rehabilitation and release into the wild. Ofua said Nigeria's porous borders, widespread corruption, and weak enforcement make it a key transit point for ivory, pangolin scales and other wildlife products destined for Asia. Global illegal wildlife trafficking is valued at $8–10 billion annually, he added.
