Dipika Chikhlia isn't sure about Arun Govil playing Dasarath in new Ramayana: ‘I can't play anything other than Sita'
Dipika Chikhlia says Arun Govil's casting as Dashrath is out of context
Dipika spoke about Arun playing Dashrath in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, where Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, and said, "To see him in a role apart from Ram… I don't know, I mean, see — I have seen him as Ram and I've seen myself as Sita. For me to see him as Dashrath is really a little out of context. But then I guess that's really his choice. It's very personal as to how people feel. It's very difficult to break images. I mean, if you played Ram, then you are Ram.'
She further added that had she been approached for the film, she wouldn't be comfortable playing any other character, and said, "I was never approached. I guess they've not even bothered to speak to me about it. Once I played Sita, I don't think I can play any other character in Ramayan. It's something I'm not sure about. If I was doing something in Mahabharat or Shiv Puran, I could still give it a thought, but not in a Ramayana film."
About Ramayana
Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The film is set to release in two parts, with the first installment hitting cinemas on Diwali 2026 and the second on Diwali 2027.
Earlier, in a conversation with Hindustan Times, the film's producer Namit Malhotra said he wants the film to be celebrated like Oppenheimer. He said, "I'm keen to not just make India proud but excite the world about Indian storytelling and really celebrate global cinema together. It's not like we don't like Hollywood films. It's not like we don't see an Oppenheimer and have a great feeling, or a Forrest Gump, or any of these, you know, landmark films. Their stories are universal. I believe this is universal too. This is that opportunity that I believe I'm pretty fortunate to have received in my life, and I hope I can deliver."

Nasser reacts to failure of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam's Thug Life; blames social media: ‘After the movie released on OTT…'
Despite arriving riding high on a wave of massive hype, as it marked the reunion of director Mani Ratnam and actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan after their landmark film Nayakan (1987), the gangster drama Thug Life was widely panned and ended up becoming a box office disaster. Not only did it fail to meet the expectations of fans and general moviegoers, but the movie also turned into a meme goldmine, ultimately becoming a cinematic 'disasterpiece'. Mounted on a massive budget, the film's cast and crew featured some of the biggest names in the Indian entertainment industry, including Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, actors Silambarasan TR and Trisha Krishnan, multiple national award-winning editor A Sreekar Prasad, and cinematographer extraordinaire Ravi K Chandran. Hence, the movie's debacle — and, by extension, its purported poor quality — not only shocked many but also left a mark on all involved. Now, veteran actor-filmmaker Nasser, who played a key role in the gangster drama, has reacted to Thug Life's underperformance. Expressing that he 'felt very bad' seeing the movie's fate, the thespian blamed 'self-proclaimed' film critics on social media for the result. Nasser also mentioned that many viewers contacted him after the movie's OTT premiere, commending Thug Life and expressing sadness over not having caught the film in theatres, a decision they apparently made based on reading online reviews. 'In my 40-year career, during which I have done about 700 movies, I have always tried to remain detached from my films (and their outcomes). Many films in which I performed well didn't reach audiences, and such things happen. So, I maintain my detachment. However, Thug Life was something personal. Here, I was working with the team that made me popular and successful and provided a turning point in my career. On the first day on set, I was blushing. It felt like I had gone back 40 years,' he shared in an exclusive conversation with SCREEN. Although Nasser made his acting debut in legendary director K Balachander's Kalyana Agathigal (1985) and appeared in a handful of movies after that, it was Mani and Kamal's epic crime drama Nayakan that put the actor on the map and propelled his career to new heights. Some of his most acclaimed characters were also in films headlined by Mani or Kamal, such as Thevar Magan, Bombay, Roja, Iruvar, Anbe Sivam, Ponniyin Selvan, and Magalir Mattum. Mentioning that everyone who worked on the movie put their heart and soul into it, he added, 'I saw Kamal sir, a professional actor, handled by another professional (Mani). It was not about friendship. Kamal sir was open to taking any decision made by Mani Ratnam.' He further stated that this was the first time in a long while that he had worked on a movie with rehearsals beforehand. 'After the arrival of digital cinema, there are almost no rehearsals. But Kamal sir was rehearsing. He wanted to go further and further. So, the process of making the film was very warm and special. Hence, when it was not received well, I felt very bad.' Offering his thoughts on why the movie underperformed, the actor-filmmaker reflected, 'I think social media played a significant role in this. We don't have proper critics on social media, where anyone can become one. After the movie was released on OTT, many people called me and said, 'Hey macha, it's a very good film. I don't know why it bombed.' So, social media contributed to why it wasn't received well at first.' He added, 'Also, I guess, people expected too much since it marked the reunion of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan. But while working, we did so with all our heart and soul. We completely enjoyed making the film. Of course, when it comes to movies, you cannot determine the results. But I felt very… not sad, but uncomfortable when I heard that the film was not doing well. However, now it's getting more credit after people started watching it on OTT.' Anandu Suresh is a Deputy Copy Editor at Indian Express Online. RCB captain Rajat Patidar's old phone number gets reassigned to Chhattisgarh teen; boys receive calls from Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers
Indian cricketer Rajat Patidar recently faced an unusual situation involving his old mobile number, two young cricket fans, and local police intervention. According to an NDTV report, Patidar's old mobile number, the one in question, was inactive for over 90 days, and was reassigned by his telecom provider. The number was purchased by a teenager named Manish from Gariaband district in Chhattisgarh, who activated it with a Jio SIM card in late June. After activating the number, Manish and his friend Khemraj noticed the WhatsApp profile still showed Rajat Patidar's photo. Further, they received calls from famous cricketers, including Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, who were trying to contact Patidar. Unaware of the number's past owner, the boys were surprised. Later, Patidar contacted Manish directly and asked for the number back, explaining that it was important for his communication with coaches, teammates, and close contacts. However, Manish and Khemraj didn't believe it was really Patidar. They said, 'And we're MS Dhoni,' and refused the request. Patidar then warned the teenagers of legal action. Within ten minutes, local police arrived at Manish's house, after which the boys returned the SIM card. Khemraj said the experience was unforgettable. 'I got to speak to Kohli because of a wrong number. My life's goal is complete,' NDTV quoted Khemraj. A guy from Chhattisgarh purchased a new sim which turned out to be Rajat Patidar's old number. – He received calls from Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers, but after Patidar informed the Police, the man returned the sim. — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) August 10, 2025 The incident quickly caught the Internet's attention, prompting a range of reactions. 'Imagine buying a new sim and getting calls from Virat and ABD (crying emojis),' a user wrote. 'What a wild twist! From random sim purchase to getting calls from Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Glad the man did the right thing and returned it after Patidar's complaint — truly a once-in-a-lifetime mix-up!' another user commented. 'It seems like Patidar is misusing his celebrity status! What's the guy's fault if he ended up with Patidar's old SIM? Patidar didn't even inform ABD and VK about his new number,' a third user reacted.
