Burnt pipe wrap prompts quick fire call to Parliament Hill

Ottawa Fire Services says smoke from a burning pipe wrap in a basement on Parliament Hill prompted a brief visit from firefighters.
Crews were called to the Justice Building on Wellington Street in downtown Ottawa at around 7:30 a.m.
The fire led to smoke spreading in the building just west of the House of Commons.
'The pipe wrap was quickly extinguished and firefighters are ventilating the smoke from the structure,' Ottawa Fire Services said on social media.
Spokesperson Nick DeFazio says it's still not known what caused the fire.
Ottawa paramedic spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps says one man was assessed at the scene for minor smoke inhalation but did not require a trip to the hospital.

Milton teen missing for more than a week
The search continues for a missing 15-year-old boy from Milton. Prajin Anbanandhan was last seen around 9 p.m. on June 8 in the area of Gifford Crescent and Philbrook Drive. 'Prajin is vulnerable and police and his family are concerned for his well-being,' the Halton Regional Police Service said in a media release. The next day, at approximately 1:12 a.m., Anbanandhan was seen on security video riding a blue and black bicycle, similar to one he owned. Cape Breton police to roll out body cameras this fall
The Cape Breton Regional Police is planning to launch body cameras for officers and downtown security cameras this fall. Police Chief Robert Walsh gave an update on the implementation of the camera system at the Board of Police Commissioners meeting on Wednesday. Regional council approved of the project in their $321.2-million capital budget earlier this year. 'As part of CBRM's commitment to public safety, accountability, and transparency in policing, the implementation of various camera systems has been prioritized,' the agenda for meeting reads. The project includes body-worn cameras for frontline officers, in-car cameras for patrol vehicles and stationary cameras in downtown areas. The agenda says the final drafts of the privacy impact assessments for all three systems are under a final internal review. The assessments include usage restrictions, mitigation methods and storage protocols. Contracts for the systems are expected to be handed out by July and the systems are set to be installed by late summer or early fall. An implementation report will be made available by September. Pedestrian killed in crash along Lougheed Highway in Pitt Meadows
A pedestrian was killed in a crash that shut down several lanes of the Lougheed Highway in Pitt Meadows early Wednesday morning. Ridge Meadows RCMP said officers responded around 2:40 a.m. to reports of a serious vehicle incident that involved a pedestrian in the 18900 block of the highway. They said the female pedestrian was deceased when they arrived. Lougheed Highway's westbound lanes at Harris Road were shut down and DriveBC said they remain closed as of 7 a.m. There is no estimated time of reopening and DriveBC said drivers should expect major delays on alternate routes. Police said they're investigating the crash and that no further information is available at this time. They're asking witnesses and anyone with dash cam footage to contact them.
