Bengaluru: To complete the much-awaited additional ramp at
Hebbal junction
,
Bangalore Development Authority
(BDA) has received the green signal from
South Western Railway
(SWR) to launch girders over the rail track at Hebbal junction. The authority will launch a 33.5-metre girder over the operational Hebbal railway line (Yeshwantpur-Omalur section), which will support a new four-lane road above the tracks.
A BDA official told TOI that to facilitate the work, SWR has agreed to suspend rail traffic and implement a line block for a three-hour window across four nights from May 17 to 20 (Saturday to Tuesday). BDA will carry out the work from midnight till 3am. During this period, traffic from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) heading into the city may be rerouted, as Hebbal flyover will be partially closed.
BDA is coordinating with traffic police to divert vehicles coming from KIA towards BEL Circle or Nagawara to enter the city.
An official said that considering the traffic density in the area, efforts are on to open at least one lane towards Mehkri Circle, pending approval from traffic police.
"We approached SWR for permission to launch the girder. The girders are already at the worksite. The operational rail line is heavily used, for operating passenger and freight trains running daily. After several rounds of deliberations, the SWR agreed to block traffic during construction hours.

There are a total of seven girders; for the first three days, we will launch two girders each, and on the last day, one girder will be placed above the rail track," a BDA official said.
The authority plans to deploy eight cranes for the
girder launch
. Preparatory work, including the removal of utilities, is already completed. Last year, the BDA approached SWR seeking approval for building road infrastructure over the rail line, and SWR asked the authority to ensure the ongoing ramp work doesn't create hurdles for future expansions.
In future, Hebbal junction will have as many as six rail lines, including those of the
Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project
. Other than the 33.5-metre girder, BDA is also launching an 18-metre girder adjacent to facilitate the expansion of rail works.
The new ramp will merge with KR Pura loop of Hebbal flyover and later connect with the loop in the nearby tree forest, serving motorists from the service road near Esteem Mall and Tumakuru Road. Initially, the ramp was designed to benefit motorists travelling from KIA to Mehkri Circle, but because of the traffic density at Hebbal, BDA revised the plan, fearing ramp extension work till Esteem Mall could create traffic chaos.
Now, the ramp will cater to only motorists coming from Nagawara and the NH service road.
Motorists coming from the mainlines of Ballari Road from KIA side will continue using the two-lane road.
Ramp construction faced multiple delays over the years. Recently, the govt set a completion deadline for April 2025. However, this was later extended to May because of pending works.

What is 'Dry begging': The subtle toxic habit that could be silently harming your relationship

It is often said that communication is the key for any successful relationship, and rightly so. Apart from clear, open, honest, and effective communication, a relationship also thrives on emotional honesty and mutual respect. When partners express their needs clearly, the relationship grows stronger-- while the vice versa is also true. When communication becomes indirect, and needs are expressed through guilt or hints it can damage your relationship beyond repair over time. This subtle toxic behaviour is called 'dry begging'— a pattern that therapists are increasingly concerned about. What is Dry Begging? 'Dry begging' might sound like a quirky internet term, but it points to something many of us have experienced without even realising it. Although it's not officially recognised in psychology textbooks (yet), the term has started gaining popularity, especially online and in therapy sessions. Popularised by UK-based counselor Darren Magee, dry begging refers to a passive-aggressive style of communication where someone tries to get what they want without directly asking. Instead, they use emotional manipulation, subtle guilt trips, or indirect statements that make the other person feel compelled to act. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Walgreens Keeps Quiet About This '9 Pills for $7' Generic Cialis Deal Friday Plans Get Offer Undo What does it sound like? Imagine this: Your partner walks into the room and says with a sigh, 'I guess I'll do all the dishes again,' or, 'Most people would appreciate what I do around here.' On the surface, these comments may seem harmless— even trivial. But if they're repeated often and layered with emotional cues like disappointment or resentment, they can start to wear on a relationship. According to Magee, dry begging is all about using emotional pressure instead of honest words. 'It operates by exploiting social cues and emotional signals rather than making direct requests,' he explains, reported ET. In other words, instead of saying, 'Can you help me more with housework?' the person drops a hint laced with guilt or emotional discomfort. Why Dry Begging is more harmful than it seems At first, dry begging might come off as a small annoyance. But over time, its impact can grow. Therapist Hope Kelaher warns that when partners use these tactics frequently, they unintentionally build a wall between themselves and their significant others. What begins as a minor communication quirk can evolve into emotional manipulation, resentment, and loss of trust. In fact, some people don't even realise they're engaging in dry begging. They might be uncomfortable asking directly for what they need, or they may have learned this habit from past relationships or family dynamics. However, even if unintentional, the emotional burden still falls on the receiving partner— who ends up feeling pressured, blamed, or just emotionally drained. The emotional toll of Dry Begging Dry begging doesn't just make communication confusing— it can deeply affect the emotional well-being of a relationship. When one partner feels like they constantly have to 'read between the lines' or guess what the other person wants, emotional safety disappears. The result? One person carries the emotional weight while the other avoids uncomfortable vulnerability. The solution: Open, honest and clear communication The good news? Dry begging is a learned behavior, and it can be unlearned. It starts with recognising the pattern and choosing honest communication over emotional suggestion. This small change in how you speak can create a huge difference in your relationship with your partner. Vulnerability might feel awkward at first, but it builds trust, clarity, and emotional intimacy— the very things every healthy relationship needs. Chinese ship runs aground off Philippines-occupied island in the disputed South China Sea

Chinese ship runs aground off Philippines-occupied island in the disputed South China Sea (AP) PUERTO PRINCESA: A Chinese ship ran aground in stormy weather in shallow waters off a Philippines-occupied island in the disputed South China Sea, prompting Filipino forces to go on alert, Philippine military officials said Sunday. When Filipino forces assessed that the Chinese fishing vessel appeared to have run aground in the shallows east of Thitu Island on Saturday because of bad weather, Philippine military and coast guard personnel deployed to provide help but later saw that the ship had been extricated, regional navy spokesperson Ellaine Rose Collado said. No other details were immediately available, including if there were injuries among the crewmembers or if the ship was damaged, Collado said. Confrontations have spiked between Chinese and Philippine coast guard and navy ships in the disputed waters in recent years. "The alertness of our troops is always there," Col. Xerxes Trinidad of the Armed Forces of the Philippines told reporters. But when they saw that a probable accident had happened, "we tried to provide assistance as professionals" in accordance with international law on helping distressed vessels at sea. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Wie wirksam sind Dentalsprays? Filipino villagers living in a fishing village on Thitu, which they call Pagasa island, immediately informed the Philippine military and coast guard after seeing the Chinese ship lying in the shallows about 1.5 nautical miles (2.7 kilometers) from their village, said MP Albayda, a local Filipino official, told The Associated Press. "They got worried because the Chinese were so close but it was really the strong wind and waves that caused the ship to run aground," said Albayda, adding that other Chinese ships pulled the stricken vessel away. The stricken ship resembled what the Philippine military had repeatedly said were suspected Chinese militia ships, which had backed the Chinese coast guard and navy in blocking and harassing Philippine coast guard and military vessels in the disputed waters, a busy conduit for global trade and commerce. Thitu Island is home to a Philippine fishing village and Filipino forces and is the largest of nine islands and islets occupied by the Philippines. It lies about 26 kilometers (16 miles) from Subi Reef, which China transformed into an island base along with six other barren reefs to reinforce its claim to virtually the entire South China Sea. Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan are also involved in the long-simmering territorial standoffs, an Asian flashpoint that many fear could pit China and the United States in a major conflict. The U.S. does not lay any claim to the South China Sea but has repeatedly warned that it's obligated to defend the Philippines, it's longtime treaty ally, if Filipino forces, ships and aircraft come under an armed attack, including in the South China Sea.
