Bengaluru MP urges Centre to intervene in Railway infrastructure delays

BENGALURU: Bengaluru Central MP P C Mohan has urged Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways, V Somanna, to intervene in several critical railway infrastructure issues affecting Bengaluru. During a preliminary review meeting on the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) held on Saturday, Mohan highlighted that delays by civic bodies and a lack of inter-agency coordination continue to hamper progress. One of the major concerns raised was the stalled Carmelaram Road Over Bridge (ROB), which remains just 35% complete due to delays in land acquisition by BBMP. The incomplete project has led to the closure of the Carmelaram–Gunjur Road, causing severe inconvenience. Mohan also pointed to the underutilisation of the Panathur Road Underbridge (RUB), which, remains non-operational due to pending approach road. He proposed introducing a new superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai, noting that existing options like the Udyan Express take over 21 hours.

Bengaluru Suburban Rail project lacks full-time MD for 2 years: PC Mohan flags leadership gap

BJP MP PC Mohan has raised serious concerns over the prolonged absence of a full-time Managing Director at K-RIDE, the agency executing the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project. Taking to social media platform X, the Bengaluru Central MP criticised the state government for appointing a junior officer to oversee the project. 'K-RIDE, executing the Bengaluru Suburban Rail project, has had no full-time MD for 2 years. Instead, a 2017-batch officer who has been awaiting posting for years has been made Special Deputy Commissioner. How can such a critical project run on part-time, inexperienced leadership?' Mohan posted. (Also Read: 'Nehru gave us HAL, it's our pride': DK Shivakumar counters Andhra's bid to shift defence projects from Bengaluru) His comments come amid growing frustration over delays in the implementation of the ₹15,767 crore suburban rail project, jointly funded by the Centre and the Karnataka government. Mohan's remarks follow a recent statement in Parliament by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who also underscored the need for a full-time MD 'conversant with railway technology.' (Also Read: Bengaluru Airport ramps up traffic surveillance with new CCTV network across junctions) While the Indian Railways has already handed over its share of land for the project, the minister pointed out that land transfer from the state government has been moving 'very slowly.' With public transport and urban mobility emerging as key political issues in Bengaluru, Mohan's remarks highlight the urgency for coordinated leadership and faster decision-making to prevent further delays in one of the city's most critical infrastructure projects. Hebbal junction: Bangalore Development Authority to launch girder over railway line

1 2 Bengaluru: To complete the much-awaited additional ramp at Hebbal junction , Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has received the green signal from South Western Railway (SWR) to launch girders over the rail track at Hebbal junction. The authority will launch a 33.5-metre girder over the operational Hebbal railway line (Yeshwantpur-Omalur section), which will support a new four-lane road above the tracks. A BDA official told TOI that to facilitate the work, SWR has agreed to suspend rail traffic and implement a line block for a three-hour window across four nights from May 17 to 20 (Saturday to Tuesday). BDA will carry out the work from midnight till 3am. During this period, traffic from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) heading into the city may be rerouted, as Hebbal flyover will be partially closed. BDA is coordinating with traffic police to divert vehicles coming from KIA towards BEL Circle or Nagawara to enter the city. An official said that considering the traffic density in the area, efforts are on to open at least one lane towards Mehkri Circle, pending approval from traffic police. "We approached SWR for permission to launch the girder. The girders are already at the worksite. The operational rail line is heavily used, for operating passenger and freight trains running daily. After several rounds of deliberations, the SWR agreed to block traffic during construction hours. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 지방보다 독소가 문제? The authority plans to deploy eight cranes for the girder launch . Preparatory work, including the removal of utilities, is already completed. Last year, the BDA approached SWR seeking approval for building road infrastructure over the rail line, and SWR asked the authority to ensure the ongoing ramp work doesn't create hurdles for future expansions. In future, Hebbal junction will have as many as six rail lines, including those of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project . Other than the 33.5-metre girder, BDA is also launching an 18-metre girder adjacent to facilitate the expansion of rail works. The new ramp will merge with KR Pura loop of Hebbal flyover and later connect with the loop in the nearby tree forest, serving motorists from the service road near Esteem Mall and Tumakuru Road. Initially, the ramp was designed to benefit motorists travelling from KIA to Mehkri Circle, but because of the traffic density at Hebbal, BDA revised the plan, fearing ramp extension work till Esteem Mall could create traffic chaos. Now, the ramp will cater to only motorists coming from Nagawara and the NH service road. Motorists coming from the mainlines of Ballari Road from KIA side will continue using the two-lane road. Ramp construction faced multiple delays over the years. Recently, the govt set a completion deadline for April 2025. However, this was later extended to May because of pending works.
