Police enhance security for Rafizi Ramli after son's attack in Putrajaya
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed the heightened security but declined to disclose specific details to avoid compromising operations.
'There are measures in place, but I cannot disclose them as it would reveal what the security team is doing... police will carry out the necessary protection,' he said during a press conference.
Shazeli stated that six individuals, including Rafizi, his wife, and son, have been called to provide statements.
He added that it is too early to determine if the attack was politically motivated, pending further investigation.
'Alhamdulillah, our initial investigation through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage has given us some leads and assistance,' he said.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from both inside and outside the shopping mall premises.
The public has been advised against speculation to prevent unrest or uncontrolled reactions.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, along with Sections 324 and 352 of the Penal Code.
Rafizi confirmed in a statement that his son was the victim, describing how two helmeted suspects on a motorcycle followed his wife's car.
One suspect allegedly grabbed his son and stabbed him with a syringe.
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to identify the attackers and their motives. - Bernama

Cops nab man for reckless driving after chase in Segamat
SEGAMAT: A 20-year-old man has been arrested for reckless driving and hitting several vehicles after failing to comply with police instructions to stop. The Segamat Police District car patrol unit (MPV) officers were patrolling the Jalan Labis-Chaah stretch when they spotted a missing silver sedan. "The car was reported missing in Labis on Aug 12," said Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah. The MPV unit followed the suspect until he reached the traffic light junction near the Chaah police station. Supt Ahmad Zamry stated that the suspect refused to stop when ordered by the police and sped off towards Yong Peng. "Our officers managed to catch the suspect at KM3, Jalan Yong Peng-Segamat after a chase," he said. Initial investigations revealed that the suspect has a previous criminal record and is on a wanted list for a narcotics case. The suspect has been remanded until Aug 8 to assist with the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 379A, Section 186, and Section 279 of the Penal Code. Section 379A of the Penal Code relates to the theft of motor vehicles or their components, punishable by imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and a fine. Section 186 deals with obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, with penalties including imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both. Section 279 covers rash or negligent driving on a public way, which can result in a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. A video of the car chase went viral on social media platforms. Sabah Law Society to monitor inquest into Zara Qairina's death
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Law Society (SLS) will closely monitor the inquest and any subsequent legal proceedings into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, in the public interest. SLS president Datuk Mohamed Nazim Maduarin said they welcomed the Attorney-General's Chambers' (A-GC) decision to direct an inquest under Section 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code. An inquest is an independent judicial process that will examine the cause and circumstances of death, determine whether any criminal elements were involved, and ensure that all relevant facts are brought to light. Zara, 13, was found unconscious at her school, SMKA Tun Mustapha in Papar on July 16 and declared dead the following day at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here. "Our commitment is clear: justice must be done, and it must be seen to be done because when our children are not safe, nothing else matters. "The findings of the inquest will form the basis for the A-GC to decide whether prosecutions should be initiated. "We remind the public that whether or not prosecutions follow will ultimately depend on these findings and the sufficiency of evidence in law. "This sequence is essential to preserve the integrity of the justice process," he said in a statement. Mohamed also said SLS would like to remind everyone that bullying, whether physical, verbal, psychological, or online, has no place in any environment, least of all in schools. He added SLS through its Community Empowerment and Protection Subcommittee, which leads their initiatives on bullying prevention and response, will work with all stakeholders in Sabah to create safer educational environments. He said the recent amendments to the Penal Code (Sections 507B–G) represent a critical step forward in combating such conduct, criminalising a wide range of abusive behaviours and imposing serious penalties where they cause harm, including attempted or completed suicide.

Tawau Maritime Zone Director Captain (Maritime) Ariffin Ghazali said it took place in the waters off Wallace Bay, Sebatik Island, on Wednesday night. 'The vessel was first detected 2.1 nautical miles northwest of the Sungai Tongkang estuary during Ops Pluto Timur, Ops Sejahtera and Ops Tiris around 8.20pm,' he said, Thursday. Ariffin said preliminary checks revealed that the vessel was operated by three local men, aged between 40 and 66, serving as skipper and crew members. A check on the documentation showed the skipper had failed to report a change of crew, as one of the individuals was not listed in the crew register stated on the vessel's operating licence. 'The vessel and its skipper were brought to the Tawau Maritime Zone Jetty for investigation under the the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 (MSO 1952) for breaching the conditions of a valid licence,' he said. The palm fruit was not seized as it had a valid licence certified by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB). The case has been referred to the Marine Department for compound action, as all crew members must hold competency certificates to operate the vessel safely. Ariffin reminded vessel owners and operators to adhere to the conditions of their valid licence, stressing that no compromise would be made regarding such violations. 'The maritime community must remain vigilant and ensure that all licensing conditions are met, failing which stern action will be taken against them,' he said. He added that the MMEA will continue to strengthen enforcement within Malaysian maritime zones, particularly in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone), to combat unlawful activities.
