‘Takopi's Original Sin' Sets An Audience Score Record On IMDB

Forbesa day ago
If you're looking for a new anime to watch, you should be alerted to a one that has suddenly set a full-on record on IMDB. That would be Takopi's Original Sin.
Takopi's Original Sin currently has a 9.1/10 overall on IMDB, but past that, it has set a record as the only anime to have all of its episodes (six so far) to have over a 9.0 rating. We have:
As you can see, if you average all those figures, that actually is more than a 9.1/10 that the show has gotten overall. Based on these episodes, the average is a 9.5/10, in fact. Over on Rotten Tomatoes there are…not critic or audience scores in to give out any figures. But IMDB has thousands in for each episode.
So, is this true? You can look up some of the other most popular animes ever, and ones like Attack on Titan or Demon Slayer or the more recent Solo Leveling all have at least some episodes in any given season below a 9.0.
What's Takopi's Original Sin all about? Here's the synopsis:
As you may expect, this was originally based on a Japanese web manga series before being turned into an anime, and it has aired from June to August of this year. With the last episode now out, that's how we manage to get these scores. It's true that individually, a show like Attack on Titan has some of the highest scored episodes in IMDB history, anime or not, but so far, Takopi doesn't even have anything close to being below a 9.0 in its first season here. Perhaps that would change with a second season, but that wouldn't' be for a while yet. You can currently watch season 1 on Crunchyroll where, you guessed it, it has sky-high user scores, a 4.9/5 with 35,000 reviews in already.
So, with just six episodes, it certainly seems worth checking out what all the fuss is about. I'll be doing so in short order here.

Forget the Steam Deck, this 12.5-inch handheld can play games at 4K 100FPS

TL;DR A modder has created a handheld gaming PC with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. The handheld's display is 12.5 inches with a 4K resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. It's capable of running God of War (2016) in 4K resolution at 100FPS. Handheld gaming PCs are getting more powerful all the time. However, they still can't replace the level of performance you get from a full-on gaming laptop. Or can they? One modder has taken that idea and put it to the test. A Bilibili creator who goes by Qingchen DIY has built a giant 12.5-inch handheld gaming PC (h/t El Chapuzas Informatico). But it's not the size that's impressive, it's the fact that the modder fitted it with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. Along with that high-end GPU, there's also a 24-core Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU. The system is also equipped with a 12.5-inch IPS touch display with a 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels), 64GB of DDR5 RAM, and 2TB of storage. It's safe to say that the power behind this device easily surpasses the top names in the market, like Valve's Steam Deck and ASUS' ROG Ally X. You could even say this system is more of a laptop that was simply converted into a handheld. But what can this beast of a handheld actually do? In the video, the modder shows the device running Cyberpunk 2077 in 4K resolution at 60FPS. That's not bad considering that other handhelds tend to struggle running the title at just 1080p, with upscaling technologies helping out. What's even more impressive is that at one point, the modder shows the device running God of War (2016) in 4K at above 100FPS. As you can imagine, this is likely a pretty power-hungry device. It appears this device relies on an external power source. However, it does also have a built-in 50Wh battery. While it would be fun to give this system a try, we'll probably stick with our Steam Deck. A 12.5-inch handheld would be a bit unwieldy for most hands. Follow

Horror Fans Are Raving About The New Film, "Weapons"

For those who don't know me, my personality is basically five things: classic and contemporary lit, show tunes, Taylor Swift, sitcoms, and…HORROR MOVIES. I live for a good spook, a solid gasp, and that full-on shaking in my boots kind of film. It's my favourite reminder that I'm alive — all while watching the undead. So when Zach Cregger — the brilliant mind behind one of my faves, Barbarian — dropped his new horror flick, Weapons, guess who was there opening night, front row? This girl. Don't worry, there will be NO spoilers ahead! For those who haven't heard much about the movie, here's the IMDb rundown: When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at the exact same time, the community is left wondering who — or what — is behind it. I know, pretty compelling. The film also stars some serious faves: Julia Garner (Ozark, The Fantastic Four: First Steps), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men, Avengers), and Benedict Wong (Avengers, Annihilation, The Martian). So I knew I was in for a treat. But still, when I walked in, I told myself, 'Don't ruin your night with high expectations,' and 'Barbarian is a perfect horror film — it's okay if this one doesn't follow suit.' Basically, all the self-soothing tactics grown-ass adults use to parent themselves. So I took a deep breath (knowing I'd be holding it for the next 2 hours and 8 minutes) and opened my mind to whatever chaos was about to unfold. And lemme tell you... My lungs got a full workout from all the gasping, breath-holding, and heavy breathing. They were so sore, it felt like I'd just run a marathon. And don't get me started on my brain hurting from all the mind-effs. Every time I thought I had a grip on the plot or guessed the ending, it swerved again. I was dizzy with amazement — each twist better than the last. So since I had such a blast, of course, the minute the credits rolled, I was already scouring the internet to see what other folks were saying. And I must say, people are raving — and their reactions are keeping my post-movie high going strong. Here's what folks are gushing about: So, what do you think — will you be seeing the new horror flick Weapons? I know I'm biased, but the internet speaks for itself…it's awesome. If you've already seen it, drop your rating as a letter grade in the comments (no spoilers, please). I'll start: A+++. Check out our interview with Julia Garner for Weapons here, and make sure you follow BuzzFeed Canada on TikTok and Instagram for more!

Hulu's Best New Show Has A Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

If you're looking for a new show to watch early in the week here, there's a new one that's landed on Hulu, throwing back to a storied franchise in a way that is far from a cheap cash-in. That would be Alien: Earth on Hulu, yet another Alien project and not that long after Alien: Romulus, but it's the first TV series in its history. It is also extremely good, and I've even heard it being called 'The Andor of Alien.' Certified fresh with a full 62 reviews in, Alien: Earth has a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's not only good for the current TV moment, but that means it is tied as the best-reviewed Alien project ever. That's a tie with Alien at 94%, and just above Aliens at 93%. We're talking projects that were released almost 40 years ago. Here's the list: I wrote an article similar to this about a week ago, but back then, Alien: Earth was at a 90% and in third place instead. Now, with more reviews in, the score has only gone up, which is not really what you see normally with a show like this. What's this all about anyway? Here's the synopsis, as the show takes place two years before the original 1979 film: Interestingly, the only real 'name' in the cast here is Justified's Timothy Olyphant, with the rest of the cast being lower-profile. But the name behind it all is Noah Hawley, who has done some of the wildest FX/Hulu shows to date from Legion to Fargo. Now, he's set his sights on Alien which is now reviewing better than any of them. This isn't a binge release, as that's not usually how Hulu rolls (except The Bear). It has a double episode premiere today, and the rest of the eight episodes will air through the end of September. A second season has not been greenlit yet, but if it performs well, I would expect that to happen. So far as we know, this is not planned as a limited series. This is going to be a good one. I'll have my own review in shortly. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.
