George reveals 'best decision' of his Chelsea career
Teenage winger Tyrique George says a family sacrifice when he was 12 was the "best decision" in helping his ascent to become a Chelsea player. The now 19-year-old, who scored in Wednesday's 3-0 win over ES Tunis that helped Chelsea make the last 16 at the Club World Cup, described moving from Camden to Croydon as a boy was "tough" because he "didn't want to move". However, now he recognises the move was pivotal to his career and saved his mother, who worked as a teacher, undertaking multiple gruelling journeys after work between Chelsea's Surrey training base and north London. "I used to get the train with my mum from Camden to Cobham after school both there and back, which was really long," George said. "I've got no clue what lines we took. I'd just get on the train with mum. She put in all those hours for me. She didn't have to do it. She took me to training after she'd finished work, there and back - tired. "She's a teacher. Training would be an an hour and a half. We'd get back late, but it was worth it."Eventually, like many talented youngsters in Chelsea's academy, George was offered the chance to move to south Croydon, nearer the club's training base. But George admits it was not an easy decision to make, adding: "I was living in Camden and then I moved to south Croydon when I was 12 to another school. It was a tough move, to be fair. I didn't really want to move to south Croydon. I left behind most of my mates. "I was emotional. All my friends were in north London, so me moving away to a completely new area was tough. But I eventually enjoyed it and it was closer to training so after a month or two, it wasn't too bad."It was worth it. I think it was the best decision I ever made."George is now paying his family back having made his 26th appearance of the season but he could be sent out on loan for 2025-26 with Chelsea looking to sign at least one further attacker this summer. Asked about the possibility, he said: "I'm not really too sure. There's always going to be competition whether they do sign one or not. I'm always ready to learn from them. Justin Tucker will reportedly be suspended for the first 10 weeks of the NFL regular season for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Tucker has been embroiled in a sexual misconduct scandal involving several massage therapists in the Baltimore area, leading to his release from the Baltimore Ravens last month. Tucker had been viewed as one of the NFL's best kickers before his off-the-field trouble began. Now, his prospects of being signed have dwindled even further for the 35-year-old due to the hefty suspension, per the Washington Post. Earlier this year, the married football player was accused of sexual misconduct by 16 massage therapists from across eight spas and wellness centers in the Baltimore area. Tucker has denied any wrongdoing and previously branded the accusations 'shocking and heart-breaking'. But on May 5, the Ravens made the 'tough decision' to release him. Speaking for the first time since the release, head coach Harbaugh maintained Wednesday that the move was a 'football decision' last month. 'I mean, you're talking about arguably the best kicker in the history of the game,' Harbaugh said, via ESPN. 'And like we said, it's multi-layered [and] it's complicated. But in the end, it all comes back to what you have to do to get ready for your team to play the first game.' 'And I think if you step back and you take a look at all the issues and all the ramifications, you can understand that we've got to get our football team ready and we've got to have a kicker to go. And that was the move that we decided to make. So in that sense, it's a football decision and now we have to spend all of our focus and our time to get these kickers ready.' 'We've got a competition going on and [we've got to] get these guys ready to make kicks. So that's all I'm thinking about. From my perspective, it's like, "We have to have a kicker out there making kicks and what's the best way to get that done?"' In a statement announcing Tucker's release, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta made no mention of the allegations, instead heaping praise on Tucker, a Super Bowl champion who had been with the Ravens since 2012. DeCosta's comments came under intense scrutiny. Among the allegations leveled against Tucker are that he repeatedly - and deliberately - exposed his erect genitals. Two therapists claim he brushed them with his penis. More than once, meanwhile, the kicker is accused of leaving what appeared to be ejaculate on the massage table. Back in February, it was reported that NFL investigators visited Baltimore to interview therapists who had made the bombshell claims about the Ravens kicker. Around the same time, DeCosta called the allegations 'serious and concerning' and refused to rule out terminating Tucker's contract.
