Louisiana inmate dies of natural causes before March execution date
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An 81-year-old death row inmate died in the Louisiana State Penitentiary after spending over 30 years on death row.
Christopher Sepulvado passed away at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola. According to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Sepulvado's death was due to natural causes, stemming from complications related to pre-existing medical conditions.
Sepulvado had been in the custody of the Louisiana Department of Corrections since May 24, 1993, after being convicted of first-degree murder in DeSoto Parish.

Just one day before, on Feb. 21, the DPS&C received an execution warrant for Sepulvado, with an execution date set for March 17.

Louisiana Senate approves bill expanding ‘hands-free' driving
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Louisiana Senate approved a bill that expands upon current state law that prevents texting and driving. The current law outlaws texting while driving, but HB 519, introduced by State Rep. Brian Glorioso, would also make it illegal to post or scroll through social media while driving. The bill would also outlaw accessing, posting, or creating a video or photograph while behind the wheel. The bill does make an exception for contacting law enforcement to report a crash, medical emergency, or to report a crime in progress. The Louisiana House of Representatives approved the bill in May. Baton Rouge man accused of putting tracking device on woman's vehicle
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An investigation by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office (EBRSO) led to the discovery of a tracking device on a vehicle and landed one man in jail on multiple charges. Cory Theriot, 55, of Baton Rouge, was charged with one count of prohibited usage of tracking device(s), identity theft, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, and telephone communications; improper language; harassment. EBRSO started the investigation on the morning of May 23, 2025. Theriot is accused of illegally entering a home in an effort to reach a woman. According to the affidavit, the man allegedly continued to contact the victim excessively via social media and telephone. An arrest warrant was then issued for Theriot, EBRSO said. The woman took her vehicle to a dealership because Theriot appeared to know where she was earlier that day. An employee at the dealership 'found a stand-alone tracking device attached to the metal rear bumper cross support,' according to the affidavit.
