National TVET Day kicks off in Melaka with over 41,000 visitors
MELAKA: The National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day 2025 celebration got off to a rousing start yesterday, drawing 41,830 visitors as of 8 pm.
Deputy Prime Minister and National TVET Council chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the strong turnout indicated that the target of attracting 150,000 visitors to the three-day event could be achieved.
'We hope more people will attend, and we invite the public, especially youths and technical field enthusiasts, to come and learn more about the potential of TVET,' he told reporters after a walkabout at the event, held at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh today.
Earlier, he was accompanied by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and other state leaders as they visited over 50 exhibition booths and a range of competitions featuring student and agency participants.
Held for the first time in Melaka under the theme 'TVET: The Preferred Career Choice', the event was subsequently launched today by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, along with the launch of the High-Impact TVET Programme Initiative on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity.
A variety of activities will be held during the event, including seminars, workshops and competitions centred on innovation, technology and technical skills.
Twelve ministries are involved in organising the celebration, including the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Human Resources, and Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).
National TVET Day 2025 also highlights the involvement of four key pillars in the sector: industry, institutions, non-governmental organisations, and both federal and state government agencies.

Perak PMR 2025 kicks off today
LUMUT: The Perak Madani Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 kicked off today at Lumut Waterfront with a wide array of engaging activities and interactive events, featuring participation from various ministries, federal agencies, and the state government for the benefit of visitors. According to its Information Booklet, the programme is set to begin at 9 am with the 'Prelude Program Jelajah Nyalaan Bara Api bersama Cikgu Saarani', which is expected to be launched by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, marking the official opening of the three-day event. In line with the theme 'Pendidikan Tinggi Pemacu Negara Madani', the involvement of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) is one of the main highlights through its Pelita Budiman and TVET Tahfiz @ UPSI segments, which showcase educational innovations and skills development for tahfiz students. The programme also features educational and interactive content, including the STEM Pocket Talk by the Ministry of Education, which introduces an inquiry-based approach to learning mathematics through a session titled 'Meneroka Nilai Pi (π)'. Another highlight is the 'Perisai Buat Wanita' programme, organised by the Perak State Secretary's Office (PSUK), which is scheduled for the afternoon and aims to empower women. In addition, visitors also stand a chance to win various attractive prizes through lucky draws organised by the Higher Education Ministry and the National Unity Ministry. The first evening of Perak PMR 2025 will be enlivened with a 'Madani Berselawat' session. Perak PMR 2025 runs from 9am to 10pm on Friday and Saturday, and until 6pm on Sunday. Government service booths will operate daily until 6pm only. Perak is the second state to host the large-scale programme, organised through a strategic collaboration between the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) under the Prime Minister's Department and the Ministry of Higher Education as the lead ministry. Budding technopreneurs have govt's full support, says Zahid
MELAKA: Students undertaking Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) should consider becoming technopreneurs, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister said TVET offers promising opportunities in the entrepreneurship sector. Government support is essential in realising such potential, he said. 'We are grateful for the growing trust of parents (in TVET) today. That is why we must find new ways to nurture and transform the mindset of TVET students into future technopreneurs.' Ahmad Zahid said to date, TVET institutions under Majlis Amanah Rakyat have produced 50 TVET millionaires. Speaking at the 2025 National TVET Day celebration, he said as Malaysia moves towards becoming a developed nation, the involvement of all parties in driving the country's progress must be properly coordinated. This is especially to help groups that are often seen as marginalised within the country's education system, he said. 'For instance, the National TVET Council has taken the responsibility to recruit huffaz students to join TVET so that their future can be better secured,' he said, Bernama reported. The Deputy Prime Minister cited examples, including huffaz students enrolled at Universiti Kuala Lumpur's aerospace and maritime affairs faculties as well as at Universiti Tenaga Nasional. 'The response has been quite good (from the huffaz) and we welcome their contributions to building this country,' he said.
