A FORMER amusement park in Bournemouth used to be home to "Europe's largest model landscape" with Big Ben and a mechanical Tower Bridge.
The model village of Tucktonia opened back in 1976 and included an array of different landmarks such as Admiralty Arch, Hadrian's Wall and Stonehenge.

Some of the models even moved, including Tower Bridge, which opened and closed to allow boats to pass through.
A model of an airport also was mechanical with planes actually travelling along the runway.
But the model village didn't just feature big landmarks, it also had a Cornish village, Kellogg's factory and a motorway flyover.
At the time, the attraction was dubbed "the best of Britain in Miniature", according to an advert for the destination.

One woman, Emma Cansdale from Waltham Abbey used to visit regularly as a child.
The 52-year-old told Sun Travel: "As an eight-year-old it was like a mini wonderland.
"Back then I loved the quaintness of model villages and miniature railways.
Emma added: "I remember it was a hot summer day spent following the map to find the different attractions and eating ice cream."

Across the village, there were over 200 models made from fibre glass and steel and it cost £2million to develop - about £13.5million now.
The attraction took two years in total to plan and build.

And for little ones, there was Railriders club - which Emma was part of.
"One of the reasons we went to Tucktonia was to pick up a sticker for my Railriders sticker book as they were participating in that scheme," Emma added.

Old maps of Tucktonia Leisure Park that Emma has, show what featured at the 21acre site.
And it wasn't just the model village - it also had a number of other attractions including fairground rides, a fun slide, boating lake, an amusement arcade, crazy golf, a go-kart track and a mini cinema.
One leaflet even claims the park was home to "Europe's largest model landscape".
Another poster claims it was "the greatest model Britain in the world".

According to Dorset Life, some famous faces made appearances at the park too.
Comedian and magician Tommy Cooper and actor Jon Pertwee visited in 1978.
Keith Chegwin and Maggie Philbin also hosted the BBC's Multi-Coloured Swap Shop live from the park.

Then in 1985, it was used as a film set for the alien movie Lifeforce - a sci-fi horror by Tobe Hooper, who also created The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Some believe that a number of the models were destroyed as part of the filming, whilst others claim that whilst the village was used as a set, the buildings destroyed in the film were actually different models created by the visual effects team.

In 1980, Alton Towers opened and many believed that this immediately had an impact on the number of visitors at Tucktonia.

In the following years, the park changed ownership more than once and then in 1986, the park closed - just a decade after the model village had first opened.
The site's buildings and fixtures were then all cleared to make the land available for a pub.
In 2003, the site then transformed again into a number of retirement flats and homes.
One fan of the park commented on social media: "What a fab place it was... Big childhood memories, very sad when it closed."

Another added: "Absolutely loved Tucktonia. As a child these places were so exciting."
There is also an abandoned £118million fairytale theme park that would have been a Disneyland rival – but closed after four years.
Plus, Universal's UK theme park plans have dropped – here's what you can expect including nightclubs and film studios.

Cox also admitted his connection to the city has been "severed" following the loss of his older sister Betty, who died at the age of 92 in 2023. The actor told the Big Issue magazine: "I'm 79 and I'm old enough to remember walking down the high street when [lightweight boxer] Dick McTaggart won gold at the 1956 Olympics in Australia. "I have this memory of him riding through the streets on top of the tram with his cup. "The town was lively then. "It was poor, but it had character. "Now the high street of Dundee is an absolute f*****g disgrace, just as it was in the '50s when they started sending people out into the schemes, which had no amenities and nothing to encourage community. "I lost half my class in 1956 when they all went off to the schemes." In the 1950s, Dundee built new council housing for working-class families, many of which were built on the outskirts of the city. Cox said he was "bereft" when Dundee citizens were moved out of the city centre, adding: "This lack of thinking still irritates me and it's constant. Scottish Premiership club enlist Hollywood superstar to sell their £95M new stadium and hotel plans "I met Dundee's Lord Provost recently and he told me he wanted to get people back into the city, I told him they should never have taken them out in the first place. "The damage that was done is the problem for all these new towns now. "You alienate people and effectively put them in open prisons." Cox added: "My connection to the place has been severed. "The reason I used to come back to Dundee was because of my oldest sister, Betty, and she passed away a few years ago. "So coming back has been sad, because now I want to see her and she's not here."

Maya Jama returns to Love Island for savage dumping as fans ‘work out' who goes home
Viewers are furious with one couple SHE'S BACK Maya Jama returns to Love Island for savage dumping as fans 'work out' who goes home Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MAYA Jama revealed she is returning to the Love Island villa - and fans have worked out who goes home next. Her return traditionally signals a major dumping in the ITV2 series. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 4 Maya Jama hosted AfterSun last night Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 4 Maya headed off again today Maya told Aftersun viewers last night that she was heading back to Majorca this week. Taking to social media today, Maya told fans: "Legit three hours sleep and I'm off again." Viewers have already begun speculating which Islanders may be at risk of being dumped from the villa. One penned on Reddit: "I think people leaving could honestly be Emma & Boris. "Because the favourite people are gonna be thinking that Angel has just entered & hasn't had much time on the show. "Whereas, Emma has explored already. I see more chemistry with Angel & Ty instead of Emma & Boris. Why Boris? "Dont think they will dump Dejon even after how he's acted since he does have an exclusive relationship." Another said over on X: "From all The votes so far I fear it's Emma and Boris that'd be dumped, haven't seen anyone voting for them. Meg and Dejon live to fight another day sigh." One more speculated: "I have no doubt in my mind that this is probably going to be a vote where Dejon will be in the bottom BUT he won't leave. "It's absolutely a vote to get rid of the ones who aren't going anywhere - Emma & Boris watch out." Love Island fans demand 'get her out' as they slam girl as 'liar' after she's confronted in tense scenes Casa Amor stud Boris won his place in the main villa after striking up a potential romance with Billykiss Azeez, who brought him back with her. However, now he's moved on with fellow Casa bombshell Emma Munro – with the pair even sneaking off to the Hideaway for some private time and a snog in the pool. He also officially broke things off with Billykiss, and she's moved on with Cach. But fans have become convinced that Boris deliberately used Billykiss to get into the villa, using his charm on her only to ditch her once he had secured his spot. Branding him "horrid", viewers have been saying for more than a week now that he should be on the "next plane home" as they vented on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit. "Boris used Billykiss. I was never falling for that propaganda. Get him out. #LoveIsland" wrote one. "Boris wym finally… imma make sure ur ass is on the first flight back to Slovenia," said another. "Send both boris and emma home, they made it easy for the viewers #LoveIsland" noted a third. "Boris literally pretended to like Billykiss. Horrid," noted a fourth, while a fifth said: "Boris playedddd Billykiss to get into the villa icl [I can't lie] #loveisland" 4 Fans want Emma and Boris gone Credit: Eroteme

Will Sharpe reveals intense scene in Netflix hit Too Much left him bruised
Will Sharpe revealed he sustained a facial bruise and burst blood vessels while filming an intense, improvised scene for the new Netflix romcom miniseries Too Much. The 38-year-old British actor, known for The White Lotus, injured himself by repeatedly slapping his face during a breakdown scene with co-star Megan Stalter. Lena Dunham, who co-wrote and directed Too Much with her husband Luis Felber, instructed the actors to improvise the scene. Dunham cast Sharpe for his perceived 'curiosity and depth', believing he embodied the qualities desired for his character, Felix. The series, loosely inspired by Dunham and Felber's relationship, explores themes of adulthood and the challenges of a tumultuous relationship.
