Walkie-talkie listings on e-commerce platforms under fire, govt issues advisory to regulate illegal sales
A press release issued on 30 May states, 'The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, has notified Guidelines for the Prevention and Regulation of Illegal Listing and Sale of Radio Equipment including Walkie Talkies on E-Commerce Platforms, 2025.'
As districts sharing a border with Pakistan prepare for Operation Shield mock drill, which is scheduled to take place on 31 May, the government is undertaking measures to curb the unauthorised sale of wireless devices online that may pose risks to consumer safety.
It was observed that these wireless devices 'mislead consumers regarding their legal position and interfere with critical communication networks, including those used by law enforcement and emergency services'.
E-Commerce Platforms and sellers are strictly required to comply with the advisory that states, 'No radio equipment shall be listed or sold on e-commerce platforms if the possession or use of such equipment requires that a frequency assignment from the DOT shall be obtained by the buyer. Such equipment (licensed equipment) shall be purchased only from a dealer duly authorised by DOT (DPA holder) listed on the Saral Sanchar portal of DOT.'
Notably, the listing or sale of mobile signal boosters and wireless jammers online is illegal. Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan after the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, key regulatory and security concerns were raised that prompted the government to issue guidelines keeping in mind the safety of its citizens.
Walkie-talkie sellers are required to disclose necessary information such as frequency bands on product description.
Walkie-talkie sellers are required to disclose necessary information on digital marketing platforms such as frequency bands on product description, 'licensing obligations under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, or the Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933, and the Use of Low Power, Very Low Power Short Range Radio Frequency Devices (Exemption from Licensing Requirement) Rules'.

119 of 199 govt depts already digitised, to boost paperless governance: CM
New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said Delhi govt was digitising all its offices to accelerate the pace of administrative work. She stated that the e-Office platform has replaced traditional paper files with digital formats, making the workflow modern and efficient. Developed by the National Informatics Centre, Gupta said the e-Office platform showed remarkable results in July, with 119 of 199 departments of Delhi govt being fully operational on the platform, in comparison to just 43 in June. During the same period, the number of digital files used by these departments exceeded 1.18 lakh, marking a growth of over 250% compared to the previous month of June. The chief minister also noted that the e-Office system not only significantly reduced paper consumption but also made decision-making faster and more transparent. She said govt officials and staff in Delhi were now benefiting from digital file tracking, quicker approvals and immediate implementation of decisions. It was again promoted in July 2022, but the govt decided to put it on hold following poor adoption by various departments. It was again pushed by the BJP govt this time, and all departments were asked to switch to the digital movement of files. Gupta said training was provided to officials and staff at all levels to implement digitalisation in govt offices. "When all central govt offices are functioning on this system, the national capital must also adopt the e-Office platform. We are working in alignment with the vision of the Centre and PM Narendra Modi. This system ensures accountability and provides real-time updates on how long files are pending with any officer or department," the chief minister said. Highlighting the broader impact, Gupta said digitalisation was not just a technological change, it was a blend of administrative efficiency, transparency and environmental conservation. "Our goal is to ensure that every government task is swift, accurate and citizen-centric, and the e-Office platform is a major step in this direction," she said. Gupta added that now the legislative assembly was also being made paperless, which was a decisive step towards making Delhi's administration fully digital. PM Modi dedicates Operation Sindoor success to Lord Shiva
VARANASI: Invoking Lord Shiv's 'Rudra roop' (fierce form) to describe India's resolute action against terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday dedicated the success of Operation Sindoor to Lord Vishwanath and said it showcased the country's strength to the world and delivered a clear message that anyone who dares attack India will not be spared, not even in 'Pataal Lok'. Opening his address with chants of "Om Namah Parvati Pataye, Har Har Mahadev", the PM recalled the pain of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack . "My heart was filled with sorrow for the 26 people who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack," Modi said during his 51st visit to his Lok Sabha constituency. "My promise to avenge 'Sindoor' of our daughters was fulfilled with the blessings of Mahadev... I dedicate the success of the operation to the feet of Mahadev," the PM said. Addressing a public meeting in the Kalikadham area, Modi said, "The valour of Indian defence forces and blessings of Lord Vishwanath, who signifies 'welfare', but embodies the fierce form of Rudra and Kaal Bhairav when confronted with terror and injustice, made it possible to fulfil his promise to avenge the Sindoor of the daughters." The PM said the success of Operation Sindoor could not be digested by Congress and its 'chela-chapatas' (followers and alliance partners), and they are troubled that India destroyed terrorist bases in Pakistan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like For all your EV needs ScottishPower Learn More Undo "When the visuals showed how Indian drones precisely targeted and reduced terrorist headquarters to ruins, apart from destroying Pakistani air bases, like Pakistan — the mastermind of terrorism — the Congress and SP also started mourning. " Questioning whether Sindoor — the symbol of dignity and sacrifice — could ever be considered a spectacle, Modi said these opposition parties insulted the valour of the defence forces by terming Operation Sindoor a 'tamasha'. He asked whether the bravery of the armed forces and the fulfilment of a vow to avenge the sindoor of sisters could be trivialised in such a manner. Without taking any name, the PM said that for his vote-bank and appeasement politics, the leader of SP, who kept giving clean chits to terrorists and withdrew cases against those involved in bomb blasts during his regime in UP, questioned the timing of the elimination of the accused of the Pahalgam massacre in Parliament. Modi asked, "Whether the opposition leader wanted that he should be given a call before initiating this action or wait to enable terrorists to escape. " These parties are troubled by the elimination of terrorists and the name of Operation Sindoor, he said, adding that, "This is a new India — one that worships Lord Shiv and also knows how to embody the form of Kaal Bhairav against the country's enemies." Made-in-UP missiles to destroy Pak if it indulges in any misadventure: PM Mentioning how the world witnessed the power of India's indigenous weaponry and the effectiveness of India's air defence systems, missiles, and drones during Operation Sindoor, PM Modi said that the impact of BrahMos missiles not only instilled fear in the enemy but also demonstrated the progress being made under 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'. Modi said, "Soon, production of BrahMos missiles will begin in Lucknow... Major companies setting up their plants in the defence corridor of UP and starting to manufacture weapons will further strengthen our forces. If Pakistan commits another misdeed, missiles made in UP will destroy its terrorists." "With many major defence firms setting up their manufacturing plants in the UP defence corridor, made in India weapons will soon become the strength of our forces," he said. Photos recovered from an encounter site in 2024 helped identify Pahalgam terrorists
The three Pahalgam terrorists who were killed during Operation Mahadev on July 28 were identified and tracked with the help of photographs recovered from a mobile phone seized by the security forces after an encounter in south Kashmir in 2024, a senior government official said. The phone contained several pictures of the three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists identified as Suleman, alias Faizal Jatt, Hamza Afghani, and Zibran posing with guns and ammunition. Hid in Dachigam forest The photographs were then matched with the accounts of eyewitnesses present at the Baisaran meadow on April 22 and a search was launched for them in the Dachigam forest, around 20 km from Srinagar, where they were hiding after the terror attack. The terrorists were using a LoRa (long range) wireless module to communicate, and its signals helped the intelligence agencies track their device was likely assembled, and has been sent for forensic examination, the official said. Home Minister Amit Shah informed the Lok Sabha on July 29 that indigenous technology was used to track the three terrorists in the Dachigam forest. The Minister said that on May 22, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) received information about the presence of terrorists in the Dachigam area through human intelligence. He said 'continuous efforts were made by the IB and the Army from May 22 to July 22 to confirm the information with an equipment made by our agencies to capture ultra signals in Dachigam'. 'While all three are Pakistanis, Hamza Afghani belongs to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region in north-west Pakistan,' the official said. The official said the terrorists were sighted multiple times in the forest but they always managed to get away. Security forces combed the forests and monitored areas close to streams and rivers as the terrorists came there to fetch water. As reported by The Hindu, a group of 20-25 hardened terrorists from Pakistan infiltrated around three years ago and are said to be operating in the forest and mountains across Pir Panjal in Jammu and the forests in south Kashmir. In 2024, the foreign terrorists split into two groups, one led by Suleman who was killed during Operation Mahadev on July 28 and the other group led by another Pakistani identified as Musa. Since 2021, around 150 security personnel have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir, likely carried out by the same group. 'After Operation Mahadev, we have received crucial information about the other foreign terrorists and we have launched operations to track them down,' said the official.
