IAF Heritage Museum loses altitude as visitor inflow dips

Chandigarh: The initial burst of enthusiasm about the Indian Air Force Heritage Museum in the Tricity seems to be waning. The dedicated Air Force heritage centre launched by Union defence minister Rajnath Singh with much fanfare in May, 2023, has suffered a significant dip in footfall since its inception. Its expansion plan has also remained restricted to paper for over one year. "Initially, Indian Air Force and Chandigarh administration were in talks to expand the IAF Heritage Museum to start its second phase. Preparation of an MoU was discussed and both parties prepared points for the same. However, there has been no progress for more than one year," sources in the Chandigarh administration revealed. Despite the tourist centre boasting of modern paraphernalia like virtual and augmented reality, holograms, simulators, and electromechanical enclosures, the flow of visitors has gone down. Sources in the administration said that visitors from the Tricity thronged the IAF Heritage Museum initially but the inflow started thinning down. Now, most of the visitors are people from outside the Tricity. As per records of the Chandigarh administration, 58,273 people visited the Air Force Museum in the eight months from its inception on May 8, 2023 to December, 2023. From January, 2024 to December, 2024, the number of visitors at the museum located in the heritage building of the city in Sector 18, fell to 48,712. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? Vitauthority Learn More Undo The most drastic reduction was seen in the first six months of 2025, when only 22,586 people visited the centre from January, 2025 to June, 2025. According to records, Chandigarh administration earned significant revenue from the IAF Heritage Museum. From its launch in May 2023 to the end of July 2025, the authority earned over Rs 1.1 crore, including both entry fee of visitors as well as immersive experiences. Sunjay Kapur's sister Mandhira Kapur slams 'harsh' treatment of her 80-year-old mother after brother's death, calls move into Priya Sachdev Kapur's Delhi home ‘impractical'

Mandhira Kapur, sister of late Sona Comstar chairman Sunjay J Kapur, has hit out strongly at those sidelining her family in the wake of his sudden demise. In an emotional statement, she vowed to stand firmly by her 80-year-old mother, Rani Kapur, as they fight to keep the family's inheritance from being taken away. Sunjay Kapur's sudden passing Sunjay Kapur, who headed the Rs 30,000-crore mobility tech giant, collapsed while playing polo in London on June 12. The autopsy revealed cardiac arrest as the cause of death. Initial reports had speculated about a bee sting causing complications, adding to the family's shock and confusion. Cease-and-desist dispute with Rani Kapur Soon after, Sona Comstar sent a cease-and-desist notice to Rani Kapur. She alleged that she had been coerced into signing documents endorsing her daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev Kapur, as a non-executive director of the company. The company, however, claimed that Rani Kapur had not held shares since 2019. Mandhira Kapur called the move 'harsh' and said her mother, who built the company with her late husband, deserved respect. 'She's 80. How about just respecting the fact that her husband and she made this? Today you're telling this 80-year-old woman who's lost everything that she has nothing to do with this company? Is that fair?' She told NDTV. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? She admitted they too were 'finding out' details about trusts and shareholdings only through the media and well-wishers. On suggestions that her mother move into Priya Sachdev Kapur's Delhi home, Mandhira said it was 'impractical' at present: 'It is very tough for mum to even go back to that house. She is not emotionally ready to face the fact that she has lost her son.'
