Ranchi: The I-Day weekend turned Ranchi and its neighbouring destinations into a buzzing tourist circuit, as thousands of visitors poured into waterfalls, valleys, lakes, and resorts.
With three back-to-back holidays, families, students, and travel enthusiasts grabbed the window to escape into nature.
From Jonha, Dassam, and Hundru Falls to Patratu Valley and the misty plateau of Netarhat, popular sites were choked with vehicles. Roadside tea stalls and local eateries did brisk business, while dhabas on the Ranchi-Ramgarh stretch overflowed with customers.
"The monsoon makes the waterfalls come alive.
The spray of water at Dassam was so strong, it felt like a natural shower. I was not tired of clicking selfies," said Priyanka Gupta, a visitor from Ramgarh.
At Netarhat, also known as the 'Queen of Chotanagpur', tourists were disappointed at missing the famous sunrise and sunset views due to cloudy skies. But they quickly switched plans. "Since the skies are foggy, people are heading in large numbers to Jodh Falls, which has become the real crowd-puller this weekend," said Abdul Wahab, manager of the Jharkhand Tourism-run Prabhat Vihar Resort.

"All our 24 rooms were sold out on Friday and Saturday, and 22 were pre-booked for Sunday.

The boom was equally visible at Patratu Lake Resort, where boating and the view of the valley view kept tourists hooked. With 40 rooms booked for all three days, the resort saw a surge in revenue. "If you include the restaurant, entry tickets, and parking, our daily turnover has exceeded Rs lakh," said Jharkhand Tourism-run Lake Resort's manager, Arun Kumar.
However, the surge brought challenges too. To ensure safety, police tightened vigilance on the Patratu route. "We carried out helmet checks, stopped youngsters performing stunts, and kept a watch after recent reports of chain snatching. Our priority was to ensure tourists enjoy the valley without any fear," said Abhay Singh, officer-in-charge of Pithoria police station.
Despite the checks, the mood stayed festive. Families spread picnic sheets near Hundru, groups trekked around Jonha's trails, and couples enjoyed long drives through the valley's green curves. For many, the three-day break is less about the calendar and more about rediscovering Ranchi's monsoon magic.

IndiGo Aircraft Makes Safe Landing After Tail Strike This incident comes on the heels of another case where the tail of a Bangkok-bound IndiGo Airbus A321 struck the runway at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai due to inclement weather. The aircraft then circled back and landed safely on its second attempt. The airline reiterated that safety is its top priority and confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe. Just Days Earlier On Thursday, IndiGo cancelled flight 6E-360 from Delhi to Darbhanga after weather-related delays in the capital made it impossible to land within Darbhanga airport's limited operating hours. According to sources, the flight was originally scheduled to leave earlier in the day but was held back due to bad weather in Delhi. Since Darbhanga airport operates within specific time limits for runway use, the airline had no choice but to cancel the flight. Passengers were deboarded at Delhi Airport, though a small group briefly staged a protest on the tarmac. Landslides strand 200 tourists in Rudraprayag, disrupt highways in Uttarkashi
1 2 Dehradun/Uttarkashi: Heavy rain triggered multiple landslides in Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi on Sunday, stranding pilgrims and blocking key routes to Himalayan shrines. In Rudraprayag, approximately 200 tourists were stranded on the trek to the Madmaheshwar temple after a landslide occurred around 1 pm. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams reached the spot and began evacuating people. "By evening, about 150 tourists had been rescued and shifted to a safe location. The remaining will be evacuated soon," said SDRF officer Vinit Vaibhav. "The team is closely monitoring the situation at the spot to respond to any emergency." Meanwhile, traffic remained paralysed on the Gangotri National Highway, where fresh landslides near Nalupani kept the road blocked throughout the day.
