Germany through to Women's Euro semis after shootout win over France
German defender Kathrin Hendrich was sent off after 13 minutes for pulling an opponent's hair, and Grace Geyoro opened the scoring for France from the resulting penalty.
Germany hit back with a superb equaliser when Sjoeke Nuesken flashed a header from a Klara Buehl corner into the net in the 25th minute.
France had two goals ruled out for offside and Nuesken had a second-half penalty for the Germans saved.
With neither side able to fashion a goal in extra time, the game went to penalties, with Berger both firing home herself and then saving Alice Sombath's penalty to send Germany through.

Tennis-Sinner, Swiatek cruise through in Cincinnati second round
Aug 9, 2025; Cincinnati, OH, USA; Jannik Sinner (ITA) returns a shot against Daniel Elahi Galan (COL) during the Cincinnati Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-Imagn Images (Reuters) -Defending champion Jannik Sinner showed no signs of rust after a one-month break as he cruised past Colombian qualifier Daniel Galan 6-1 6-1 in the Cincinnati Open second round on Saturday, while third seed Iga Swiatek thumped Anastasia Potapova 6-1 6-4. World number one Sinner opted to take some time off after his Wimbledon win but was in pristine form at the ATP 1000 event after a first-round bye, producing just four unforced errors. He will next play Canadian Gabriel Diallo. "It's very difficult to play here, I feel like the ball is flying, it's very fast," the Italian told Tennis Channel after closing out the match in 59 minutes. "So when you lose confidence with a couple of shots, it makes it very, very difficult to play." Poland's Swiatek was back on top form after an early exit in Montreal as she sprinted through the first set and fended off four break points in the second. She next plays Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk, who she has defeated in all three previous meetings, in the third round of the U.S. Open tune-up tournament. Australian Open winner Madison Keys had a tougher opening to her Cincinnati campaign, saving two match points to survive against German Eva Lys with a 1-6 6-3 7-6(1) win to punch her ticket to the third round where she will play Japan's Aoi Ito. "I just kept trying to listen to everyone here cheering me," said American Keys, who triumphed in 2019 and clinched Saturday's affair with an unreturnable forehand. "It helped me get back into the match and across the finish line." Earlier on Saturday, Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech upset Norwegian 11th seed Casper Ruud 6-7(5) 6-4 6-2, while eighth-seeded Italian Lorenzo Musetti lost to France's Benjamin Bonzi 5-7 6-4 7-6(4). The action continues on Saturday when world number one Aryna Sabalenka plays Czech Marketa Vondrousova and fourth seed Taylor Fritz takes on Emilio Nava in an all-American clash. Rugby-Power display from England as they get ready for Women's Rugby World Cup
MONT-DE-MARSAN, France (Reuters) -England concluded preparations for their hosting of the Women's Rugby World Cup with a convincing away victory over France, winning 40-6 on Saturday in their last warm-up international before the tournament kicks off later in the month. England -- who have contested the last six World Cup finals, a run that includes their 2014 triumph -- produced a dominant performance and will be heading to the tournament brimming with confidence as they scored six tries without reply against their hosts. Morwenna Talling, Amy Cokayne and Maud Muir all went over in the first half as England put on an impressive display of forward power and Megan Jones and Lark Atkin-Davies (two) added second-half scores as a near-full strength English side proved far too strong for the French at Stade Andre-et-Guy-Boniface. Zoe Harrison kicked over five conversions while France's two penalties were slotted over by Morgane Bourgeois. The result made it 57 wins from their past 58 internationals, and a 16th win in a row over the French, for the English who kick off the World Cup with a Pool A clash against the United States in Sunderland on August 22. France, who have been third at seven of the nine previous World Cups but never reached a final, are in Pool D and meet Italy in their opening game at Exeter on August 23.
