Good afternoon
Hello and welcome to Telegraph Sport's Premier League Clockwatch. There are three games kicking off at 2pm, with Chelsea v Liverpool to follow at 4.30pm. The most important is probably at the Amex Stadium, where Brighton host Newcastle. Both teams are still fighting for a place in Europe next season, Brighton in the Europa Conference, Newcastle in the Champions League.
Brentford, who meet Manchester United at the Gtech Stadium, are also in the fight for a Conference League place. Man Utd can't quality for Europe through the Premier League but have one foot in the Europa League final after their stirring 3-0 win in Bilbao on Thursday.
Even with such a comfortable lead, Ruben Amorim – who has made no attempt to hide the fact the Europa League is his priority – is likely to make a number of changes today.
'We know that we have always a responsibility but in this moment we have to take a risk [with team selection]. There are some positions that we don't have more players. For example, Nous Mazraoui cannot play. He is at the limit to get an injury.
'We have always a responsibility to perform. We have always a responsibility of the result. But in this moment we have to be clear: our focus is more on saving players and trying to be competitive. It's not a good thing to say but we need to understand the context.'
There is every chance of an all-English final after Spurs' 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt in the other Europa League semi-final. Ange Postecoglou's side are at West Ham today; they will drop to 17th in the table if they lose.

BREAKING NEWS Sacked Premier League referee David Coote is charged by the FA after X-rated rant that saw him brand Jurgen Klopp a 'German ****'

Former Premier League referee David Coote has been charged by the FA over his rant aimed at Jurgen Klopp. Coote was sacked in December after a video emerged of him bashing former Liverpool boss Klopp, and a separate clip appeared to show him snorting a white powder in a hotel room while he was officiating at last summer's Euros. The astonishing initial video surrounding Klopp, which went viral on social media, appeared to show Coote looking worse for wear as he delivered an explicit rant about the Merseyside club. 'Liverpool were s***,' said the man alleged to be Coote in the video. '(Klopp is a) ****, absolute ****. Aside from having a right pop at me when I was refereeing them against Burnley in lockdown, he accused me of lying and then had a right f***ing pop of me. 'I have no interest in speaking to someone who is f***ing arrogant. So I do my best not to speak to him. (James) Milner is all right, I get on with him. You can see me there with a 'mask' on. But, my god, German ****, f*** me.' In a second video, he added: 'Just to be clear, that f***ing last video cannot go anywhere, seriously.' The FA have now revealed that Coote has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3. — FA Spokesperson (@FAspokesperson) June 17, 2025 A regulation and discipline update provided by the body read: 'David Coote has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to comments that he made about Jurgen Klopp in a video recorded around July 2020 which appeared on social media in November 2024. 'It's alleged that the referee acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words contrary to FA Rule E3.1.' The PGMOL found Coote's actions made his position as a Premier League official 'untenable' and the organisation headed up by Howard Webb terminated his employment with immediate effect late last year. Coote was then handed a 16-month ban by UEFA in February for violating 'the basic rules of decent conduct' and bringing 'the sport of football, and UEFA in particular, into disrepute'. Coote has rarely been seen in public since, but a report in The Sun earlier this month showed the former official enjoying a surprise new career. Coote has reportedly started working for the delivery company near his home in Newark in Nottinghamshire and opened up on his new role. 'I'm just trying to make an honest living,' he said. 'I want to get on with my life. I'm trying to move forwards and regain a sense of responsibility and purpose. The job is keeping me busy and occupied, it's not a new long-term career.

David Coote hit with two FA charges for Jurgen Klopp rant as shamed referee is accused of aggravated breach of rules

DAVID COOTE has been hit with two FA charges for his rant about Jurgen Klopp. The shamed referee has been accused of an aggravated breach of FA rules following an infamous video showing him hitting out at the ex-Liverpool manager. 1 In the viral video, he referred to Liverpool as "s***" and extraordinarily dropped the C-bomb to describe ex-Reds boss Klopp. Coote said: "Liverpool were s*** . Klopp is an absolute c***. "Aside from having a right pop at me when I was refereeing them against Burnley in lockdown, he accused me of lying and then had a right f***ing pop of me. "I have no interest in speaking to someone who is f***ing arrogant. So I do my best not to speak to him. James Milner is all right, I get on with him. "You can see me there with a 'mask' on. But, my god, German c***, f*** me." THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY..

Shelbourne and Linfield paired in mouthwatering Champions League cross-border qualifier

It's an all-Irish derby in the first round of Champions League qualifying between Damien Duff and David Healy's teams Shelbourne and Linfield are set to clash in an historic Champions League qualifier that pits two Irish sides against each other. And in an intriguing sub-plot, it will be former Celtic coach Damien Duff against ex- Rangers midfielder David Healy in the dugouts. ‌ Duff led Shelbourne to an upset league title last season and they entered today's first qualifying round draw knowing there was a chance of an all-Irish derby against Linfield, the longstanding dominant force in Northern Irish football. ‌ And so it's proved with the sides set to meet first in Dublin on Tuesday July 8 or Wednesday July 9 with the second leg at Windsor Park a week later. It will be the second cross-border clash in a year with Shamrock facing Larne in the Conference League in October. But the stakes are higher this time with the champions from both divisions facing in a qualifier for UEFA's top competition. Linfield stormed to the Irish Premiership title last season as is the norm while Shelbourne upset the odds when they won the League of Ireland Premier Division under the tutelage of Duff, who previously served as a coach at Celtic Park. The tie has huge financial implications for the team with the winner guaranteed at least two more Champions League qualifying matches – one of which at home. It comes 20 years after the teams met in the inaugural all-Ireland Setanta Cup final, with Linfield triumphant at Tolka Park. ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
