A Queensland festival descended into chaos on Sunday night when a fireworks display began misfiring, with rogue fireworks launching towards terrified families in the grandstand.
In footage shared on social media, children can be heard screaming and people are seen scrambling out of the way as fireworks explode in and around the crowd at the Jimboomba Family Carnival in Logan, outside of Brisbane.
One man said a firework detonated just 10 metres away from him and his family while another shot into the grandstand as children began crying and families fled.
A man in his 40s was struck in the leg and suffered minor burns according to 7 News. No other injuries have been reported.
The fireworks display, which is now in its second year, has been cancelled for Monday evening's festival and organisers are investigating the incident.
'We have been made aware of an issue regarding the fireworks display last night,' a spokesman for the Jimboomba Family Carnival said in a statement.
'We are investigating this matter alongside our on-site first aid, the operator and all relevant authorities.
'We have cancelled [Monday night's] display to allow this investigation to take place and ensure everyone's continued safety & enjoyment of the carnival.'

Resources Safety and Health Queensland has launched a formal investigation. 7NEWS cameras captured exclusive vision of inspectors visiting the pyrotechnics provider ACE Fireworks. The business of Robert Stevenson has decades of experience in the industry. He declined an on-camera interview but told 7NEWS via phone they are holding all the necessary permits. 'It was never anyone hurt and we always had all permits, and it was only one other little girl, who said she had the corner of her hair burned and she is as good as gold,' Stevenson said. Logan Mayor Jon Raven also weighed in after viewing the incident online, describing it as 'shocking' and confirming, is was not a Council event. Date set for coroner to probe horrific 1978 Spear Creek killings in Qld outback

A date has been set for a coroner to probe the cold case deaths of three people who were gunned down in the Queensland outback, with a court being told an 'extensive' brief of evidence would only be ready one month before the hearing. More than 40 years after Karen Edwards, 23, her boyfriend Timothy Thomson, 31, and their friend Gordon Twaddle, 21, were found dead in the Gulf Country region of Queensland, Coroner David O'Connell is set to examine the mysterious circumstances surrounding how they died and the adequacy of the police investigation. Ms Edwards, Mr Thomson and Mr Twaddle were found in bushland with gunshot wounds at Spear Creek, near Mt Isa, in October 1978. The trio were on a motorcycle trip around Australia when they were killed. Cold case investigators, with the assistance of Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch, began a review into the unsolved 40-year-old homicide investigation in 2018. A year later, Bruce John Preston, a retired senior prison officer at NSW's Goulburn Supermax jail, was arrested and charged with the group's murders. But in 2023, the Crown dropped all charges against him after determining it could no longer prosecute the case. Mr Preston has denied any involvement in the trio's deaths and maintains his innocence. A second pre-inquest conference into the murders began on Tuesday afternoon at the Brisbane Coroners Court, where dates were formally set for the renewed inquest to go ahead. Amelia Hughes, counsel assisting the coroner, said the preparation of the brief of evidence was still under way due to ongoing investigations. It was initially indicated the brief would be ready by July. However, Ms Hughes said it would now be ready by September 8 – a month before the nine-day inquest would start, on October 7. The court was told one of the issues the coroner would need to consider was the adequacy of the police investigations into the deaths of Ms Edwards, Mr Thomson and Mr Twaddle both at the time and during the renewed investigation in 2019. A further date for oral submissions was set down for October 22.

Chante Lee White gets life sentence for murder of Kayla Golding in Townsville

A north Queensland woman has been given a life sentence for the fatal stabbing of her former roommate at their apartment in Townsville more than four years ago. Chante Lee White, now 33, was found guilty of the murder of Kayla Golding on May 21, 2021, by a jury in Townsville's Supreme Court. Throughout the trial, her defence had argued White, who had pleaded not guilty, was under the influence of drugs and did not intend to kill Ms Golding. Police found White hiding in a cupboard two days after the stabbing and told officers at the time she "simply did not know" what happened to Ms Golding. The court heard White murdered Ms Golding, 29, with a hunting knife, which caused an 86 millimetre wound to her neck. Crown prosecutor Monique Sheppard said the pair had been involved in a dispute about White's partner. "The murder was callous; while it involved a single slicing wound to the neck, it was a significant injury with force involving an inherently dangerous weapon," she said. "The offending was a deliberate and intentional act. "The defendant showed callousness when she fled the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services and hid from police for two days." Ms Sheppard said in a recent hearing after her conviction, White told the victim's family to "go die in a hole …" as she left the courtroom. "The defendant has shown no remorse," she said. Defence barrister Harvey Walters told the court his client had a troubled background and was deeply remorseful. In a victim impact statement read aloud by the prosecution, Ms Golding's father, Russell Miller, said he was forever reliving the visit from police when they informed him his daughter had died. "He misses being able to share life's milestones as well as life's small joys that come with being a parent," Ms Sheppard said. Ms Golding's mother, Michelle, told the court she struggled to enjoy life after the loss of her daughter. "To try to plan the funeral for my only child is a pain I would not wish on anyone else," she said. "My whole family and my future family were stolen from me on that night. On Tuesday, Justice David North sentenced White to life imprisonment. "Yours was a violent killing. You showed no remorse," he said. "Your actions in attempting a clean up and disposing of the knife suggest that you tried to cover your deeds in an attempt to escape justice. As the sentence was handed down, cheers erupted from the courtroom, which was packed with Ms Golding's family and supporters. Speaking outside the courthouse, Michelle Golding said Kayla's memory would "live on forever". She welcomed the sentencing but said it would "never bring Kayla back". "I feel like two bricks have been taken off my shoulders," Michelle said. Justice North declared that 1,542 days spent in pre-sentence custody by White would be deemed time already served and made no declarations of parole.
