Naperville News Digest: Will County reports first mosquitoes with West Nile virus; tickets available for Naper Nights concert featuring WAR

Chicago Tribune30-06-2025
The Will County Health Department has announced that mosquitoes collected in Joliet have tested positive for West Nile virus.
No human cases of the virus have been reported in Will this year, and this is the first batch of mosquitoes to have tested positive in the county, a health department news release said.
West Nile virus has been found in 22 counties throughout Illinois this year, and one human case was reported in southern Illinois.
West Nile virus typically causes mild, flu-like symptoms, though about 80% of people who are infected do not develop any symptoms, the release said. About 20% of those infected will develop a fever, headache, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea or rash.
About 1 in 150 people who are infected develop a serious illness that affects the central nervous system, such as inflammation of the brain or inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord, the release said.
County health officials urge residents to be cautious when outdoors and protect themselves from mosquito-borne diseases.

JFK grandson Jack Schlossberg wears wig to troll Melania Trump

John F. Kennedy's grandson Jack Schlossberg donned a blonde wig and spoke in a strong Eastern European accent to read First Lady Melania Trump's letter to Vladimir Putin asking the Russian leader to restore the 'melodic laughter' of children by ending his war against Ukraine. A photo of Melania and her letter floated on the screen during the mocking video that Schlossberg, 32, posted to Instagram Sunday. 'Dear President Putin,' his video begins, as did the first lady's letter. President Trump handed that note to Putin when the Russian president traveled to Alaska Friday to meet with Trump and members of his administration. The letter was posted on social media Saturday. In it, Melania appealed to Putin as a parent who should understand the toll a war has on children. 'Mr. Putin, you can singlehandedly (sic) restore their melodic laughter,' the first lady wrote of young people impacted since his February 2022 invasion of his neighbor's country. 'In protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone — you serve humanity itself.' After reading that letter, Schlossberg stays in character for a moment asking, 'What am I saying? This makes no sense.' He then removed the wig and in his own voice called the first lady's letter 'confusing' while claiming the war in Ukraine, which began with an unprovoked attack, is wholly uncomplicated. Schlossberg sometimes uses his Instagram to taunt the wives of political figures he disagrees with, including his uncle, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is married to actor Cheryl Hines. Hines told the Wall Street Journal last week that she doesn't 'understand what's going on with' Schlossberg and didn't want to give him unwarranted attention by speculating. _____

Carlos Santana plots low-key Bay Area return with guest spot at SFJazz Center

Carlos Santana is set to make a low-key return to the Bay Area next month for a pair of concerts at the San Francisco Jazz Center. The appearances come just a year after the legendary guitarist drew headlines for chastising his fans at Shoreline Amphitheatre as 'old people.' The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist is scheduled to join his wife and drummer, Cindy Blackman Santana, as a special guest during her two-night run at the Robert N. Miner Auditorium on Sept. 13 and 14, SFJazz announced Monday, Aug. 18. The shows will feature an all-star lineup including Ravi Coltrane on saxophone, Patrice Rushen on keyboards, Aurélien Budynek on guitar and Benny Rietveld on bass. Blackman Santana, a powerhouse drummer known for her 17-year tenure with Lenny Kravitz and deep roots in jazz, has led an eclectic career that spans post-bop to jazz-rock fusion. She currently anchors the Santana band and released her most recent solo album, 'Give the Drummer Some,' in 2020. Santana's upcoming appearance follows a controversial August 2024 show in Mountain View, where the 78-year-old musician chided the Shoreline audience for what he perceived as a lack of energy. 'Right here at home, it feels like we're at the home. The old people's house,' the Woodstock veteran, best known for hits 'Black Magic Woman' and 'Smooth,' told the crowd of 17,000. 'Go Santana banana f—ing crazy, man.' The performance, delivered mostly from a seated position due to chronic back issues, came amid a wave of health-related cancellations. Santana has postponed several dates over the past year, including Texas and Las Vegas shows, due to COVID-19 and a planned back procedure. The couple last performed together at SFJazz Center in 2023. 'There's nothing like it,' Blackman Santana told the Chronicle at the time. 'You can play in your practice room for a hundred years, but until you're really getting out there and playing in front of and with people experiencing all of life's roller-coaster ride and putting that all into the music, you're missing out on something special.'

President Zelensky Expertly Clapped Back At That Rude Reporter Who Asked Him About His Suit

Remember this? More specifically, remember when a reporter asked Volodymyr Zelensky why he didn't wear a suit, and it turned into a whole thing? The reporter, who, fun fact, is Marjorie Taylor Greene's boyfriend, asked: "Why don't you wear a suit... Do you own a suit? A lot of Americans have a problem with you not respecting the dignity of the office." C-SPAN/Twitter: @cspan Related: Zelensky replied, "I will wear a costume after this war will finish. Maybe something like yours, maybe something better, I don't know. We will see. Maybe something cheaper." People thought the whole thing was "deranged." Marco Rubio couldn't believe it either. Related: And now, Zelensky is back at the White House along with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. People were wondering if Zelensky would wear a suit after that whole thing in February, and today we found out. He showed up wearing this: Related: It literally was the first thing Donald Trump said when they met today: "I can't believe it. I love it," he said while pointing at his suit. MargoMartin47/Twitter: @MargoMartin47 And then that same reporter from February (MTG's BF) asked him about it in the Oval Office: atrupar/Twitter: @atrupar "First of all, President Zelesnky, you look fabulous in that suit. You look good," the reporter said. "I said the same thing," Trump said back. "I said the same thing. Isn't that nice? That's the same one that attacked you last time," Trump continued. Related: That's when the reporter says, "I apologize to you. You look wonderful." Zelensky had the last word on this one when he told the guy: "You're in the same suit. You see, I have changed. You have not." Then the whole room erupted in laughter. As this person said, "Even Trump had to admit this was a great comeback."
