Railway Recruitment Boards gives 9,000 jobs in first quarter, plans 50,000 for FY 2025-26
More than 9000 appointments have already been issued by RRBs in first quarter of this financial year.
Conducting CBTs for RRB exams is a huge exercise requiring lot of planning and co-ordination. RRBs have recently taken the initiative to allot exam centres closer to candidates' places of residence, with special preference given to female and PwBD candidates.
This requires enlisting more exam centers and garnering more human resources to conduct the exam in a fair and transparent manner.
With 12 notifications already issued for 1,08,324 vacancies since 2024 as per the annual calendar published by RRBs, another more than 50,000 appointments will be on offer in next financial year 2026-27.
To increase the fairness of exam, E-KYC based Aadhar authentication has been used to authenticate identity of candidates for the first time in such large-scale exams achieving more than 95 per cent success. Jammers are now being deployed 100 per cent across all exam centers of RRBs to eliminate scope of cheating through electronic devices.

Meanwhile, West Central Railway, Bhopal, has introduced a new method for verifying the identity of passengers using the mAadhaar mobile application, as per the latest guidelines issued by the Railway Board.
The move aims to curb unauthorised travel and prevent misuse of fake Aadhaar cards or tickets booked under someone else's name. To strengthen the process of identity verification with the help of technology, the mAadhaar app, developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), will serve as an effective tool for real-time identity authentication, the release added.
The app offers QR code-based identity verification, enabling the authenticity of a passenger's Aadhaar card to be verified quickly and reliably. The app will soon be made available on Handheld Terminals (HHT devices) as well, so that the misuse of reserved tickets and identity cards can be prevented and the real identity of passengers can be ensured. Mumbai woman harassed by loan sharks, morphed pics sent to kin; FIR filed
Mumbai: Despite repaying a loan that she had taken from an online app, a 25-year-old woman was harassed and her morphed nude images were sent to her relatives and friends. The Oshiwara Police have registered an FIR against unidentified accused persons. The woman lives in Jogeshwari with her family. She saw an advertisement on Instagram about an app that provides instant cash loans. She downloaded the app on her phone around 2.30 pm on July 20. She applied for a loan of Rs 2000 for six days and provided personal information including her bank account number on the app. She also uploaded a copy of her Aadhaar card. Shortly afterwards, she received a sum of Rs 1300 as loan disbursement in her bank account. After six days had passed, she received a text message asking for the loan to be repaid. She responded that she did not have liquidity at the moment and would need a couple of days. But the sender texted her again, demanding immediate repayment else threatening to circulate her morphed nude images on social media. CPI (M) wants Puducherry government to drop move to install prepaid smart meters
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday called for suspending move to introduce prepaid smart meters to bill electricity usage in the Union Territory. Speaking to reporters, CPI (M) secretary S. Ramachandran said the party had already conducted a signature campaign in protest against the Central government's plan for privatising the power sector in the Union Territory. Now, the territorial government has planned to introduce prepaid digital meters for an estimated 4.7 lakh consumers in the region and placed orders with a Mumbai-based company. Mr. Ramachandran said the proposal initiated would also require the consumer to foot about ₹9,000 towards installation cost. This was an unwarranted and unjustifiable burden on consumers, especially as this payment was on top of the security deposit levied at the time of issuing the connection, he said. Besides affecting the common man and farmers, the installation of prepaid meters would pave the way for privatisation of the power sector in the Union Territory, Mr. Ramachandran said. The CPI (M) would launch a major stir if the proposal was not withdrawn, he added.
