Anthony Smith retires with a crushing loss
Mingyang Zhang ended Anthony Smith's MMA career on a sour note in the co-main event on Saturday, defeating the former UFC light heavyweight title challenger by first-round TKO at 4:03. Zhang landed a flurry of punches and elbows to overwhelm the Nebraska native before the fight was called off.

'Let Others Face Him First': England Batter Reveals Plans To Tackle Jasprit Bumrah

Last Updated: In a stellar form since his comeback from injury, Jasprit Bumrah will be key for India during the five-Test series in England starting June 20. Gearing up for the marquee five-Test series against India, England's young wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith is hoping to learn from his teammates on how to keep Jasprit Bumrah at bay. Yet to counter the great bowler in international cricket, Smith said he'll be hoping his position in the batting order would ensure there isn't much Bumrah time for him in the middle. The youngster said he is keen to watch his teammates counter the Bumrah challenge with 'Bazball' before coming out to bat at his regular No.7 spot during the Test series, starting June 20. 'Hopefully, down at No. 7, I can watch other lads go and face him first. [He is] certainly a challenge there," Smith said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. Smith's words underlined the threat Bumrah poses to an England side that would be hoping to get past the ace quick and dominate his inexperienced fast-bowling partners through the five-match series. Bumrah has been in lethal form in Test cricket, taking 32 wickets across the five matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Wary of Bumrah's injuries and workload, the selectors appointed young batter Shubman Gill as Test captain for the start of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle, putting paid to the idea of a fast bowler leading the Indian team. Bumrah made a fantastic comeback after a four-month layoff during the just-concluded IPL 2025 for Mumbai Indians, taking 18 wickets in 12 innings. He was the most economical bowler of the season, conceding an unbelievable 6.67 runs per over in another high-scoring season. Bumrah helped revive MI's fortunes after they had won just one of their first five games in his absence. From a precarious spot on the table, MI's biggest match-winner pushed his team to fourth place in the final standings. The team's over-dependence on the 31-year-old ultimately came back to haunt them as his rare failure in Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings ended Mumbai's campaign. England Star Reveals Hilarious Plan To Tackle Jasprit Bumrah During India Tests: "Down At..."

Young wicketkeeper batter Jamie Smith feels opening for England during the three ODIs against the West Indies has provided him with "great practice" for his upcoming battle against India quicks in the forthcoming five Tests against India, scheduled to begin on June 20 at Headingley. Smith put up a swashbuckling 25-ball half-century, his first in the ODIs during England's seven-wicket triumph in the third and the final contest of the series on Tuesday. The 24-year-old's impressive exploits ended on 64 (28) after Gudakesh Motie cleaned him up by rattling the timber. "There's an opportunity there to go and play, and experience opening when the ball is still swinging and nipping around against quality bowlers. It's definitely great practice [for the India series]. It feels like we're close to it now, we're almost there. It's been great playing these three games, and obviously, the Zimbabwe Test led up to it," Smith said as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. Smith struck tenaciously at 180.35 across the three ODIs and registered 37, 0 and 64 as England whitewashed West Indies 3-0. He has been a regular face since last September, after bursting onto the international scene last summer in Test format as Jonny Bairstow's successor. The 24-year-old will have a short break before the five high-stakes Tests against India, considering he is not a part of England's squad for the three T20Is. "I feel good. Hopefully, the next 10 days or so can go well, prep-wise, and we can head into [the] India [series] quite fresh, which is amazing," he said. Smith is yet to encounter India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in any format. Despite the looming threat of Bumrah, Smith hopes to learn from watching his compatriots trying to contain him with 'Bazball'. "Hopefully, down at No. 7, I can watch other lads go and face him first. [He is] certainly a challenge there," Smith said. Listen to the latest songs, only on

"I know that Russia's ultimate quest is to recapture Europe" — Stephen A. Smith explains why he'd back Ukraine if elected

(Image Source - Getty Images) On ESPN's First Take, sports commentator Stephen A. Smith made a surprising move by discussing geopolitics, saying that if he were the President of the United States, he would stand with Ukraine against Russian aggression. He noted, 'I know that Russia's ultimate quest is to recapture Europe and I don't want that to happen. Therefore I would help out Ukraine'. Stephen A. Smith's political aspirations take center stage amid foreign policy debates In the recent First Take episode, co-host Molly Qerim asked Smith a playful question: would he choose to be the head coach of the New York Knicks or the President of the United States? Smith humorously opted for the presidency, mentioning he'd prefer not to work with Knicks owner James Dolan. However, the conversation took a serious turn when fellow analyst Chris "Mad Dog" Russo challenged Smith on whether he could handle international disputes, particularly the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Smith firmly asserted his dedication to backing Ukraine against Russian expansionism. Smith recently shared on his show what he thought about Vladimir Putin 's wish to recover Soviet-era territories. He showed that Russia's actions put Europe's stability in danger and that the U.S. must do something to meet them. Robert D. Smith brings to mind what many analysts around the world have been saying about Russia's plans. (Image Source - ESPN's Talk Show First Take) Smith's political commentary has sparked a variety of reactions from the public. On one hand, some folks praise him for diving into complex global matters, but on the other hand, there are those who question if he has the right credentials to discuss international diplomacy. Fans on X are commenting all sorts of things such as '😂😂😂 stay out of geo political topics.' said one user. While another said, 'Russia never controlled Europe so not sure where this perspective came from.' Regardless of the criticism, Smith's statements have certainly widened his public image, shifting from a sports analyst to a voice on global affairs.
