Thunder Valley Semi Races rolls into Mattawa
Prepare to feel the thunder. This weekend, the Thunder Valley Semi Races roll into the Anderson Event Park in Mattawa. Around 80 drivers will race, and throughout the weekend there will be live music and events for the entire family. The Thunder Valley Semi Races is a new event for the region, produced by Garry and Jennifer Anderson, who own and operate the Anderson Event Park. Truck Stop Canada reported that organizers of the Rodéo du Camion from Notre-Dame-du-Nord were thinking of relocating the event to Mattawa. However, that plan changed, and the Anderson's decided to create an independent truck racing festival. The Anderson's have laid a new track specifically for the event. What can one expect at the Thunder Valley Semi Races? On Friday, the vendors market runs all day, and you can check out some chrome as the Show 'n' Shine begins for its weekend run. The vendors market also runs throughout the weekend, including food vendors. On Friday, from 2 to 6 p.m., there is a test and tune for the rigs, and the truck inspections take place to prepare for the races, which start at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Organizers noted the race brackets will be made available at the time of the event, and that all race times are subject to weather, temperature, and the number of trucks per category. Both Saturday and Sunday are expected to see clear skis with highs around 26. While the big rigs race away the day, the night brings a host of bands on the main stage. On Friday Mattawa's own The Unknown take the stage at 7:30 p.m., followed by Toe Jam Tequila at 9 p.m. Headliners Dry County hit the stage at 10:30. Saturday night's lineup begins with The Wounded Sons at 7:30 p.m., Murphy Elmore at 9 p.m., and Ryan Jesse closes the show at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are available now. Weekend passes cost $90 for adults. Kids under 12 are free. Single day passes cost $50. There are also trailer camping passes for $125 and tent camping passes for $80. All prices are before taxed and fees. The event grounds are at 60 Neault Road, Mattawa. Visit for tickets. David Briggs is a Local Journalism Initiative reporter who works out of BayToday, a publication of Village Media. Itoje's Lions dreaming of peak performance in third Wallabies Test
Ringrose was initially selected to play in last weekend's second Test in Melbourne, which the Lions won to seal the series, but withdrew after experiencing concussion symptoms in training. Saturday's match was probably his last realistic chance of playing a Test for the Lions and assistant coach Andrew Goodman said the 30-year-old was devastated. 'Garry was playing some amazing rugby through this tour, and it's been a dream of his for so long to represent the Lions, and he's managed to do that,' the New Zealander said in Sydney. 'But he wanted to be a Test match Lion, so it's been devastating for him. Everyone knows Garry's a great lad and a great team man. The boys have all been disappointed for him.' Goodman said the other players who were unavailable for selection for the second Test because of injury — winger Mack Hansen (foot), lock Joe McCarthy (foot) and centre Sione Tuipulotu (hamstring) — all took part in training on Tuesday.
