If Raj B Shetty were to ever direct a star, it would be Shivarajkumar and here's why
There is, however, one actor that Raj is willing to make an exception to his rule and that is Kannada cinema's Century Star, Shivarajkumar. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Raj spoke about not ever wanting to direct a star, when asked if rumours of him collaborating with Dulquer Salmaan in such a capacity were true.
Raj B Shetty: I don't consider Shivarajkumar star; he is…
Raj, who has wrapped up a film called 45, in which he has worked with Shivarajkumar and Real Star Upendra, said that neither Kannada superstars ever once showed a 'star aura'. This, he adds, is also why if he were to ever direct a star it would be Shivarajkumar. 'I don't consider him a star; I think he is a man who is much more bigger than a star. So, if I ever direct a star, it would be Mr Shivarajkumar,' said Raj, during the promotions of his latest, Su From So, which is running to packed houses in Karnataka and has begun its box office journey in Kerala too.
45, is the directorial debut of Kannada music composer Arjun Janya, which he wrote during the pandemic, when he lost his brother. According to reports, the story revolves around Raj's character, and what happens upon his death, with Upendra seeking to capture his soul, and Shivarajkumar on a mission to save him. The story, according to the debutant filmmaker is steeped in Sanatana Dharma and is about the 45 days after a person's death.
The film was meant to be in theatres along with Coolie and War 2during the Independence Day weekend, but delays in VFX completion have forced the team to push it ahead. A new release date is yet to be announced. The makers are keen to have it in theatres later in the year and will officially announce the date shortly.
Su from So is currently playing in theatres with Kannada and Malayalam versions, with a Telugu-dubbed one set to release on August 8. There have been discussions for a Hindi-dubbed version or even a remake, but Raj has never really been a fan of remakes, as he and his team make films that are very rooted in the culture of the place (Mangaluru) that they all hail from.

Soil Samples, Victim's Blood: What Karnataka Told SC To Get Actor Darshan's Bail Cancelled
Last Updated: Darshan, actress Pavithra Gowda and several others, are accused of abducting and torturing 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who allegedly sent obscene messages to Pavithra The Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa's bail in the Renukaswamy murder case, setting aside a Karnataka High Court order. Darshan, actress Pavithra Gowda and several others, are accused of abducting and torturing 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who allegedly sent obscene messages to Pavithra. According to the police, the victim was held in a shed in Bengaluru for three days in June 2024 and tortured. His body was later recovered from a drain. The Karnataka government had submitted a written argument to the Supreme Court to cancel the bail of Darshan and other accused, highlighting several key points to prove the actor's alleged involvement and arguing that the high court's decision to grant bail was flawed. The state's case included forensic evidence, such as soil samples on the accused's footwear matching the crime scene and Renukaswamy's blood on their clothes. It also alleged direct involvement by Darshan and Pavithra Gowda and claimed that the high court's finding about the non-lethal nature of the weapons was incorrect. Furthermore, the submission pointed to Darshan's questionable conduct, such as attending a film premiere after claiming back pain for a court exemption. It also accused the high court of conducting an inappropriate 'mini-trial" by dismissing crucial evidence during the bail hearing. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. (Picture Courtesy: Facebook) The Kannada film fraternity is mourning the loss of director Murali Mohan , a filmmaker who left a lasting imprint on the industry through his collaborations with some of its biggest stars. He was 57. His death comes after a long and difficult battle with kidney-related ailments. The news was shared by the director Prakasharaj Mehu via social media. Taking to Facebook handle he wrote, "Murali Mohan was one of the driving forces behind the film Om! The reason I say this is because, during the story discussions at Vajreshwari Productions that I was part of, every time the topic of Om came up, Varadanna would fondly remember Murali and the contribution he made to that film!! He praised Murali's intelligence. It is a tragedy that his true talent was never fully utilised in the Kannada film industry!!!" Prakasharaj Mehu further wrote, "Seeing people like him makes one believe the saying that nothing else grows under a big banyan tree. Murali, who always spoke about God, religion, meditation, homa, and havan, appeared to me more like the head of a monastery than a film director. He had bought a plot in Uttarahalli, but it got caught up with the Rajakaluve (stormwater drain). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Redefine Your Future with a Top Online MBA SRM Online Enquire Now Undo He struggled a lot to save it.
