Cillian Murphy's Irish drama Small Things Like These has been added to Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.
Based on the book by Claire Keegan, the movie focuses on Ireland's Magdalene laundries - horrific asylums run by Roman Catholic institutions between the 18th and late 20th centuries.
Small Things Like These is told from the perspective of Murphy's devoted father and coal merchant Bill Furlong in 1985, as he discovers a harrowing secret at the local convent.
The film, which is directed by Tim Mielants and written by Enda Walsh, also stars Eileen Walsh, Michelle Fairley, Emily Watson, Clare Dunne and Helen Behan.
Small Things Like These received a positive reception from critics following its release in November, earning it a near-perfect score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

In Digital Spy's review of the film, we said: "While some may find it a touch slow, it's Small Things Like These's subtle, show-not-tell storytelling that delivers the drama's emotional blow".
Empire described Small Things Like These as "remarkably powerful", while The Hollywood Reporter said it is "subtle but resonant" and "intimate but emotionally expansive".
After the film's release, Murphy addressed the somewhat abrupt ending, saying that it retained the "genius of the book" by not revealing what happens after Bill makes a stand.

"People have very different points of view and it's amazing to think about it, because it just unspools and unspools and unspools. And you don't know what it could possibly be," he said.
"It could be a positive or it could have an optimistic outlook or a pessimistic. You know what I mean?
"It's very interesting, but it also represents, I think, sort of the beginning of the loosening of that grip that the church had at the time."
Small Things Like These is now available to stream on Prime Video.

A quirky vegetable sculpture contest features a squash Donald Trump and a papal 'cornclave'

LONDON (AP) — Vegetable likenesses of Donald Trump and Dolly Parton and a papal 'cornclave' went on display Saturday at the Lambeth Country Show, an urban take on a country fair held annually in London's Brockwell Park. The two-day show features sheep-shearing, livestock competitions, food, music and a vegetable sculpture contest that has attracted national renown for its quirky creativity. This year, several sculptures recreated the recent papal election, including one featuring cardinals made of maize, titled 'Cornclave.' Other entries included Irish rap trio Kneecap in potato form, 'Cauli Parton' in a movie-inspired tableau titled '9 to Chive,' a vegetable 'Mo Salad' likeness of Liverpool soccer star Mo Salah and animated icons Wallace and Gromit made from butternut squash. Trump also got the butternut squash treatment, while some entries referred to local politics. In Lambeth, as in other parts of London, local authorities have turned to holding large concerts and festivals in parks as a way to raise money, to the chagrin of some neighbors. 'Wolf Hall' actor Mark Rylance, one of a group of local residents opposed to big events in Brockwell Park, is represented as 'Mark Rylunch,' with an apple-carved head and satirical signs branding him a NIMBY (not in my backyard) campaigner. 'Every year, this is what we get so excited about, is the vegetable sculptures,' said Country Fair regular Maddy Luxon. 'It's just so unique and just so witty and we love the political ones.' 'And the puns,' said Marek Szandrowski, who was with her. 'The vegetable puns, definitely.'

Al Pacino Horror Movie ‘The Ritual' Splattered With 6% Critics Score

(Photo by Rich Polk/Variety via Getty Images) Oscar-winning actor Al Pacino is getting no love from Rotten Tomatoes critics for his new horror movie The Ritual. Pacino, of course, is the legendary star of such films as Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather Trilogy, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, Scarface and Heat. Recently, Pacino — who has been nominated for nine Oscars and won for Best Actor for the 1992 drama Scent of a Woman — has recently starred in such acclaimed films as Martin Scorese's The Irishman and Ridley Scott's House of Gucci. Pacino's The Ritual — which opened in theaters on Friday — has critics not raving, but ripping the celebrated actor's exorcism film. The official summary for the film reads, 'The Ritual is based on the true story of Emma Schmidt's 1928 exorcism — one of the most terrifying in U.S. history. 'After years of disturbing behavior, she underwent a week-long ordeal in an Iowa convent led by Father Theophilus Riesinger (Pacino). Witnesses reported levitation, unearthly voices, and supernatural strength. Sanctioned by the Church, her case inspired decades of horror — and now, The Ritual brings the original story to life.' The Ritual also stars Dan Stevens, Ashley Greene, Patrick Fabian and Patricia Heaton. As of Saturday morning, Rotten Tomatoes critics have collectively given The Ritual a lowly 6% 'rotten' score based on 48 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus for The Ritual reads, 'The Ritual purportedly presents a real occult occurrence, but the most blasphemous thing about it may be wasting Al Pacino's talents on a clichéd story with uninspired execution.' Dennis Harvey of Variety is among the top critics on RT who gives The Ritual a 'Rotten' review, writing, 'It just isn't much fun, even as it lacks the gravitas needed to make a more deeply unsetting impression, as William Friedkin famously managed with The Exorcist 52 years ago,' while Glenn Kenney of the New York Times simply notes, 'Just watch The Exorcist again.' In addition, the Guardian's Leslie Felperin's 'rotten' RT summary reads, '[Al] Pacino doesn't seem to be taking any of it seriously as he phones in an uncharacteristically low-volume performance.' Meagan Navarro of the horror film site Bloody Disgusting also fails to find any thrills and chills in her RT summary, writing, 'The 'based on a true story' horror movie fails to evoke any emotion as it sleepwalks through a tired recreation of an exorcism movie's third act, committing the ultimate cardinal sin in cinema: it's boring.' The only 'fresh' review from RT's top critics comes from Thelma Adams of AARP Movies for Grown-Ups, who writes, 'There is much faith testing and holy water slinging, but not a single jump scare. Still, [Al] Pacino is oddly compelling to watch.' The Ritual, starring Al Pacino, is now playing in in theaters.
