Star-studded "moreish" psychological drama gets new UK streaming home and you can watch it now
The star-studded psychological drama Little Fires Everywhere has found a new streaming home in the UK. The miniseries, which stars Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, was previously available to stream on Prime Video, but it left the streaming service earlier this month. Based on Celeste Ng's 2017 book of the same name, the 2020 series was recently added to Disney+ where you can watch all eight episodes now. Little Fires Everywhere follows the paths of two families whose lives become intertwined as secrets are unveiled and betrayals begin to take place. Per the logline, the series follows "a picture-perfect family and the mother and daughter who upend their lives". Related: Watch Reese Witherspoon cast young Elle Woods for Legally Blonde prequel in emotional video Joining Witherspoon and Washington on the cast are Dawson's Creek actor Joshua Jackson, Grey's Anatomy star Jesse Williams, The Princess and the Frog's Anika Noni Rose, and Lexi Underwood. The miniseries was popular among critics, receiving a score of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes from 80 reviews. The Guardian described Little Fires Everywhere as "moreish, searing, excellent. What it is not is nuanced", while The Sydney Morning Herald said this: "The cast here is fantastic (the kids are unbelievably good) and it's packed with clever detail." The New York Times wrote: "It's a busy and reasonably intriguing story if you skate over its less convincing twists. And it benefits from excellent work by Washington and Underwood." Related: How to Train Your Dragon gets new UK streaming home ahead of the remake's release "Shenanigans aside, what makes Little Fires Everywhere perfect for our current, stranger-than-fiction moment is the ordinariness of the lives it presents," penned Vogue. The Age praised Witherspoon's lead performance, writing: "This is, in fact, one of the best performances of Witherspoon's career. It's doubtful there's a more self-aware actress in Hollywood, or one who is better at challenging our expectations even as she is meeting them." "More than Little Fires Everywhere's soapy and somewhat predictable twists and turns, it is the interplay between its two leads that generates the most worthwhile heat," wrote The New Republic. Emmerdale scraps early ITVX episode - here's why fans can't stream early on Wednesday
Emmerdale has scrapped the early ITVX release for Wednesday's (28 May) episode, with fans excited for the developments. The next instalment of the ITV soap will see Aaron Dingle and John Sugden tie the knot after weeks of anticipation, though one can expect it won't go completely swimmingly given the nature of soap storytelling. In a scheduling shake-up, the broadcaster confirmed via their social media channels that the instalment won't be uploaded to streaming service ITVX at 7am like most episodes, with viewers instead having to wait until the episode airs at 7.30pm on ITV1. "FYI: Emmerdale will not be available to stream tomorrow (Wed 28th) at 7am on ITVX," read the caption on the Instagram post. "So we'll see you all at 7.30pm on ITV1 instead, yeah? You bring the biscuits and we'll make the brews (we'll try to not spill any tea 👀)🫖" The post, which included a photo of Aaron and John in their wedding attire, received a comment from Danny Miller, with the actor - who debuted as Aaron in 2008 - jokingly writing: "What?!!!!!!!!!!" Related: "@danny_b_miller so annoying x" wrote one fan in response, with another adding: "@danny_b_miller that's my reaction like what the heck?????😂" Several other fans also joked with the actor, calling him a "tease". "It must be exciting if we have to wait," remarked one fan on the post, with another commenting: "Ooh exciting tea 🫖 incoming." "Run for your life Aaron! (literally lol)" quipped one fan as they referenced John's murky character, while another said they were "excited" for the episode. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Emmerdale (@emmerdale) Related: While fans will have to wait a few hours longer for the instalment, we can be sure that it will be a dramatic 30 minutes, with John - whose secrets have gradually been unveiled over the past few weeks - having to put on a strong façade under increasing pressure. While specific details of the episode remain under wraps, Miller did tease aspects of the instalment during an appearance on Loose Women, sharing: "What I will say is there are some surprises… You'll just have to wait and see." Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX. Read more Emmerdale spoilers on our dedicated homepage Digital Spy's first print magazine is here! Pierce Brosnan addresses criticism of his "terrible" accent in new gangster crime drama
Pierce Brosnan has addressed the criticism of his Irish accent in Paramount+ crime drama MobLand. The James Bond actor stars alongside Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren in the new series as crime family patriarch Conrad Harrigan, who finds himself embroiled in a war against a rival gangster clan. Despite the actor being born and raised in Ireland for over a decade, viewers haven't been convinced by his Irish accent in the series, with many left baffled as they described it as "terrible" and "atrocious" after the first episode's release in March. Addressing the comments during a new interview with RadioTimes (via MetroOnline), Brosnan said: "My own accent is very soft, Conrad's accent is a million miles away from [mine]." The star explained that he went to a dialect coach and told them he needed a Kerry accent, adding: "So he [the coach] gave me the name of a man and I googled the guy and that was it. It was a Kerry accent and so, I just gave it full tilt." Related: Best streaming services Brosnan also discussed his accent during a recent appearance on Today FM, saying he raised his concerns with MobLand's director, Guy Ritchie, before filming the series last year. "Last summer I spoke to Guy for the first time about it and having read the five episodes he said not to worry about it," recalled Brosnan. "[He said], 'We'll just do it 15 minutes on the day, clear your mind, we'll sort it out, don't worry about it'. "Of course, I put the phone down and did worry about it! Five weeks later I was on the set with Tom Hardy and Guy, first day, important dialogue, important information and he just said, 'more Irish, more Irish'." Related: Brosnan went on to say that his Irish accent has "dissipated into the midst of time", adding: "It's somewhat Californian and everything. So, I asked myself, 'What kind of accent would he have?' It was Kerry." The actor was born in Drogheda, County Louth, before moving to Navan in County Meath, where he spent most of his childhood. His family later moved to Scotland, before relocating again to London. MobLand, which will air its final episode this Sunday (1 June), also stars House of the Dragon's Paddy Considine, After Life's Mandeep Dhillon, Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt and Top Boy's Jasmine Jobson. How to Train Your Dragon gets new UK streaming home ahead of the remake's release
How to Train Your Dragon has found a new UK streaming home ahead of the live-action remake's release. The 2010 animated DreamWorks classic aired on ITV1 yesterday, and is now available to stream on ITVX. That means UK viewers can watch the film for free. The free tier does have ads, but you can pay for ITVX Premium at £5.99 a month/£59.99 a year. The film follows an awkward teenage viking boy named Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) who decides not to follow in his clan's footsteps by killing a dragon that he meets. Instead, he decides to befriend the creature, calling it Toothless. Adapted from Cressida Cowell's 2003 book of the same name, the upcoming live-action remake will follow the same plot, and has even brought back Gerard Butler as Hiccup's dad, Stoick the Vast. Related: UK film release dates The films also share the same director, Dean DeBlois, who stated that he doesn't understand the criticism about why they're making a live-action version. "It's an interesting one for me, because I've firmly been on the side of not just adapting those films as a trend," he said. Related: "I love animation, and I love those films that come out of the studios, but I've never been for remaking movies in a new medium without any real purpose to it. "But when Universal talked about this project and seeing it through as a live-action film, it, to me, kind of pinged something in me regarding the making of the first movie that was always an ambition for Chris Sanders and I. Which is to lean into a live-action sensibility." The How To Train Your Dragon live-action remake is released in cinemas on 9 June. The animated version can be streamed on ITVX now.
